  1. Finally some basketball talk!! Here's just my opinion bout this district.. 1) Gibson...their heart is back & Russell will keep them focused. 2) OC...folks best watch Fussell & Pate..if they play off each other, look out & their coach will shine.. 3) Westview.....like their play, coaching, etc but concerned bout their lack of size compared to top 2.. 4) Haywood....athletic & will challenge folks every nite... 5) Milan....outstanding post play but guards will hold team back. Post can't score without ball.. 6) Dyersburg..still young & learning..give them one or two more years then they'll be back on top.. 7) Covington...not sure what the issue here is but don't seem to get it together.. 8) Crockett Co..same as Covington.. 9) Ripley...in for a long year in this district...
  2. I have indirectly known & watched LaRue coach for years. OCCHS admin. finally got one right. He's been in and around 13AA for years, so he knows what's expected every nite. He's a high character person & excellent coach. Fans will be thrilled & with what he has coming back, better watch them!! Great hire!!!
  3. Being honest, no fuel required cause a fire already there from a personal standpoint which won't be addressed in this format. The post was actually in reference to the good book which says you basically can't serve two masters without screwing up one's service to both. In this particular case, deciding which is more important, being a coach or father, and making the decision now obviously benefits his family and the program in the long run........
  4. My guess is no player will transfer anywhere. UC seems to be getting a program builder that's a quality person & OC, in the long run, will probably be better off. The bigger question though is who'd want to coach at OC?? That place don't have the best of reputations coupled with the history & tradition of the girls program not to mention the talent the program generates every year, whoever's selected had best be tough & very thick skinned... good luck!!
  5. Hate to hear this! Kim's a quality coach & person which athletes today sorely need to be surrounded with. Wishing her the best! Hope administration can get someone who's equal quality as teacher & person & build something special there..those kids deserve it....
  6. Glad to hear Wilder did great. He's appeared to mature this year & pitched his best in big games. Stepping up to the challenge!! Wonder who he got that from?? Here's wishing both teams (DC & DHS) the best & hope they play each other one more time after wednesday!!! Great game & give them heck TROJANS!!!
  7. I only know of that girl in dyersburg who tore one ACL one year, then the other one the next year. She has since had another surgery which may or may not be related to the previous ACL surgeries. I also understand she's still playing for Ole Miss...I would encourage you or your daughter to call that high school coach, Randy Coffman at Dyersburg High School & talk with him or see if he can get your daughter that player's number to talk with her. What I do know based on conversations I have witnessed and had with that player & her family, surgery is the easy part. The rehab and mental aspects afterwards are tougher and more painful. If she truely loves the sport and the competition, she'll fight through it & succeed. Do not rush rehab, be it 6 months, 9 months or a full year and brace mentally for the other one to tear as well.... My prayers are with you. Anytime a child hurts, everyone who loves them hurts right along with them....good luck...
  8. I agree completely..only in Obion County will a STUDENT/athlete's transfer hit the papers AND it's not like this is the first time such has happened in the last few years. Here's another news flash too...until someone or some people in that county stand up & acknowledge the issues then address them, this won't be the last. Reedy's a good kid by all accounts & wish her nothing but the best. She's going into a great system, great coaching staff & should warrant even greater results....
  9. Ok, it's really too early to make predictions but here's my shot, if no injuries occur to any team, 1) Gibson Co..got too much inside & out returning, with experience..great rebounding team too which will make a difference against good teams..also plays solid defense which is huge plus in this district.. 2) Obion Co...again, good mixture of inside & outside play but short on experience one through about eight. The two most experienced they got will have to carry them till others get comfortable & 13AA lessons are tough sometimes.. 3) Westview...perimeter play above everyone else but unless they're hot, solid defense & rebounding will beat them..outside shooters best in district though but not sure they can do enough against top two.... 4) Dyersburg...toss up in this slot between them & Milan. Both teams inexperienced but appear to have good talent coming on but edge in preparing team & coaching gives Dyersburg the slight edge at this time.. 5) Milan...see above. 6) Crockett Co...in any other district, probably would be 4th best team but in this district, too tough. More experienced players coming back though compared to Dyer so they get the edge here.. 7) Dyer Co...great kids who work hard but again, in tough district. I think the coach is a great person but not sure she's the calibar to push this program upward..guess time will tell!! Can't wait for the season to begin but until then, bring on the football!!!
  10. I think DCHS will win & on their home floor, probably by 20 or more..but saw DHS play in their Christmas tourney & was very impressed with their coach..he pulled his starters to make a point & probably cost them the game. The program is headed in a positive direction & would guess the game at DHS would be closer...should be what high school basketball is all about & can't wait to see it!!
  11. Let's try to put this in perspective...1) DHS had a season most teams would love to have yet to some, that was not enough so the coach gets rode and bad mouthed till he leaves.. It appears he fell into the same trap other coaches did trying to replace an icon & was never given the same benefit of doubt, trust, confidence, etc. given to the previous coaching staff. Rumor is that even his family was subjected to criticism. The man made the best decision possible for his family & should be wished only the best by everyone associated with DHS....2) The program is not a wreck, still got a ton of talent returning and coming up and should be a contender for many years to come...with continued WORK!!..3) Let's hope the next coach hired to run this storied program gets the full benefit of what we've all learned from this lesson....if that happens, we'll always be winners!!!
