  1. I concur in a big-time way. I'm extremely pleased with this win (against a previously 2-0 team) by a Stratford team many on this board left for dead after the Tennesseean article (about Stratford starting preseason camp with just 16 players), and after Stratford had to line up against heavyweights (Hunters Lane, Hillsboro, David Lipscomb) in their first 3 games. Stratford's not a great team this year (they're offensively very explosive, but mediocre to weak on defense), but they're a country mile better than last year's Stratford team. Stratford has a legitimate chance to win as much as they lose this year, and they're going to put up points against ANYBODY.
  2. BoSki, I'll bet I know some guys who played with you at Maplewood; Phellepe Hall, Anthony Hardy, Nathaniel Claybrooks-----------------
  3. Sounds like Hunters Lane is better than most folks expected. Still undefeated in '08.
  4. I think MBA wins this one, but it's going to be close. Definitely worth the price of admission and then some.
  5. Excellent news. Nice to see politicians occasionally display some good sense.
  6. Was at the game, and the game went pretty similar to what I expected. Stratford has a good QB and serious playmakers at RB and WR; I expected them to generate a lot of offense, and they did (387 offensive yards, 3 scores), but not enough to beat what is, IMO, Metro's "Football Program Of The Decade" in Hillsboro. I was pleasantly surprised that Stratford drew a considerably stronger crowd of supporters for this game than I've seen at some Stratford games in the last couple of years. On the other hand, there were less than 100 Hillsboro fans in the visitors section, which is a disappointment considering Hillsboro's record of success over the last decade.
  7. Stratford has Metro's best aerial attack, so they're going to score a lot of points; for that reason alone, they'll be better than last year's 1-9 team; Stratford still has yet to prove they can inconvenience other teams' offenses when they don't have the football though, so I'm not ready to "crown" them just yet. On your McGavock prediction, I have a feeling they have as talented a 5A team as anyone in Tennessee; but I've seen them have a similar team before and manage to lose a game or 2 against teams that had no business beating them. Their State chances revolve around whether their focus and consistency is equal to their talent.
  8. Goodpasture may be a 2A team, but they're a 2A team that beat 5A Ravenwood in Week 0; the same 5A Ravenwood team that beat Brentwood Academy in Week 1.
  9. Usually, the Nashville Storm and McGavock use the same practice facility (at different times of day) during the late summer, so I get occasional chances to see McGavock on the practice field. This is probably a better McGavock team than the "05 team (8-2 in the regular season), and the Raiders will be LIGHT YEARS better than the last 2 McGavock teams. Plus they're now TV stars (LOL); if you've watched the Vince Young "Electrify" commercial for Reebok/Dick's Sporting Goods, that's the McGavock Raiders impersonating VYs high school team.
  10. GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!! REPRESENT!!!!!!!!
  11. McGavock by 14; no knock on Hendersonville, but I think McGavock may be Middle Tennessee's surprise team this year.
  12. Anyone have the finals on either of these games?????
  13. I agree with you that Hillsboro wins, but not like that (although HB may very well score 50). Stratford has a couple of WRs and a QB who could play for anybody, so I think they're going to put some points on the board; just not as many as the Burros will score.
  14. The scoreboard's showing Maplewood 40- Pearl-Cohn 0. A lot of you were picking a Maplewood win------- BUT NOT LIKE THAT. What happened?
  15. If that 42-21 score over Goodpasture that I just saw is accurate, sounds like Coach Broome's team is loaded. Was anyone here at that game???
  16. Congratulations to Ravenwood--------- that's LARGE.

  18. Looks like all those newcomers for the "Top Shelf" are putting up a better fight than anticipated.
  19. I think Lavergne will probably get their first win of 2008 tonight.
  20. Think Hillsboro bounces back in this one.
  21. A BUNCH of things have caused the spike in gas prices (that's one of them, some of the others are weak dollar caused by deficit spending, excessively gas-guzzling vehicles). We need to both produce more and consume less. We've let energy policy be a partisan political football, and both parties have fumbled the ball. We've known this day was coming for 30+ years, and have done little to prevent it.
  22. Hey, don't change the username-------- I LOVE a great band (think it comes from coming from a HS that didn't HAVE a band).
  23. I just went to that ONB distribution menu and plugged in my zip code. There were no Krogers on the list, but Kroger DID carry the OTB's in their racks last year. Wonder what happened with that (and wonder if OTB is getting as much readership now, since, I think, most people got used to looking for it at Kroger).
  24. Both Pearl-Cohn and Maplewood opened in Week 0 with wins over Shelby County teams; now, this week, they face off against each other. Who wins this one and by how much???
  25. I'd have to think that a Father Ryan victory over either BA or MBA would be an upset of major proportions.
