    Best Duo in State

LOL, that's funny, you may also have to watch out for those JV players then too!!!
  2. Ewww, I always though Belmonts rims were tight and hated them, it's also REALLY hott in there.
  3. Yeah, Bartlett is going to a classic that will have Travis Outlaw or Al Jefferson in it...i'm not sure..both or at least Jefferson, who Coach Smith said was Elton Brand. And then they are going to a BIG tourney in Orlando called the Island of the Sun or something like that...Opperman, correct me if I'm wrong.
  4. I've heard that Allen's stock has REALLY dropped from this summer...to the point that he might drop out of the top 50 even!!!! Rumor here in Memphis is that Calipari doesn't even want him anymore. 2 years ago Allen was a lock for the U of M's targets, now Cal is more interested in a guard from Florida somewhere.
  5. Dee Burchett-Hamilton Tim Barr- BTW Kinley Sellers-Cordova

    for Cobra90

someone's got to clean that mess up!
  7. I know this thread is about the best teams ever, and teams that won the State, BUT.....the 97' Bartlett team HAS to be one of the best ever. 35-2, lost 2 games by a combined 4 points that year, one at the buzzer and one to Cleveland. They were nationally ranked as high as #17. Won all 35 games by double digits. Defense was the best defense i've ever seen. Averaged around 80ppg while only giving up like 47.
  8. The Melrose team that had Finch and Ronnie Robinson was a awesome team, won the city championship over Johnnie Newman and the Overton Rebels. Overton were the Rebels back then? They are the Wildcats now....I think.
  9. What Memphis team has a 19U team and do you know who #25 is? It may be Dee Burchett from Hamilton.
  10. Terrance Woods went to Treadwell.

    RUSELL WARE

Wow, do you know what he was in trouble for? This is the guy that sent the 97' Bartlett (19th in the nation at the time) packing. They did a good job on Yarbrough and Baker, but this guy killed them.
  12. He goes to University of Colorado and is doing well there. [Edited by TJ on 8-3-02 11:16P]

    This bugs me....

Having great shooters on the floor or being one just does so much more for the team than scoring points on the shots he makes. Having shooters on the floor really spreads the floor to give room for other players to opperate off the dribble or in the post. The reason I was successful was b/c I had guys who were great off the dribble on my team and had another great shooter on the floor and the reason Jonathan and Adrian were so successful is b/c I drew the defense and gave Jonathan more room to opperate. It all works hand in hand. [Edited by TJ on 8/3/02 9:47P]

    This bugs me....

This thread wasn't meant to start people's view on Justin Flatt. I just used his name b/c he's similar type player as I am and gets similar criticism, and all his name has to do with the thread is that I really started to consider what people think are good players when someone made that comment about him. This thread is about how being a "shooter" doesn't make you a great player now-a-days.
  15. Bradshaw got the big time looks b/c Terry Tippett at White Station has pull.
  16. LOL, if Bartlett can guard Sommerset, lol, that's funny. Sommerset is the biggest waste of a 6'8" frame. The player that everyone in district 14-AAA from Bolton that everyone has to worry about is Fred Peete, if he gets eligible. This kid is highly underrated. Anyway, the first time that Bartlett and Bolton played at Bartlett last year, Sommerset was Bartlett's best player. He got his head out of the game by getting into personal affairs with players and fans. This led to turn over after turnover, missed layup after missed layup, while Ben Frederick went 10-11 from the field on him for 28 points.
  17. I also agree with Opperman. Bartlett will be very talented. Now if they're actually good, that may be a different ? They have a 6'10" that can score in the post if he wants to. A banger on the glass and can score layups and is a true athlete. A good guard who can guard and can guard and will hopefully knock down open looks. And they have one of the more underrated players in the city in Jaycean Herring who is a true, Scooter McFagdon/Jeremy Hunt slasher. The only thing they lack is that true sharpshooter that spreads the defense and significant depth. [Edited by TJ on 8/3/02 2:45A]
  18. I was recentely talking to a kid that knows Justin Flatt, and I commented on how good I thought he was. His response was that he didn't he was THAT good. "He can shoot, but he's not all that" He can shoot? I mean, is shooting not a HUGE part of the game anymore? I hear this statement all the time and i'm sure it's been said about me before also. I can appreciate Justin Flatts game b/c it's what I model myself like as a basketball player. Everyone thinks that you have a have a wicked crossover, baseline dunk, or a great game off the dribble to be recognized as a good basketball player no-a-days. I don't think people realize how hard it is to be a shooter now. I don't know alot of people who play well without the ball, can read a screen, and still get off a shot with the defense focused on them and sticking to them like glue. I can respect a guy who gets his points by shooting the longest shots on the court, but now people just say he can shoot but that he's not that good. Does anyone think anything about this, please comment.
  19. Ego, having played for YOMCA, I think I'm okay at commenting at this. YOMCA ONLY gets 10,000 per year from NIKE, Bobby Dodd provides the rest b/c it is HIS program basically. Last I heard, the bigger NIKE Summer teams, like So. Cal All-Stars for example, got upwards of 100-120,000 from NIKE for their summer teams. YOMCA is all political as you can see. The coaching isn't great as that being the reason why they never really do well on a national level. When I was there, 15's and 16's and i'm 19 now, they were just talking about taking the kids to Dean Lotz to work out. Never once did this ever actually happen. Now if they're doing that now, great, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's just another one of those YOMCA rumors.

    Bob Knight

Most definentely!!!! I have read his book and think he's an outstanding coach and disciplinarian.
  21. Don't think WS lost a game.
  22. I know I was very high on Derrick Byars, a University of Virginia signee out of Ridgeway HS in Memphis, but I just returned from Ole Miss where I had the opportunity to meet and play against Trey Pearson. I respect the opinion of my old HS coach, who said Pearson was hands down better than Byars, but I had to see it for myself. And he was right. Pearson is so smooth and so talented. His handles are unreal and his jump shot, although he doesn't elevate much on it, is quick and great. Word from the team is that he WILL, indeed, redshirt to get more weight b/c he is fragile. This kid is unreal talented. It looked at times, as if he was just playing with his defender, just waiting to decide on WHEN to be by him. Man, if we all only had THAT problem on the court He has a bright future ahead of him in the SEC. He could come off as cocky to some, but he holds that flair of himself that will help him suceed in the SEC, not to mention being hilarious. [Edited by TJ on 7/31/02 9:53P]
  23. Ego, I wouldn't exactly call the Blue Chip camp in KY a pretegious camp. I've been there and it was a terrible run camp.
