  1. Impressive reversal by Colin Dupill to beat the flowrestling 14th ranked Cameron Catrabone in triple OT. Hunter Mason dominant and controlling in his win, other kid seemed to be doing his best to turn it into a brawl, Hunter wasn't buying what he was selling. Carson manhandles his quarter final opponent 12-4. All three of the above onto the semis. Of note is that Hunter gets the flowrestling number 5 at 138 in Kolin Rath. Desselle wrestled tough in his quarter finals, all the way to 3-3 in the third and gets hit by a double with 15 seconds left. Into the consoles where he immediately bounces back and beats the 15th seed. Super sophomore Max Norman ran into a senior wrestler he couldn't physically dominate but nonetheless puts on a show. No rest for Max as he will get the 9th seed in the consoles. Mason Jakob still looking sharp in the consoles.
  2. Dagen's previous win is over a training partner of Hunter's and Max. Or at least he was for years, I'm guessing he still is.
  3. Dupill brothers look really sharp. Desselle wrestling tough and looks ready to continue on tomorrow. Great to see Hunter back out on the mats for the second week in a row after completing a long rehab process. It looks to me that Hunter is feeling more and more comfortable after each match. Max had a tough match third match where he was able to come back from an early deficit and eek out the win. Mason Jakob is in the consolation but looking really dominant since his main draw loss.
  4. FYI: when I said LoL it was because we were all reading right over the part about going to Illinois. The Dvorak tournament is tough and in actuality, depending on the kids involved, more beneficial.
  5. Impossible these days with all us geezers watching the matches week in and week out. I chuckle at the "it's a secret" mentality that some still carry. Ain't no secrets. Plus, as you know, kids today have to (or are supposed to) maintain their weight within certain percentages and they can only go down or up so much week in and week out.
  6. LoL. Cleveland isn't going to Beast of the East. They are going here: Al Dvorak Invitational
  7. I'm guessing simply moving kids up and down like everyone else. Jarvis can go 126 and Finley could go 152 or 170. There is no magic as we can all watch their roster on rank and track. The days of surprising people are over.
  8. Weird. I guess they haven't finished loading teams into Track https://unapproved website/tw/predefinedtournaments/VerifyPassword.jsp?tournamentId=684578132
  9. Track doesn't show Cleveland entered for Beast of the East.
  10. Agree, DB currently has six kids registered for the beast of the east . I'm guessing Max, Titus, Mason Jakob, Crowder, Dempsey, and maybe Watterson or Tucker. Regardless DB will be greatly impacted.
  11. My nephew goes to school with Carson Gentle at McCallie and he mentioned him to me a few months ago. Junior this year and after watching him wrestle he looks to be a handful. I've never seen Stutts wrestle but have heard good things.
  12. Was doing a quick comparison between Summit and DB as things currently stand (it is so early, I know lineups change) and this is how I think it goes, DB wins 8 matches, Summit wins 6 matches. How the matches are won will play a big role and I'm sure some strategy will come into play where weight is concerned (such as Finley trying to avoid Norman). Seems like Summit, Wilson Central, Blackman, and DB are all going to be in the hunt for that top four finish. 106 DB (Pulizter) 113 Summit (Masi) 120 DB (Mason Jakob) 126 DB (Titus Norman) 132 Summit (Jarvis Little) 138 Summit (Deselle) 145 Summit (Leach) 152 DB (Zhang) 160 DB (Norman) 170 DB (Dempsey) 182 DB (Burke) 195 Summit (Schreiber) 220 DB (Crowder) 285 Summit (Nieves)
  13. I don't see this having much impact outside something like Football or Basketball. I think like all things there will be those entrepreneurial sorts with extreme talent who figure out a way to maximize dollars accrued from their NIL while everyone else will be stumbling around like a drunk IG or TT "influencer" wondering why they can't make two nickels to rub together. Everyone underestimates how much work it is to achieve anything meaningful by way of a personal "brand". Adults have money, not kids and I'm not giving a nickel to some other kids sports endeavor (unless that kid has some sort of really harsh situation at home). If parents want their kids to travel, get a job that pays well enough to make that happen.
