  1. "Title Town"...Really! Are you kidding me? I was rooting for Sunbright til I seen this post. Wait til Sunbright beats a somebody and then brag if you need too. I commend Coach Stephens for scheduling how he has to get some wins but everyone knows that Sunbright only plays 4 real teams. North Greene ranks #336 in the state among 337 teams, Whitwell is #323, Jellico is #332, Red Boiling Springs is #322, Kings Academy is #330, and Oakdale is #335. That's 6 of the worst 15 teams in the state. It's not random scheduling either. Sunbright is traveling 1.5-3 hours to play most of these teams except Oakdale. So win some titles before you declare Sunbright title town.
  2. Last year, 55-13 against Goodpasture in the championship. I'd say that's not the difference in a fumble. That's total domination. Alcoa lost by 3 points to the best team in the state per USA Today and a team that has 6 state championships in 8 years in 4A and 9 overall. As far as not playing anybody, Alcoa plays in a region that is widely regarded as one of the toughest regions year to year and they McCallie (just beat Riverdale) and Maryville. Alcoa has 7 state championships to Milan's 4. Only Maryville and Brentwood have more championship. I'd say the numbers says it all.
  3. I'm not a Oneida fan at all, but to say they'll be playing for 4th is a big understatement. I'd say Coalfield will have a hard time with them Friday. I think it'll be tough for Sunbright to get in and they'll probably have to go through Harriman or Midway to get that 4th spot. I'd like to see them get in because they've worked hard to build that program up these past 2 years.
  4. It's pretty crazy to sit on here and speculate about some team being bad or good. I think most people thought Petros Joyner (girls) wasn't going to be very good but they were the strongest team in Area II. The Wartburg boys surprised me a lot this year. They were a lot better this year than I thought they would be. I think Coach Jones done a great job with them. They bought into his system and played well. With the kids at this age they can grow so much between seasons that someone who could barely start on JV can be a very good contributor or a starter on varsity the next year. If Coach Jones can continue to get his boys to buy into his system and get ALL of them to play team ball, the sky is the limit for this team next year. Blakney and AJ was a big loss but most teams lose 4 or 5 starters each year and they're only losing 2. On the Wartburg girls side it will be a toss up. If some girls grow over the off season and work hard they could be very good. It's true they will probably be small but they are talented and fast. Remember championship are won in the off-season.
  5. Who won the TMSAA East Sectional in the girls? How did the final four games go? Thanks
  6. If the coach does not want an official they can scratch him/her from doing their games if they give enough advance notice.
  7. I think if Huntsville does not have a player who could play more than 3 or 4 minutes for Oneida, that says a lot for them as a team and unfortunately for Oneida this is a team sport. I think it's true that Individually Oneida is far more talented than most teams in this district but at Caton's Chapel they will face some teams that are talented individually and as a team. I have heard that Harriman is very good. Also the only thing regular season victories gets you is a better seed in the district tournament. This victory means more for Huntsville than those other 2 did combined no matter what the score. I do believe this was a good thing for Oneida though. This should help them come together and play better as a team. They must remember that gotta play as a team because I remember a very talented Oliver Springs team last year that didn't go far at all up there. Good luck to both teams and represent Area 2 well.
  8. They got stopped tonight...Congratulations Huntsville. I think it was 33-32 with big #30 hitting a foul shot with 4 seconds left.
  9. There should be some basic guidelines for tournament seeding. Area 2's seedings were messed up this year bad and were meant to be that way by the hosting coach. He's probably in his last year coaching at that school because his daughter is a 8th grader and he doesn't care if he makes people mad. He moved the meetings around until not everybody could attend. They should at least have to have the tourney stuff decided before the first game of the year and send it in to the TMSAA for approval. The meetings to decide these tourneys should be on Saturday and not moved on the day of the meeting like it was this year. All teams should be required to attend. They should have plenty of notice of the meeting (like 1 month).
  10. I think Fountain is #22 and Elsea is #20. I believe it's got to be between Fountain and Scarbrough from Coalfield as the most dominating player in the district. Fountain does a lot of things very well all the time. When Scarbrough shows up she is unstoppable inside and out. She shows up a lot. Anyway on the seedings, the reason only five coaches voted was because they (PJ's coach) kept moving the meeting around til nobody showed up. He moved the meeting from 12 to 10 the day of the meeting. I do believe at this point PJ's girls are the best team in the district but he ensured that they had a cupcake run to the championship. It's pretty obvious that somethings been done wrong when the whole gym is rooting against them (other than PJ fans). Last year there were 4 #1 seeds at Caton's Chapel and 2 got put on one side and 2 on the other. There four districts for the East Tennessee Sectional. The #1 seed from Area 1 got put in the same bracket as the #1 from Area 3. The #1 seed from Area 2 (Oneida) got put in the same bracket as the #1 seed from Area 4 (Oliver Springs). So that was not unfair. What's wrong is making the rules up as you go. They need to set the rules and brackets up at the first of the year and follow those for 3 years. Next year Winfield will be able to have all home games if they want because everyone will be wanting to play them to soften their schedule.
  11. Had the 2 points been given like it should have been it would have been real interesting at the end because it make it one possession ball game with Wartburg having the opportunity to win with a 3. I think Wartburg is more talented right now but I really like Pickett Co.'s style of play and discipline. They are also very quick getting down the floor and it looked like that surprised Wartburg. I'm sure they don't run into that very often. Seemed like Wartburg had a very bad night from 3 point land as well. Good luck to Pickett Co. and hopefully both teams will go far in the tournament.
  12. Pickett Co. wins in a close one. This was a great game and I was a little confused as to what the scoring issue was at the end but nonetheless Wartburg loses a heartbreaker and got outplayed. I believe Wartburg has the talent to get the job done but just need to work on the little things. Pickett Co. missed very few free throws, didn't turn the ball over a lot, and rebounded pretty well. I think the score was like 69-64? Hopefully the dawgs learn from this and get better. I liked the hustle from the Pickett Co. team. Number #10 is a very solid ball player.
  13. Comparing scores against Sunbright isn't really a true sign of how good Wartburg is. I didn't watch or listen to that game but I did listen to most of the Oneida game and Wartburg was stomping Oneida and started substituting early which brought the score closer. I realize that Pickett Co. has tradition but this is the first time in a while that Wartburg has had a ton to be excited about in Men's basketball so some people are running the laps with their mouth that their butts may or may not be able to catch because of this new excitement. Come on people, act like you've been there before even if you haven't. I hope some of the the cockiness doesn't hurt them over the course of the year and make them come up a little short of their ability. Coach Layne is doing a great job. I'll take Wartburg by 3.
  14. When is the middle school board be opened up? I will become a plus member if it's opened each year at the start of the season. I don't want to become one if not because nobody post any info. if it's only plus members. Thanks
