  1. I agree. Huge rivalry brings out the A games for these kids on both sidelines. WG has been on a roll. They are improved. They are coming in to this game pumped after knocking off Claiborne and Northhview. We have to maintain our focus and figure out how to play better D for 4 qtrs. Right now we are playing mediocre D with spurts of good D. That will get us in trouble eventually. WG has some good athletes. They run a two QB system and both are good and can sling it or run. They have a couple of good receivers, too. Haven’t seen them play but just what I remember from last yr.
  2. Battle for the Milk Can...Who takes it home?
  3. Sounds fun. Maybe have some real football weather then too.
  4. Thanks yeti. It’s a tough task but we’re gonna give it all we got! Not too concerned about top ten stuff. Can get in a players head. Still gotta show up to play the games. I remember a while back we had a girls basketball team ranked 5th in the nation and got put out of state semis by some team named Meigs county.
  5. Lol that’s one I haven’t heard haha
  6. CC had a huge amount of grads from last years team but still has RB #24 that killed us last yr. they have a transfer from Knox catholic who plays DE/TE and already signed with a smaller college in Michigan. He’s about 6’4 240. They have good size in the trenches as well. We will have our work cut out for us for sure.
  7. Did you see the big lineman #73 (I think) from Unicoi? I noticed he was huge. The announcer on radio said 6’5 and 300+. Thats big.
  8. Coach Larry Ricker and Coach Chris Ricker were two of the best on the football field and the hardwood. Hard nosed is an understatement. What years did you play?
  9. Wish I could’ve seen that. One of the guys from SG who played against him said Coach Ricker’s defense didn’t prepare for HV they just prepared for SV. LOL
  10. I disagree. Coach Verran has made a difference. I personally know that there was a serious possibility neither of the Myers boys would be at SG if we still had Jordy. And our biggest lineman wouldn’t be playing if he was still our HC. And if I recall while Coach Verran was at ng he beat us 23-6 at ng in 2014. When NG beats us that’s something we shouldn’t ever forget. I’m not saying he’s a football god who never makes mistakes but he’s helped lead us in a direction we wouldn’t have found on our own. He changed our offense from an air attack with soft blocking to a smash mouth hard hitting trench dominating ground control with a side of air assault. Yes we have good players with size on OL. But Kids don’t wake up one day and just figure out how to block if they’ve never done it before. That was taught. I’m not taking anything away from them but it takes someone who works with the other coaches to get that done. We didn’t have that before and if you’ve been around long you know what I mean. Our leading rusher who rushed for 1000+ last yr wasn’t even a RB until Coach Verran came. And he didn’t have 4.5 speed. Regardless of what kind of coach Coach Verran is, he is better than what we had with Jordy.
  11. Yes it was ugly last year. They were a tough week 3. This year on the road it will be just as difficult and maybe downright impossible if our defense gets complacent and lazy like they did against Cloudland. Cocke co is big and they balance the pass and the run. They have a couple of good targets to throw to so our secondary will be tested. Because of their size our DL will have to muscle through and get to the QB some which we haven’t done yet. So yes it seems like a big task but doable with a more consistent effort on both O and D. Cocke co had a big graduating class and have some holes to fill. I’d like to see us exploit a few. I think our OL can match up but we have to play better D and get to the Qb. #24 is one to watch. He’s a hard runner. We need to kick away from him.
  12. Yes I think the Hampton-HV game will be one of the most exciting matchups next week. I’d love to be in two places at once lol and be able to see that game. May turn out to be a defensive battle and whoever makes the fewest turnovers or mental mistakes or which line dominates the trenches goes home with a W. I think we are going to have our hands full with cocke county. It will be a good test for our secondary for sure.
  13. 73 is a great kid! We are proud of him. He has improved and worked hard in the weight room. He’s a jewel. All our grass cutters and peewee and midget players love him. Speaking of character, one of the Cloudland boys stood with my mom while I went to get the car. They were turning off lights and I guess he thought she was a bit nervous. That was nice. Great character. And a big thank you to that young man. We thanked him, But that was special enough to mention again. Great football atmosphere up on the mountain and great people.
  14. Not a break. Just a bit banged up. Ice and rest.
  15. CD QB Palazzo is a game film junkie. He loves the game—good kid to have on your team.
  16. Hmm I say Hampton by three tds. Hampton is too physical for them.
  17. I’m pretty sure the Greene County teams are getting paid. All too often it’s not worth it IMO.
  18. Kid broke ankle in practice but did hear they were banged up after Catholic game. Haven’t heard officially if anyone else is out.
  19. I know they have a good lineman hurt with a broken ankle. Not sure about their line depth. That will end up being crucial. Hv speed will hurt cd but if their Qb can make necessary reads and adjustments and use his speedy backs and receivers I think they can make it a game.
  20. Chivalry is not dead. Lol
  21. Impressive. Sounds like a D1 prospect. What year and how tall?
