  1. Makes sense that one of the likely 5th place contenders would blow the whistle at this point in the season - betting they knew about this since game 1. Kid was supposed to play at Karns, so that seems a likely motivation. HC and AD really botched this one - especially if the kid is talented and a stand out. Bottom line is that Powell was in violation and should be held culpable... but the timing and specific punishment of this stinks for the Powell kids! Is there a scenario that gets Powell into post-season at this point? Must wins against West and OR... but is that enough?
  2. GAME DAY BABY! You 423 peeps travel safe coming down to the beautiful Valley! Hoping for a fun, competitive game.
  3. Never said it was OK to cheat... saying the timing of reporting and potentially who reported seems a bit suspicious. Did they really just now figure this out? Was this player the only reason they won these games? The other 50+ kids on this team and especially the seniors don’t deserve this penalty. Should definitely remove the player until eligible, fine the school, and heck even make the HC sit out the rest of the year or take money out of his pocket or the AD’s or both. But don’t punish the kids! Just my opinion. I have no issues upholding rules clearly stated and agreed to by each school. Just hate to see kids punished because their coaches and school leaders are morons or devious or both.
  4. If someone was going to report them, seems it would come from another district opponent. Something to be gained you know. And did it really take them 6 or 7 weeks to figure this out? Why not report in August and save the season for the rest of the "eligible" kids?!
  5. bump - to bring Blazer and Batman back to the future
  6. Definitely can agree with your line of thought... but fortunately the boys only have to play 1 game this week! So I gather you are expecting those Toppers to prevail over the Hawks... care to offer up a prediction? Only risk is a slab of humble pie with a side of crow! Figuring 1-6A predictions and post-season placement looks like a high order algebraic equation right now. I expect the math to simplify over the next couple weeks. I wouldn't go eliminating them Hawks and Patriots until you get a few more weeks under your belt. Eyes on the prize!
  7. It could actually get ugly... Hawkins is very tough to slow down. Not sure that Mo West has many offensive options to put up points against Jeff Co. But that's why they strap up... right? #anygivenfridaynight JC 35 Mo West 3
  8. Here is my fearless forecast on this "up for grabs" game to gain critical footing in 1-6A standings... Who you got? HVA 31 SH 28
  9. "Slam dunks" often lead to upsets... SH showed the Guts last week that assumptions and complacency can cost you a game. Ask SH about that "slam dunk" at Jeff Co last year. DB has certainly improved through the season, but nothing is a given in this region. I agree with Batman's formula... keep winning! Best to treat every week as a playoff game for this region! #anygivenfridaynight Go Ads... scalp them Injuns!
  10. Agree completely... I'm a little nervous about this week - these last 4 games will get tougher each week for HVA. After this past Friday results, it looks to me like Farragut, Bearden, DB, and SH are all pretty equal - just depends on how they play any given night. Even though Friday night was close between HVA and JC, I believe HVA is more in line with the above 4-way juggernaut than Mo West and JC. This week will be HVA's first chance to measure up to the better teams in 1-6A. Looking back at games with Knox West and Oak Ridge (who played the Guts, DB, and Bearden) I think the Hawks are definitely in the hunt for the 1-6A title. Being able to rely on both pass and run will definitely benefit them through the last 4 games - my greatest concern is the battle in the trenches.
  11. A tale of two volatile and unpredictable teams here. Both need the win to keep relevant in the conference - SH a little more than HVA at this point. Expecting this to be a high scoring back and forth game similar to last year. Hawks need to come out strong and put up points early to help out the D late in the game. Definitely can see this one going either way based on the body of work from both teams so far. SH flew in President Trump last night to help motivate them Toppers, but the Hawks are sharpening their talons and hoping to Make Post-season Great Again with a shot at the district title. That's why they play... #anygivenfridaynight
  12. Didn't see what happened with the Ads vs SH... but if the first half Guts play a full game this week - DB loses by a couple or more. If the second half Guts come to play, then DB might get the W (if they play a nearly perfect game like they did against SH). Selfishly I hope the Guts win. FHS 31 DB 17
  13. Wow what a game! Hawks were down 21-7 at half. Could not stop #18 On the ground and struggled to find rhythm on O. Came out strong in the second half and won with go ahead field goal with 5 seconds left in the game. Final HVA 38 JC 35