  14. I guess one potential money maker for better athletes is lessons. Kids can charge under the new rules for camps and clinics but something tells me that was already happening under the table. Of course the question has to be asked, how many talented HS kids can really teach other kids effectively? Not many is the answer, takes years to become a really effective instructor no matter what the subject matter is.
  15. I'm going to guess that if any traction is made from other states then those other states will quickly adopt NIL. I still can't see wrestling being impacted as it is such a niche sport. Football? Sure.
  16. My understanding is that the contributions must be from private parties and not from schools. I guess the worrisome scenario is that private school boosters with money can buy future participants easier than public schools because public schools require a change of address (let us pretend). The private school waives tuition and the booster supplies NIL money. I'm glad kids can make money. I don't care one way or the other. Wrestling is an interesting sport because there are only so many elite wrestlers in TN. Very very small group. I can think of only a handful currently who even qualify. There is a lot of kids who are supposedly elite, go D1, and can't even survive two years let alone crack the lineup (that is no dig, just the truth). Anyways, it shouldn't be too hard to tell the impact of the NIL upon wrestling over the next four years because of the sport's size. My personal opinion is wrestling won't change all that much at the high school team level unless boosters are going to start paying pseudo-elite kids NIL money. Can't see it, but maybe I'm wrong. That isn't to say it won't happen but the frequency within wrestling will likely be low.
  17. Wrong Jefferson. Those articles all look to be out of Wisconsin and not Tennessee.
  18. Dobyns-Bennett has a well rounded AA dual team. I think anything less than a top 4 finish would be perceived as less than optimum. With that said I don't think they can take the one or two spot but they are closing the gap with what they currently have. Crockett should be a far better single A dual team than most suspect. They have a complete roster for the first time I can remember (with a nice mix of ability levels) which is more than most can say within their region and section. They are going to match up quite nicely with Halls, Gibbs, or Greeneville. Highlights. Titus Norman (DB) and Caylek Vann (Jefferson). Good match and closer than the final result would indicate but like his brother Titus comes ready to roll. Jake Ferrell (Crockett) vs Caylek Vann (Jefferson). Caylek participated in two really fun matches but came up short in both. 6-4 Jake in this one. Max Norman does what he normally does. Dempsey (DB) vs Colton Ferrell at 170 (Crockett). Good matchup with Dempsey eventually taking control and getting the 11-6 win. Gabe Ferrell (Crockett) vs James Robinson (Jefferson) at 182. Gabe Ferrell gets the nod 5-3. Gabe has only had a couple weeks of practice and isn't fully in shape yet but when he arrives at that point he will be a real handful. Blaine Smith (Crockett) vs Bryce Pulitzer (DB). Crockett's 106 is brand new but he has want to, good instincts, and is tough. Pulitzer was dominant in his win but the Crockett kid hung as tough as he could and far longer than he should. Kennedy Watterson (DB) vs Jake Ferrell (Crockett). Watterson was dominant in a short but fun roll. DBs freshman Titus Norman, Kennedy Watterson, and Mason Jakob are all difference makers. Their 106 is vastly improved as well.
  19. Who won at 195? Lowery or Medina? The results weren't recorded in track.
  20. Good point, but you know the bright lights makes a bit more meaningful as funny things can happen. Speaking of 120 I saw Carson beat Terrell in the finals 4-3 today. Good win.
  21. What happened to Smalling? Saw he medical FF in the semis.
  22. Hopefully we see some Reep vs Smalling (SH) vs Titus Norman (DB) vs Dupill (GV) at some point just for bragging rights. All four sitting at 120 and 126, of course Norman and Smalling are freshman.
  23. I keep forgetting about Spencer transferring in from Gibbs. Gibbs and Pigeon Forge feeling the pinch of a private school being nearby. Kibblebeck will be a solid 106 as an eighth grader as well.
  24. Looks like no Hunter Mason, Colin Dupill, or Carson Dupill according to the wrestler list for Greeneville so a few weight classes are wide open. Lakeway lost Roller, Ivy, and Dalon who look to be irreplaceable for the immediate future. Gumlick brothers, Casto, and Eversole remain.
  25. Free to watch on youtube. Thoughts by you freestyle guys out there? Round of 16 Quarters Semi-finals Finals
