  1. Westview will have to play perfect & if they can do that, they will win.....Northside though, based on the way they played this weekend, is my pick for the championship....tough team when it matters....I would bet west tn has a AA champion this year!!!
  2. I heard earlier in the year that, regardless of how well the girls did, he would not be back..with their success, that talk ceased...I agree that he's a good coach & if they lose him, someone else would take him in a heartbeat with his record....
  3. Congrads to the Lady Rebels for a great season...their success built and kept that program's tradition intact.....start back shortly working hard to get better for next year cause you should be the favorites....my only regret is now the rumors about Suiter may start back......
  4. The refs let them play at Dyersburg too...sorta thought a kid or two might get hurt before the game concluded but for the most part, they let them go at both ends.....Dyersburg's bigs got knocked & pushed around alot & that will have to be addressed or JNS will take full advantage of it... Coffman was working the refs pretty good the entire game & that seemed to help even out the calls a bit....whoever refs the Dburg/JNS game will sure have their hands full!!!
  5. Dburg vs. JNS will be a classic..both teams know each other very well over the years in the same district when they were AAA... The lady trojans will have to play much better than they did against Covington & if they do, and don't make silly turnovers, they'll win by 5 or better.... As for the Milan vs. Westview, my pick there is Milan by 10 or better IF Milan plays defense.....too much talent on that Milan squad but if they're looking ahead at the championship game, the View will upset them so watch out!!! Both games will be classics that die hard girls basketball fans will want to watch!!!
  6. I got my info. from my own eyes but talked with some NS Fans at that particular game and gave him the benefit of doubt thinking that maybe he was focused on a player or two that may have been injured rather than what his actions appeared to be...he's got a tough job, no doubt but my point being that sometimes emotions cloud one's judgement/actions & misunderstandings can occur in the heat of battle.......
  7. Funny you said that...I remember around two years ago when Dyersburg won, some Northside players, NOT all, including the COACH, refused to shake hands with Dyersburg after the game & some fans from Northside even went onto the floor to bad mouth some of the players & coaches & had to be restrained by local police...my assumption is that the emotion just takes over & some don't think too clearly when such happens & should not be a poor reflection of the program...great game though by both sides!!
  8. This should be the best regional games in the state....sad that one "Miss AA Basketball finalist" won't be at the "boro"..pretty much a guess which one..both OC & JNS bring different strengths to the table along with some weaknesses..guess whichever one is on their "A" game pulls it out..as for the Ware/Milan matchup, Milan had better pull themselves from their slump or it will be one & done...Westview & Dyersburg should advance IF they play their game...the semi round should be a classic as well....can't wait!!! Good luck to all 13AA teams & do the district proud!!!
  9. ***** I would not go there if I was an OC fan...remember, Milan & Westview beat Dyersburg pretty good during the regular season just like OC did & what happened to them?? I don't see any regular season loss being on their minds right now..too focused on the here & now, not the past....I agree with NSHD in that they appear to be the hotest team in the state at the right time..whether or not they can continue that will play out in the coming weeks....Great tournament though by all the teams!!
  10. First congrads to both Dyersburg & Westview...all 4 teams played like champions. Second, I have a question for anyone who's watched OC more than me...why in that first quarter when they realized they were not hitting & Westview was, did they not settle down, work the ball around or run an offensive set that would get them either a layup or a close, easy basket thus getting them into some sort of offensive flow & cooling Westview's heels a bit by making them work on defense?? Not second guessing the coach cause it's his program and their record speaks for itself but I am always trying to obtain more basketball knowledge....any feedback appreciated
  11. Based strictly on the way all three teams played their first round, I would pick Dyersburg & Westview for the championship Saturday with Milan coming in 3rd and OC fourth....for some reason, OC hates playing at the "View" and Milan has been playing down the last couple of games......again, that's assuming Dyersburg can play as well or better than they did against GC and "home court advantage" helps Westview... Should be a couple of great games!!!
  12. I will admit I've been on the Lady Trojans alot this year but last nite's game was different..still too many turnovers (25) to beat a really good team but they looked good. If they can reduce turnovers & play with that same passion, desire every time they take the court, maybe the giant finally awoke!!!
  13. **** My personal opinion is that Milan will win & the others are just playing for second anyway....too much talent for the others to overcome...coarse in this district, anything can happen...for proof, look at DC's win Tuesday nite!!! Should be a great tournament & hope all teams play with pride & passion...guess we'll see!!!
