  1. Greenfield but could be closer than most would think. I could see Loretto keeping it close for at least one half. Then I think Greenfield just pushes their will on Loretto. I think Greenfield will build a pretty big lead (12-15+ points) in the late 3rd/early 4th quarter & Loretto will make a run midway through the 4th but Greenback takes it by 10-15 points in the end.
  2. This game could be really good one. If I was in Vegas & a betting man I would say Bradley Central would be a slight (1-3) point favorite. If both teams are on their A game this one should be a barnburner. I think Oak Ridge just might pull this one out but I certainly think this game is close either way. I don't see either team winning by more than 5 points unless one team comes out & just lays an egg. LOL! Seems like most teams so far in the tournament have not adjusted to playing in the bigger arena & therefore a different background to shoot the ball. Now that these 2 teams have a game under their belt then they should shoot the ball better but then again sometimes teams never adjust to this.
  3. Gibson County wins easily over Midway in my opinion. I would be surprised if the game is even close.
  4. Here are the results from Day #2 of the girl's state tourney quarterfinals: Class A Game #1: Loretto 59 Oneida 40 Game #2: Greenfield 64 Clarkrange 45 Game #3: Midway 53 Eagleville 51 Game #4: Gibson County 50 Summertown 32 Class AAA Game #3: Bradley Central 34 Lebanon 26 Game #4: Oak Ridge 65 Science Hill 49
  5. We really can't trust the numbers TSSAA puts out but I also know that usnews is not an accurate source either. There used to be a website that focused 90% of their content on high school enrollment & how it pertains to classifications in sports. It only lasted for a couple of years but they were accurate & did a nice job of keeping the site up-to-date. I don't know why they shutdown but they did back in 2015 I believe. It wasn't anything to do with the TSSAA because it was a website that did the enrollment numbers for all 50 states. I have been trying to think what the name of this website was all day long & can't remember for the life of me. I have Googled to try & find it but nothing has came up. I don't remember any name in the website title but I just know it was pretty much high school student enrollment related content.
  6. The refs were allowing both teams to beat the other team like a drum. LOL! You could say that they were allowing them play but a foul is a foul. I don't have any ties to either Loretto or Oneida but they both had to have been frustrated with the lack of calls from getting beat to death. The block/charge call is the toughest call for refs to make in basketball but in this game in my opinion they missed this call alone 3-4 times. They also let quite a few over the back calls go as well. You could also say they were at least consistent with their lack of calls both ways as well. They refs didn't show any favoritism towards either team with the officiating but I still think when someone is clearly fouled the whistle has to be blown.
  7. The officiating in this Loretto-Oneida girl's game is just horrible both ways!
  8. That is a decent size in disparity between the 2 Districts especially for MLK, East Nashville, & Maplewood. They all 3 are over 1,000 students. Not a single school from District 9AA has 1,000 student enrollment. This definitely needs to be looked into by the TSSAA. I know classification enrollment in basketball is different than football but this is quite a difference between District 9AA & 10AA for basketball. MLK from District 10AA has well over double the enrollment as Westmoreland from District 9AA. Geez!
  9. That's not 100% true. The 2 games (@ Cocke County early in the season & vs Tenn. High in R1-AAA Quarterfinal) that I seen them play in person this season they played both zone & man-to-man. My guess would be one of the games they played zone 3/4 of the game (Tenn. High). The other game (@ Cocke County) it was less zone but still ~1/2 the game. They also employed a half court trap at times in both games.
  10. It's a regular season award & has been since these Awards started. They are not going to change how it works anytime in the near future either or maybe it will stay this way as long as these Awards exist.

  12. Here are the results from Day #1 of the girl's state tourney quarterfinals: Class AA Game #1: Macon County 56 Covington 38 Game #2: Cheatham County 49 Grainger 41 Game #3: Marshall County 34 DeKalb County 31 Game #4: Westview 54 South Greene 42 Class AAA Game #1: Riverdale 67 Arlington 50 Game #2: Houston 66 Mt. Juliet 58
  13. I agree. I think Sevier County will play mostly if not all zone against Whitehaven. They can't stop Whitehaven in a man-to-man defense. I also think with Sevier County & their quick guards they will throw some full court traps in the backcourt to try & get some steals & easy buckets.
  14. Sevier County to me is the most surprising team in the state tourney including all 3 levels of classification (A-AAA). I've seen them play twice in person this season. They won one game & lost the other one. To me, they are a team that's just well coached. They don't have a star even though PG Marvin Castro is probably their best player @ 5'10" & a light 130 lbs. They play true team basketball. They do have 2 players that go 6'5" in Wesley Maples & Camden McElhaney. Maples is the better of the 2 taller players. They are just a well balanced team. They also play pretty good defense. They play mostly man-to-man but at times will throw a full court press & also a zone in the half court defense. I just don't see them matching up well with Whitehaven though. I am expecting more zone from Sevier County in this game. I still personally think Whitehaven is a much better team overall. I could see Whitehaven winning by 10+ points.
  15. You're welcome. Good Luck to your team but since I root for local teams I have to be a fan of University High in this one. I did pick McKenzie though in the "Big Ones" contest here on the boards & also in Jim's bracketology pick 'ems as well. LOL!
  16. I live in the Region/District area for University High. I have seen them play 3 times total this season. Twice in person & once online on demand via NFHS Network. I will say that I'm a little surprised they made it all the way to the state tourney. Having said that, they were picked to win their conference before the season started. They do have experience & also a very good head coach as well in Penley. They really don't have a star player. They have about 4 good players & the rest are role/support players. I have also watched McKenzie play from NFHS Network 1 time as well. They beat whoever they played the game I watched but can't remember who they played. I think McKenzie is the better team & a pretty clear favorite. I would expect for McKenzie to win by possibly double-digits but you just never know in these state tourney games. I certainly don't see or expect for this game to come down to the end unless all 4 of the key players for UH are having really good games.
  17. Well, I watched 2 games online of Humboldt this season. Both games I seen them play he did showboat. I know what showboating is & he not only showboated but also taunted players in each game with looks/stares & you could see his mouth running. That would probably fall more into the category of trash talking with the mouth running. Having said that about him, his stats were just incredible. Looking at his individual stats compared to the other 2 Finalists alone Jones clearly had the best overall season (stat-wise) of the 3 Finalists.
  18. Looks like you're going with a few mild upsets. I say mild because there really are no major upsets when it comes to the final 8 teams left in the postseason. Anybody can be beat. However, there are just a few teams that come into the tournament that sets them apart from the others.
  19. Nope. The Commercial Appeal from Memphis had an article 2 days ago that said he was done for the rest of the season.
  20. You think Anthony Jones showboating type of play hurt him in voting? I mean look at the kids stats. They were remarkable. Harris had solid stats too just like all of these Finalists but it's not only stats that factor into these Awards. It's the players as great students in the classroom & character as well. Now, Anthony Jones character off the court would have to be solid or he wouldn't have been a Finalists. However, he showboats on the court with his play. Maybe voters might not have liked that about him & therefore he could have received less votes because of it.
  21. I agree with you. Of course, all of the Finalists could have won but I personally think in ALL Classes (A-AAA, DII-A, & DII-AA) they got them right.
  22. I think Whitehaven beats Sevier County by double digits. Yes, Memphis East seems to look like the favorite with their draw & side of the bracket.
  23. My picks for the quarterfinals in bold above. There are quite a few toss-up games in my opinion. The only clear ones to me are Eagleville, Humboldt, Wooddale, Whitehaven, & Memphis East.
