Watertown QB leaving for a private? The #3 playoff spot is wide open!

Knoxville West Hc Lamer Brown placed on leave
RocketTop replied to Aitch's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
Pendulum swung from one extreme to the other. Bill Mahr did a great segment on the #metoo movement over the weekend and how ridiculous it's become. -
2A baseball final should have been Forrest vs Huntingdon. Two legit 2A schools but we'll be playing up in 3A football this fall. Not sure if we'll have 500 kids on first day of school in August. What a joke indeed.
-
Where? This is the least active board on the site. Upperman's schedule and AC's offseason are the only things being discussed and i know nothing about either.
-
Two of the top 3 teams in 2A are a large metro magnet school and a high school with its own academy. Throw in a Memphis school that was a merger from a few seasons ago that recruits north MS. Way to go TSSAA.
-
3A East is up for grabs.
-
If he's a big time D1 corner/ athlete he'll be fine at either school.

Great to see the rest of the region benefitting from the new transfers. Giles was known for upgrades using the old system.

How many kids officially leaving bearden?
RocketTop replied to BeardenBullies's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
So 5 weeks after this thread started, how many kids left Bearden? -
Not sure if Forrest or Cascade will be much different than playing Grundy County for the Indians. Your competition for region and the east is Giles. Cascade had a good 3-4 year run with some decent physical athletes but that has passed. A month ago I picked Forrest to finish 3rd (easily) and maybe give Sequatchie or Giles a challenge if they got some breaks but several key players will not be playing this year so it's likely we're battling Cascade for the 4 spot and maybe if we stay injury free and get some breaks slip by Watertown. Forrest will have one of the best running backs you will face this season and with a decent O line, we may score some points. But our defense hasn't been able to stop a good middle school team since 2021.
-
nope. East Nashville goes west. East Robertson goes west. 18 teams in the east and 27 teams in the west. Make it make sense!
-
Westview is definitely the favorite. Giles and Sequatchie return a lot. Giles has 3 quality 5A's on their schedule so they aren't afraid of the competition.
-
Unfortunately, yes. Can't believe cascadehomer didn't break the story. Will be lots of new faces taking the field for the Rockets this spring. We still have one of the best running backs in the state but some key returning players aren't returning. General's prediction from March may be right on. Will have to get some breaks and stay injury free this season. I honestly don't know what to expect right now. Hope to get a report after the spring wraps up.

why is it so hard to get kids out in small schools now.
RocketTop replied to Captainmidnite51's topic in Class 1A & Class 2A
How many small teams play more than 30 kids on a Friday night? Most don't play 20 in a varsity game. Many don't have any JV or freshman seasons, so the younger kids are nothing but practice dummies. Standing on the sidelines for your school doesn't sound as appealing to teens now like it did twenty years ago. Heck, the student section is the place to be now for the marginal athlete. -
How many transfers they getting? They were drubbed by a very young Giles squad in Rd 1.
-
The 2A realignment was done in such a way that it appears the sole objective was to put Marion Co back in the championship game in 2025 and 2026. No division has ever been weaker than 2A East. They moved any threat up or over to the west.

Actually voters are a layer of accountability if they do their job. Who votes or holds TSSAA accountable for screw ups?
-
They can add a layer of accountability that is sorely lacking now. Legislators let TSSAA know 4 years ago they wanted the transfer rule changed. Nothing happened until the bill was out of committees this session. TSSAA can't competently do a realignment. The Milan Academy scheme was enough for me to want a change. Right now, wealthy kids can afford a second home in a new district, the urban kids with unstable home lifes, and the international boarding students can transfer and be eligible immediately. Middle class students in bad situations unable to move are forced to stay put or lose a year of eligibility. That issue needs fixing.
-
Law became pointless when the Senate amended their bill to read exactly like the TSSAA changes.
-
Has the legislation been amended to have the same BS language in it as the TSSAA ruling? Originally, it was one transfer with no stipulations now thew House bill has the social, academic, mental reasons.
-
He's back and definitely special. We had another who was every bit as good who transferred out to privates and didn't play last season. Pearl Cohn's QB grew up in Chapel Hill and played youth league with these guys. We should have one of the best edge rushers in 3A. 230 pounds one of the strongest and has one of highest verticals in state. This group has been circled since they were first graders as special but over the years several have left the program and the bogus move up to 3A will be a challenge.
-
A ladies college team couldn't win many high school boys regions. They would have trouble qualifying for state in most divisions.
-
What did the TSSAA vote today change? Voted to remove the Residence Rule from the bylaws. Students with athletic records would still have to have a bonafide change of residence to be eligible at the varsity level. International students who have not completed their terminal grade would continue to be eligible if they stay with a host family and meet all other eligibility requirements.

TSSAA Legislative Council met and removed the Residency Rule but what does that change? Voted to remove the Residence Rule from the bylaws. International students who have not completed their terminal grade would continue to be eligible if they stay with a host family and meet all other eligibility requirements.

There's a House committee, a Senate committee, and the TSSAA Legislative Committee all looking at this issue. I believe it passed both State committees last week. TSSAA is looking at it again this week.
