GovMan, Mr.Knowitall's take on GQ is probably the most laughable/ asinine statement ever posted on the CoachT board. The reason he left was because Maryville was down in talent? LOL. The next 3 years after GQ left MHS won 2 of 3 6A gold balls.
Comparing GQ to any other coach in Tennessee High School football is like comparing chess (GQ) to checkers. His winning percentage is the best in the history of high school football period, not just in TN. Admittedly there are some good checker players in the TSSAA high school ranks. He was the master of misdirection. Don't know how many throwback passes I've seen him burn people with over the years. I have seen GQ coached teams defeat some teams that I thought had better talent. Like the Central teams of the early 2000's with Zac Helton, Cassen Jackson and Lee Smith. The 2001 and 2002 Hillsboro teams, particularly the 2002 Hillsboro team that MHS trailed by 14 points numerous times and rallied to win on a double pass and a 2-point conversion and an onside kick recovery. Then the Rutherford county teams when the Rebels stepped up to the Super 32/ 6A. Smyrna, Riverdale, Blackman with Jennings, and Oakland twice were very talented. But we seemed to find a way 94% of the time.
I agree MHS is down now and will have to adjust and next year we may have a 9th grader at QB. Oakland simply has better players than any public school team in TN. now and Creasy does a good job in putting them in the best places to excel.
Additionally let me be the first to congratulate Alcoa on their next 3A championship in 2022.
