  1. Coffee Co. = Micah Williams
  2. Any word on who is the early favorites? I would think that Bruce Slatten would be since he lives in Sparta and is a very good coach. Any others?
  3. So you are saying that this is a good fit for Smyrna or any of the other Murfreesboro schools... LOL! WOW!
  4. Any word on the hires at Rhea Co., Grundy Co., etc...?
  5. I dont know that he is not a quality person. I would think that he is a quality person because they allowed him to keep his teaching spot at Coffee Co. after they removed him from the basketball program. Who knows about his coaching for sure, the surface looks bleak, but it wasnt like he had a ton of talent to work with at Coffee Co, so who knows for sure.
  6. Rhea Co. and Grundy Co too? Any word on any of these spots?
  7. Congrats to Micah Williams! Wish him the very best in that program. I hope that they will allow him to do what he needs to to turn that program around.
  8. I am not sure about the football coach. I have never heard anything on him. If there was something, if his hiring doesnt work out, Skipper cant be blamed for all of that. There was a very large committee that was comprised of a lot of the local leaders there in Manchester that had a hand in that decision. That is not squarely on Skippers shoulders. The others from what I have heard has been Skippers doings.
  9. Well, it would appear so. They fired him from coaching in the middle of the year. Now its not just that hire that people are not happy about. Look at the baseball coach that he hired last summer and had to fire back in what Jan. or Feb. because of his "relationship" with a 15 year old student. Skipper has not brought in either quality coaches or people. He cant seem to find someone that is both. Its either one or the other it seems.
  10. Its about time. Hope that Skipper doesnt screw this one up, or he might be the next one looking for a new job!
  11. So who got it? Heard that they are going to give it to Micah Williams, but no word for sure. Any news?
  12. I have always heard principal, but it depends on the situation and the state of the program and history of it as well. Mostly principal though.
  13. Probably not as much pressure there as there was at Blackman. It may be a more enjoyable situation for him.
  14. Nope, its all in who you know or where you are looking. As a young coach with no experience, I would think that it would be easier to get hired in a situation that may not be as popular or highly sought after as others. Start there and build your way up, prove yourself and then start moving back up into spots that you really want. Thats what I have seen from friends that got into that business. The ones that were willing to take a spot that might not have been as appealing moved up quicker because people could see them work and get something going where there hadnt been anything. The ones that didnt want to go that route are or did sit as assistants for a while and are still hoping that the perfect spot comes open.
  15. the Macon Co., Grundy Co., Rhea Co., or any other openings? we know about Riverdale and Symrna, what about the others?
  16. Maybe, but everyone knows that basketball is the little kid brother to football and baseball over there. Who ever they get will need to get started talking and building up the elementary and middle school programs and then they will start seeing a change in the high school. I would think that they would also need to walk the halls and find solid able bodied kids that would be interested in being part of a solution and ground work to build a solid program on.
  17. Whats the latest on this spot? Been kinda quiet!
  18. It and the Tullahoma boys job probably fall into the same category. A solid job that you could make a living doing, but you better not have too high of expectations or you will be disappointed. The difference is that Tullahoma has more athletes, just not sure why they dont play basketball.
  19. What I am saying is that at Coffee Co. a really good year is 15-18 wins. A really good coach could get to that point, maybe, but any thing more than that is almost unreasonable with the lack of athletic talent that they have there. Good kids, mostly hard working kids, but not athletic. Then when you factor in the parent thing, if you have to please them to keep your job, now you are looking at 10-12 wins being a really good year. I havent really heard of anyone leaving there and going elsewhere and being successful. Not that it is a grave yard, but it sure doesnt lead into greater things.
  20. Dont really know how that all went down, but I would say that the community definitely wanted him to be a part of it. I mean after all, he is about the only one that I can remember that left Coffee Co and went and did something athletically in a long time. Thats why the folks there wanted him to be involved. Now is it a bad move to take someone like that, in this case I think it bit him in the butt, but most of the time its not a terrible decision.
  21. Agreed and at Coffee Co, so you will have support as long as you dont try and make those kids any better and stroke the egos of the parents but the talent is NO where to be found.
