  1. From what I’ve heard from folks who should know, WC should go down as a win for H2O. But that being said, we’ll see which H2O shows up. The second half DeKalb team or the Gordy/Westy team. Like TC said, WC has Some athletes, but from what I’ve heard they’re not much of a “team”, more of a group of individuals. We’ll see. Region game, so it counts more than last week.
  2. A much better job tonight. Good to see Coach Self on the sidelines again. I know he’ll make a huge difference. Some new formations, better play calling overall. Still some points of frustration, but we actually made some changes that made a difference. So I’m very happy to say I was wrong. I hope the progress continues. The boys played with some joy tonight, it was good to see.
  3. They were in some different formations tonight, I mentioned one of them. But we are still commonly coming out in 3 wides and and RB. And as you said, not throwing it or being ineffective when we do. There are many things that can be done. One being WRs picking up linebackers on screen plays and end runs, which we don’t do. It’s not like they are missing the blocks, they aren’t even looking for them from what I’ve been seeing. Which means either it’s not being coached, or the players aren’t doing what they’ve been coached to do. But it is not uncommon to see a WR not blocking anyone as the runner gets creamed by a LB. But if we can get that down, it will help a lot. But ultimately we are in a down cycle right now. We’ve had some really outstanding athletes come through over the past 5 to 7 years. So as you said, who knows what might work, maybe nothing. Maybe a lot has already been tried, and this just as good as it’s going to get for now. Either way, I’ll still cheer the boys on, then as many do, vent my frustrations here as needed, if needed.
  4. He should get some offers. He is a real weapon.
  5. 6-0 win is better than a loss any day but wow that was ugly. H2O didn’t win that game, Westy lost it. Penalties and miscues killed Westy all night. Westy has a real weapon in their punter. That young man did an awesome job flipping the field all night. H2O was anemic on both sides of the ball, but far worse on offense. To give just one example of the clueless play calling: #6 Cooper (a really tough player) breaks a long run. Westy’s secondary chases him down. H2O goes hurry up… and hands the ball back off to the guy that was just running for his life 15 seconds ago. Did we try to take advantage of the secondary that was still winded after chasing down the runner? Nope, just run that tired running back right into the teeth of the Westy D line for maybe a yard. And that is just one example of many. Still running spread with players that are not suited for it. I did notice we went into a pro set type formation a few times, but still not an offense that this group of players can do well in. Unless you use that formation for some misdirection, which we don’t. This was one of the 3 or 4 games I thought we would win this year, so I’m glad we got the W… next week might be a different story.
  6. Yup… although I’ve always called the Wing T a commie offense . But it is effective when you don’t have the talent for much else.
  7. I thought their QB looked really good. He has some zip on the ball AND had some decent touch. They have some size on the line as well. They should do very well for themselves this year.
  8. Well…. That was ugly. The good… Coach Hackett still knows how to coach defense. The Bad… Coach Webster still can’t coach offense. I think I’m going to call Webster’s offense the Joe Biden offense, for reasons that at this point and time might seem “too soon”. But he is about as innovative as a corn flake. There were a couple of moments were they seemed very low energy (a trade mark of the Joe Biden offense), heck even the band was playing slow, but for the most part the effort seemed solid. Solid effort+poor scheme=what we saw last night. Unless something drastically changes this team will be lucky to win three games this year. I’ll still be cheering them on. This town produces some outstanding young men, that alone makes them easy to cheer for. That being said we just don’t have the athletes we’ve had in recent memory. And unless Webster has a full house, he has no idea how to win with a pair of jacks.
  9. I would agree based on past experience. But it should still be a great high school football game. Looking forward to watching both teams this season.
  10. By not calling it, that’s how brawls start. Can you imagine if they were playing at Westy and that happened?
  11. So glad the TC/H2O game is the last game of the season this year instead of the third. Hopefully we’ll be seeing both teams at their best. Praying both teams stay healthy.
  12. H2O v Gordy is usually a good game… except for 2018… that was a beat down starting with the kickoff. Looking forward to seeing if the boys in purple learned any lessons from week one. Go Purple Tigers!
  13. I couldn’t make the game… first game I’ve missed in at least 8 years. But from what I’m hearing and seeing here the boys seem “flat”. No emotion, going through the motions. How’s our Senior Leadership this year? Asking because I honestly don’t know. Been out of the loop for a while.
  14. So since some folks “booking” the future of high school kids... who does TC have coming back next year. With #5 playing on Saturday’s is there a horse in the barn to replace him? I think one of the things that goes understated about TC is their LB play. Fast and strong to the ball. What’s it looking like next year for TC?
  15. Pulling for TC. Haven’t seen Meigs this year, but #5 for TC is just a force of nature.
  16. No doubt. #3 no slouch either. But #5 is a man playing a boys game. Really impressive. Even if you “stop” him he falls forward for 3 or 4 yards.
  17. Our DC was out for “Contact Tracing”. And our head coach his an issue with time management.... and finishing inside the 10.... and adjusting to what is happening from series to series.... etc, etc. Heath Price isn’t walking through that door. He saved that man’s bacon more times than I care to remember. But TC was perfect tonight. No penalties, great game management. That’s why you guys are who you are and why we keep trying. Congrats man.
  18. Great job TC. #5 is a bad bad young man. Good Lord he is something special. NOW GO WIN STATE!! I’ll be there to cheer you on. Congrats.
  19. Good Lord. Who did they say was downfield? Every lineman was behind the line of scrimmage. Unreal.
  20. Still, I was impressed the Marion’s effort the whole game. They’ll be a team to contend with next year. A lot of returning starters. One suggestion. If you only throw the ball when you think you “have to” throw the ball, you’ll never be very good at throwing the ball.
  21. TC is our white whale. They should be favored until we prove we can beat them in November. I feel good about our chances this year. But TC has shown they know how to win at this time of year. Should be yet another classic.
  22. Wow that’s a ton of of returning starters. That’s awesome. Yeah, safe to say Marion is on the road back.
  23. There was no quit in Marion. Both teams got chippy at the end. It was an emotional hard fought game. Hard to blame kids for doing a little pushing and shoving. Glad to see it was brought under control quickly and cooler heads prevailed. Some very large young men on that line. And #9 in the back field... Good Lord, that’s almost unfair.
