  2. That is correct and this recent article lays out the backstory pretty well. So to be clear it isn't wrestling parents telling "little johnny" he can't compete and it isn't wrestling parents raising soft kids, it was coaches and ADs who made every bit of this happen and in particular it was the sport of football that drove the decision making process. Is there some small percentage of soft kids and parents within wrestling? Sure. That exists everywhere in every walk of life and has for all of time. If anyone wants to pin a medal on someone for being soft go lay it primarily on the chest of football as football seemingly drove every high school sport into the current situation, right or wrong. I happen to agree with the public/private team split but disagree with respect to the split in individual State Tournaments in sports like wrestling, track, tennis, golf, etc. But again it wasn't parents that orchestrated the current system. Quotes from the article:
  3. Who was most responsible for the split? TSSAA, coaches, or parents? I'm asking because I've never heard a parent complain (to an unbearable degree) about an outcome, other than in the moment which is sometimes understandable. Most, keyword most, parents seem to have a pretty good understanding about where their kid stands in the grand scheme of wrestling within TN. It only takes one or two matches against a nationally ranked kid or year round wrestler for parents to see the big picture. I think the only culprit, or at least the main culprit, in all this is the TSSAA and not parents so I'm not sure how many hurt feelings there really are. Parents just roll with whatever the current rules are. I don't think the vast majority of parents would mind a 32 man combined bracket for individuals. Also this really isn't a sport most people simply fall into. It is niche enough that it takes a certain type of kid and parents to withstand the blows to their collective egos that come early and often. My own son wrestles at a county school and the collective wrestling IQ amongst parents isn't anywhere close to high and yet I don't see or hear a bunch of whiners who are crying over their kid's position within the sport.
  4. I saw AA Region 5 just put the brackets up and for Wilson Central Steven Fisak is not listed at 145, 152, 160 or on the team page. What the heck happened? Man I hope he didn't get injured.
  5. If you email Hamm with results he will adjust the rankings and usually pretty quickly. He can't keep up with the whole state without interested parties keeping him up to date.
  6. My own son has trained under Bosken at his camps. Dude is as tireless as his wrestlers. I will never knock his (and I'm sure the other coaches) practices, attention to detail, work ethic, and willingness to go anywhere. Plus they share all their knowledge freely. Cleveland is the best most consistent program in the state currently and it cannot be argued. As to when that changes, no idea, but everything changes. Someone else will come along learn, duplicate, improve, and exceed.
  7. I should be more clear. The initial investments, matching dollar for dollar by his foundation, funding the kids clubs, constructing the Jones center for wrestling, and purchasing a bus for the kids club cannot be replicated by anyone (?) in the state. What can be replicated is their attention to detail and work. But all of those investments matter and again, as stated by Bosken himself, were critical to Cleveland's transformation. I'm sure you and others are telling the truth in that perhaps Jones' involvement is minimal these days. Full, absolutely full credit to Cleveland for utilizing what they were given to it's potential. I would liken this to Kemmerer's arrival in NE TN. Joe's arrival (to my knowledge) was brought about by one dad whose name I won't mention. Bringing in Kemmerer mattered and it took a dad with resources to make that happen. No resources, no Joe, and then there is a bunch of kids who wouldn't be where they are today. Resources always matter, not quite as much as the work, but they matter.
  8. Well I will make one argument now that I re-read. The initial investment made by Allan Jones cannot be replicated monetarily by any other school in TN. Those investments, as Bosken stated himself, made possible Cleveland's transformation. The coaches and the kids ran with it.
  9. No arguments to any of that. Cleveland, coaches and kids, absolutely do the work. Their youth program is second to none. I've never heard a single person make this statement: "Cleveland is lazy".
  10. I was not good at sports and was kicked off every team I ever made in high school and I simply want to say I'm blown away by how hard the Greeneville kids have worked over the years. Truly is nuts, I can't fathom it. I had 1/100th their discipline in anything at their age. Would have been great to have one 32 man bracket in the end to watch all of those type of kids who really really wanted to excel in wrestling face each other. Also a shout out to Joe Kemmerer, dude was an incredible clinician and I enjoyed watching his "games" which all boiled down to 47,000 hours of live wrestling after 63,000 hours of drills (plus "tap or take a nap"). LoL. He really did raise the level in NE TN. I'm going to miss watching all this.