  14. Why does Dyersburg still warrant such high opinions? Their big girl is foul prone, their other bigs can't hit lay ups and the guards are the weakest in the district..they can't break a press, throw the ball to the post nor defend...consequently a 6-6 district mark....until they beat a really good team, throw the roses to a team more deserving like Obion or the View....give me a break...
  15. I would have dropped Dyersburg out completely...they have not won a game yet against the top teams in 13AA...Gibson County has...seems like everyone in 13AA is playing better but Dyersburg yet they remain top 10?? I don't think so...
  16. To be honest, I was there for the boy's game but was very impressed with the heart the Dyer County girls showed. With most of their "main" team, out, McAlister stepped up big time & the team showed true heart in their effort and brought alot of intensity to the floor...plus impressive game plan by their coach...hang in there...good things for the program can't be far off......
  17. ***** You'd better see Dyersburg play first then if you make that bet, prepare to move!!!
  18. I have watched Dyersburg several times since Christmas...they are just playing out the season. The girls have lost it & early goals gone...When maturity sets in on them in a few years, they will realize they blew a very special opportunity to do something special...no doubt the talent is there and coaching, regardless of how good it is, can only take them so far. It appears to me that some seniors rather play like freshman and some of the younger players focus more on playing time, points scored & don't have a clue how to defend/rebound which is the first step in scoring!! I'm sure such drives a defensive minded coach crazy...Overall, I would bet that this year becomes the most wasted year in that high school's girl basketball history unless they mature & play up to their potential real soon..
  19. Pretty accurate post...I would only add that until Dyersburg beats an elite team, they should not be considered a top ten team..JNS should be higher since they've beaten some good teams thus maybe moving some of those border teams mentioned up to the top 10....
  20. Just to clarify...I remain a fan of Coffman's..he always has a trick or two up his sleeve come tourney time & would expect no less this time..My disappointment is that this team has such talent but don't use it like previous year teams did and seem to be mentally immature regarding their game...Every team in this district gets better each game but teams, like Crockett, Dyer and Gibson appear to want wins more at the present time and are willing to use what physical and mental abilities they have to get one....DHS girls don't...guess time will tell..
  21. Obion is more committed to defense than Milan based on what I've seen...Defense wins championships not threes...Obion has both....they'll win...it won't be easy, but they'll pull it out.......
  22. I'll offer only my humble opinion..First, the game was very sloppy but Milan fought thru that & won a big game. Dyersburg on the other hand, has some serious problems that I don't see getting fixed this year. I have seen them play alot since the first of the year & think expectations for this team were way too high to start with. Their big girl looks to pass first, score second which hinders their offense since it's apparently geared towards her. She's a great passer but she's got to score for others to get more clean looks at the basket. Yancy is a player but her heart & effort can only go so far without some assistance. The other girls play defense flat footed, with no heart nor intensity if they play it at all & appear to be worried with scoring rather than stopping the other team. The guards play soft, on their heels & do not protect the ball. It appears to me the team is soft mentally don't appear to be interested in putting their heart into every game...To prove my point, compare the Dyer Co. & Milan games..two completely different teams..this group of girls are very disappointing but Coffman can't coach maturity..if they don't grow up quick, one & done in the district tournament.......
  23. 1) Obion..tough, team oriented...intensive defensive effort required to beat them.. 2) JNS.....experienced, deep bench, lock for regional championship game... 3) Milan...talent, inconsistency outside the paint may be their undoing though... 4) Gleason..defense, freethrows and Hudson will win alot of games.... 5) TCA...team work and schedule in their favor.... 6) Lake Co..coming on as tournament time approaches.. 7) Westview..road trips coming up will make/break their regular season... 8) Lexington..their guards..enough said... 9) McNairy....scary at tourney time approaches... 10) Dyersburg....appear to be on upswing but not really done nothing yet...jury still out.. Several others deserve a mention but Dyer Co., based on their effort, gets the nod..game in, game out, those girls come to play HARD...hope that effort translates into wins for them soon..
  24. If the Coach thinks it gives them a better chance, he'll hold it in a minute..my guess is that he thinks they match up well with Dyersburg & will let them play this time...now next time, if Dyersburg plays as well as they have been, he may change his approach completely....should be a good matchup between him & Coffman.....
  25. ***** Not a parent or nothing like that...just a fan of west tn girls basketball who studies the game & tries not to let emotions cloud my judgement or opinion of teams, players or coaches.. Dyersburg's been one focus of mine cause Coffman's impressive and runs a top program and I pay attention to those I hear talking, what I read, etc....don't mean to give the impression we're family cause not so...sorry....