  14. Only game for HVA on grass this year... makes me nervous with all the pregame rain. Hopefully it won't be a factor.
  15. Critical region battle from two teams with some momentum. Can HVA stop Hawkins? Can JC stop the balanced attack from the Hawks? Special teams may play a factor in the victor here. Two blue-collar D's trying to manage 4 quarters. HVA 28 JC 20
  16. Think this one is a slobber knocker for sure... Indians will ride on those powerhouse backs and milk the clock - successfully this time! Think this one stays close all night but I agree its a few scores to a few scores. DB 21 BHS 20
  17. Got some great friends on both sides of this battle... but there is nothing better to me than watching the Indians lose. Certainly no hard feelings against the great group of men dressing out... heck I even coached a few of them when they were young fellars... but I will always root against the Tribe when that annoying war-hoop starts! Do hope it is a safe trip down to God's country and I do hope injuries stay scarce for all involved. There might be a few Hawks soaring in the stands tonight scouting our formidable, region opponent and learnin from the masters of disaster from Aluminum City. Alcoa 38 DB 14
  18. Polls are about as useful as the weather forecast around here... every now and then they get it right! That's why they play... #anygivenfridaynight
  19. OR 49 SC 0 (Really it will be whatever Gaddis wants it to be)
  20. I don't expect either team to make it to 30 points... Both teams have put up 90 points through their first 4 games. BHS has allowed 27 compared to SH allowing 136 (but SH had to face that NFL team from Greene county which lopsides those numbers a bit). Take away the Greeneville experiment and SH still has allowed 30 plus points on average in their first 3 games compared to BHS allowing just over 6pts per game. I don't think either team has an overpowering offense - especially when facing a tough, disciplined defense. As I said earlier this week, expect this one to be a low scoring game but I think BHS is more balanced and on a streak enjoying winning. DB's so-so defense held the Toppers to 21... can't see any team putting more up on the Dawgs compared to DB. I'll stick with BHS 17 to SH 14 in a close battle. But hey... that's why they play! #anygivenfridaynight
  21. To fix this requires change and sacrifice... for some. Here is a stab at rearranging districts that would work but I guarantee a handful of schools in the west and middle-west wouldn't like it. Just like Knox-area teams don't care for the drive to the Tri-Cities and vice versa (but we deal with it). EAST (25) Region 1 (6) Dobyns Bennett High School (Kingsport, TN) Jefferson Co. High School (Dandridge, TN) Morristown-Hamblen High School West (Morristown, TN) Science Hill High School (Johnson City, TN) Bearden High School (Knoxville, TN) Heritage High School (Maryville, TN) Region 2 (6) Maryville High School (Maryville, TN) Bradley Central High School (Cleveland, TN) Cleveland High School (Cleveland, TN) Ooltewah High School (Ooltewah, TN) McMinn Co. High School (Athens, TN) William Blount High School (Maryville, TN) Region 3 (6) Hardin Valley Academy (Knoxville, TN) Farragut High School (Knoxville, TN) Cookeville High School (Cookeville, TN) Warren Co. High School (McMinnville, TN) Coffee Co. Central High School (Manchester, TN) Lebanon High School (Lebanon, TN) Region 4 (7) Oakland High School (Murfreesboro, TN) Riverdale High School (Murfreesboro, TN) Blackman High School (Murfreesboro, TN) Siegel High School (Murfreesboro, TN) Mt. Juliet High School (Mt. Juliet, TN) Station Camp High School (Gallatin, TN) Wilson Central High School (Lebanon, TN) WEST (24) Region 5 (6) Hendersonville High School (Hendersonville, TN) Antioch High School (Antioch, TN) Cane Ridge High School (Antioch, TN) LaVergne High School (Lavergne, TN) Smyrna High School (Smyrna, TN) Stewarts Creek High School (Smyrna, TN) Region 6 (6) John Overton High School (Nashville, TN) McGavock High School (Nashville, TN) Rossview High School (Clarksville, TN) Brentwood High School (Brentwood, TN) Franklin High School (Franklin, TN) Ravenwood High School (Brentwood, TN) Region 7 (6) Independence High School (Thompson's Station, TN) Centennial High School (Franklin, TN) Dickson Co. High School (Dickson, TN) Arlington High School (Arlington, TN) Collierville High School (Collierville, TN) Cordova High School (Cordova, TN) Region 8 (6) Bartlett High School (Bartlett, TN) Houston High School (Germantown, TN) Germantown High School (Germantown, TN) Memphis Central High School (Memphis, TN) White Station High School (Memphis, TN) Whitehaven High School (Memphis, TN)
  22. Agree 6A is skewed. However, the first two rounds are typically a waste of time. I suggest they only advance 2 teams per region and break it down to 8 or 12 regions geographically. Has any 4th seed ever made it past round 3? I know T$$AA loves the extra gate money, but the current system is too broad to pick the best teams in the state. Ridiculous to play 3 games in August to make sure more than half the teams are in the playoffs. Too many losing teams are playing in the post-season. I would rather see an extra two weeks on the back end to let each team that wins a gold ball in their division play for a Platinum ball to name THE truly best team in the state!
  23. That's fair RR... but I happen to know a few among the Rebel Nation can't claim the same. Either way you are still one of handful of teams sitting at the top of the pile in the whole state - next to your neighbors.
  24. Interesting matchup here... offensive minded SH running into a brutal defensive minded BHS. I think the dogs prevail in a close one. BHS 17 SH 14
  25. Don't be fooled by Karns and Halls games with West. West O will struggle all night to move the ball against a fast and aggressive OR defense. If OR offense is clicking this could get ugly. West is tough at home and certainly has a pretty stout defense... but I think the superior coaching at OR wins the chess match. Misdirection and counters will likely give OR some big plays. OR's #13 better stay aware of West's #10 coming off the edge all night - he is a headhunter and will light you up! OR 31 WHS 7