  11. True, but everyone time this topic comes up it reverts back to the well "no one wants to accept we do the work". Simply isn't true. Bosken has earned everyone's respect (I don't know Knox) for the countless hours he spends. Man cares about wrestling and especially Cleveland wrestling. Everyone involved in wrestling knows you all work. But stop, just stop, with the arguments that imply how all of the many many investments initially made by one wealthy patron and his foundation didn't really matter with respect to where Cleveland is at. They did. They mattered an absolute metric ton. No one in the state, could do what you are all were allotted and to pretend otherwise is tiresome. I'm not mad. A rising tide lifts all boats.
  12. Right but you are acting as if you pulled yourself up by your bootstraps. You did not. There was a lot of help to create that dynasty which seems to make you mad.
  13. I stated at least three times the coaches and kids must do their jobs, and they do. What you can't accept how much the money helped get you to this point. I already accept you all do the work.
  14. JIII Also conveniently overlooking this part from the 2015 article: Foundation matches every dollar
  15. Who cares about everything you just listed. Every other program (worth their salt) does that to. I was pointing out, and Bosken stated it himself, how it began and how it was able to begin. The program didn't pull itself by it's bootstraps. I stated repeatedly the kids and coaches must do their job, and they do.
  16. A rising tide lifts all boats (and I firmly believe this) but the comments concerning Cleveland (and Bradley) always give me a good chuckle. There is so much money pumped into that program when compared to any other public school program in TN (that I'm aware of). Cleveland has the money, and just as key, does the work. But the money is where it starts as that enables the hiring, and most importantly, the ability to keep Coaching talent. The old saying that money can't buy happiness is true, but so is the other frequented quote "but it sure can fix a lot of problems". Pull all, every bit, of that money and the facilities out of Cleveland and come talk to me about where you are at with respect to the rest of state. Jeebus...is there anyone who somehow thinks that money is not a huge reason for their program's success? Don't get mad at me, read Bosken's quote just below. He states the obvious himself. Again, the kids and the coaches must do their job, but it is sure is nice to have access to everything you could possibly need right there with respect of funding, coaches, and facilities. Also, lets not forget the Boom ranch, but again money. I'm talking about programs and not individual kids beating other individual kids. Plenty of individual talent across the state. 17. Agreed, with the tournament spanning three days, plus traveling the day before, everyone will have to consider their weight carefully.
  18. Obviously these are early predictions and weight class changes could occur. Other contenders are in no particular order. 106: Two man race between two of the best in TN 1. 19. You seem to be in the know about PF. Is GF eligible? Noticed he showed as eligible on track within the last few days after not being eligible for the entire season and yet he didn't wrestle at state duals.
  20. For life of me I can't understand not having one division for at least D1 A and AA at individuals. It would be amazing. I can understand duals but not individuals. If the concern is medals for kids then make it 32 man bracket and medal to eighth.
  21. Such a quality match at 106 with Joseph and Carson. If they meet at individuals Joseph has established himself as the clear, but close, favorite with 2 wins to 0 over Carson. Greeneville loses Kodiak, Leandre, Malik, and Cornelius. Obviously Kodiak is irreplaceable. Signal loses Shriner and Williams. PF loses Parton, Gray, and Gentry (and Foreman but but for all practical purposes he was already gone). Anyone know how/why Garret Foreman suddenly appeared as eligible on Track when he wasn't eligible for the entire season (including last week)? That was weird.
  22. Good call cowcatcher. Urohchuk took it 4-2.
  23. Also shows how tough duals was in small school considering their history in small school. 2021: No medal 2020: Fourth 2019: No medal 2018: No medal 2017: No medal
  24. For sure bad luck on DBs part with Cleveland but look at the Halls dual with Greeneville for sectionals. Halls won six matches, and all six were by pin.