  12. A ton of variables in this game. For an OC win, realize they can't run with Milan, slow the ball down, permit one shot only & make them shoot outside. If that happens, OC will win probably by 10 or more. For Milan, get the ball to Gray & RUN!! OC has no one that can stop her. Get the Purdue signee focused & showing the district why Purdue wanted her & push it. They have the talent to take it if they use it..if that happens, Milan by less than 10 since it's at OC...Should be a great game to watch & can't wait!!
  13. Based on what I've seen & heard, this group may challenge for 4th in the district..may even split with DHS during the regular season if not sweeping them and that's not happened in at least a couple of years, right? Best advise is one game at a time & continue to improve each time out..it's a long season & others will improve too...best of luck to all...
  14. Don't know specifics but rumor is that DHS got kicked....per some, they......well, you know!! I understand a ton of turnovers was passed around & even not so good teams, if given enough turnovers, can beat you.....it's early though, and a long season........they'll bounce back or Coffman will stroke out!!!
  15. MTSU gets a jewel here. Abby is a first class act with great folks, great attitude and work ethic. All she needs is an opportunity & MTSU gave that..she'll be fine. What she lacks in height & outside shooting, she makes up for in heart & hustle..two things Insell will exploite to the max....great kid & best of luck!!!
  16. OC should easily be one or two, depending upon (a) the team's commitment to defense and (/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> another consistent scoring threat to compliment Roney.....that's bout been their only weakness the last couple of years...get those issues resolved & book your rooms at the boro!!
  17. What is the big deal? They lost..somebody had to & it's not the end of the season. Learn from it & get geared up for the next game. That determines whether you're a champion or not. As for the DC game, great effort by both teams. My only issue would be why Parker handled the ball more than Caldwell or Taylor but then again, diversity is harder to prepare for, huh?? I hope both teams meet again in the playoffs....if DHS wins that one, think they'll remember the regional game??
  18. If I was at DHS & Kennedy left for bigger things after this year, Diggers would be an excellent replacement....he's a good coach, given some time, patience & a pinch of talent & he'll show positive results....
  19. *** I will try to type slower so you can hopefully read slower & understand. Nothing in this district is easy & OC knows that. My personal opinion is that Milan will win but it will be close & if coaching or players health become a factor, the scales might tip. Westview has been rebuilding for years but still at the top every year & that will continue. Don't hate the messenger cause you don't like the message. Just an opinion & that is why they play the game...enjoy the season!!!
  20. I think the best basketball in the state comes from West Tn. My early picks, subject to change based on health, would be as follows... 1) Milan..I think you'll see their post player step up her senior year, more mature & lead.. 2) OC...it will be a razor thin difference between them & Milan.. 3) Westview...good core coming back, based on success last year & assume that will continue to improve.. 4) Dyer Co....pretty solid group that showed some promise last year. Cupples get a bit of help & watch them.... 5) Gibson Co....talent down from previous years but hard work & dedication remain..coaching may cause a drop in performance only for first year though...my dark horse for the district... 6) Dyersburg...too much talent gone & not seen what's left stepping up..but coach proven winner in tournament so bet no one wants to play them come tourney time.... 7) Crockett Co...in any other district, easily a top 4 finisher.....
  21. First, DHS should win the game. My biggest concern is having these kids focus for 4 quarters. Failing to do so tends to develop bad habits that come back to bite you in big games...Hope that's not the case. I always knew defense would be in great hands with Coach K, based on his success at other locations...Come on TEAM, FOCUS & FINISH!!
  22. ***** What has this region come to when dyer county football fans are giving advise on WINNING to any other team in this region?? Mircles never cease!! Talk about wars, playing with heart, easier schedules, etc sound like advise from a progam accustom to such..Dyersburg is tough & although I think it's too early to talk championship, if the coaches can keep kids focused & developing chemistry, comfort with the new schemes, etc., who knows...that's why they play the game... As for OC, give the coach a chance...remember, the Jackson South Side defense he helped creat seems to be doing just fine....
  23. Hate to hear that OCCHS still has not lost their touch getting rid of good coaches... Decker should consider Dyersburg since I think they still have an opening on staff, his wife already teaches there & their kids would do good in that environment....No doubt, they'd love to have him....
  24. Refs were not the real problem...inconsistency in the way the lady trojans played all year was the problem...just a snap shot of how the entire season has been...
  25. This game was just a sample of the way Dyersburg has played all year long...shut down their inside play & their perimeter game disappears...can't hit open shots, can't take it to the rim, etc....tough way for those seniors to go out but that's the way the game goes this time of year.....McLin & Yancy were non factors along with poor play will get you beat by good teams every time.... Wish Northside the best....
