So seems Janiya is taking the next step in her high wrestling career and transferring to Wyoming Seminary. I commend her for wrestling up against the best with Piper the past year instead of taking easy way and winning a state title at a lower weight.
-
Yes, 2 time state champion in Montana and state RU as a freshman, before heading to Iowa as a senior. Got beat 6-1 and 6-2 to the kids that placed 3rd and 4th.
-
That’s awesome, I’ll have to ask him about it!
-
I didn’t know you went to Hixson, not sure when you wrestled there but my Uncle wrestled there Wes Arnold, he’s the reason I wrestled to begin with. Good stuff Soms
-
Yeah, I’m not a fan of his, however if he actually wanted he could buy and sell Mark multiple times over, he just doesn’t choose to do so. of course it’s not often you find an area with that many millionaires that want to pour money into high school sports. I just wished Forrest would have pushed some to a school since he could buy and sell AJ lol. You would figure in a measuring contest AJ would try to win it at all costs so it surprises me he lets Mark beat him.

They don’t seem to have any issues with the admin when it comes to wrestling as they have put a ton of money into that program just like they have the football program. Seems to me they just need the coach and not a carnival barker Ala Butch Jones at UT

Pretty sure Hixson filled their position.

Bella the elite one was a senior so she’s done in high school, Clover is a sophmore. I like you question why even take a chance. Could have waited till sectionals which were 2 weeks out and that would have been plenty of time to get residential requirements in place and T’s crossed and i’s dotted. I hate it for the Cleveland girls, they worked hard for everything and earned it! also I looked and it seems that neither of the Williams girls went back to actually wrestle at Edmond North. So they went back but didn’t continue to wrestle. Wonder if they ran into eligibility issues themselves back in OK.
-
Yeah, it was very weird to see them not have a soul as a TN wrestler in the team part of sophomores. I mean we had TN wrestlers in every other division including middle school and the girls. Thanks for the update!

Since it doesn’t seem anyone wants to talk about it on here I’ll start. got Jojo vs Samuel Comes in the Junior bracket at 120 in the semis. So at least one TN kid into the finals. Tanner Tran in semis at 106 in junior bracket Ethan U at 132 into the semis in senior bracket Jay Eversole in semi at 182 in senior only 1 TN kid in the semis in freshman division and that is 285 Dewantae McMillon we have no TN kids in the sophomore division. we have quite a few still alive throughout conso in the 3 brackets. Senior- Jonathan Davis, Mason Butler, Wyatt Howard junior- boogie Cosper Freshman-Tristan Collier, Noah Watkins

We all know the TSSAA is a crap show, however, not sure whose bright idea it was to even use the 2 girls that couldn’t have been there for more than 3-4 days to begin with and had not actually moved to Cleveland. Let them practice with higher calling while they waited on the appeal for their school in Oklahoma to be completed and all their resident requirements to be completed. At that point they would have been eligible most likely for individuals. Of course that announcement only says one, so almost makes you wonder if it was someone else.
-
Yes, just read this on their Facebook page also. I still don’t understand why they did what they did, that team was going to win it without the Williams girls so I just don’t understand the reasoning of having them wrestle at the State duals and having any chance of it being taken away. Hopefully this was why Josh got suspended and he can get back to his usual duties.
-
I think the whole team took a step back, finished 27th and 1 AA isn’t going to get it done at a school like Iowa State. So either the team, coaches and wrestlers didn’t click or they had some overhyped wrestlers. I like David Taylor so I do hope he ends up at Okie State and Cody can AA his remaining years there.

Boone is a beautiful place, very nice campus and nice people to boot. I kind of wished UTC would drop to D2 and they would do well there. They don’t have the same alumni base and they are the little brothers to most of the other schools in the UT system, so with UT getting most of the states NIL budget and only being FCS in football, UTC would do best to drop. I mean plenty of basketball programs are doing so, heck, 2 that made NCAA tourney are announced to drop to D3 in sports due to the new money climate.
-
If you are good enough schools overlook a lot to take you(see any of the Ferrari’s and their traveling circus). I’m sure he will end up at like Okie State in the end.
-
That’s because they have about half the students and not near the NIL that a place like App State does. But in the end you still have to live in Boone NC and sorry AppVol, no reason to live in Boone or North Carolina in that regard! **also appvol**** I’m just giving you a hard time
-
Yep, we need less of these Tn boys jumping to other states! Hopefully keep some more home since it’s the only program in TN, GA, Florida, Bama.

If that gold was in college rules it would be different AND the fact Gable hadn’t wrestled college in a few years that to me makes this a little less of an upset over Gable and Larry, but as you said, not sure either was picked to lose, however Larry was just a sophomore when he beat Dan Gable and Dan Gable was undefeated for his entire career.
-
What condescending remark did he make, did he remove it? All I see is that he put facts out that TN wrestlers went 1-5 on the day, which is true and not everyone lives on Flo or Track to check the brackets. So it was nice to log on and see how everyone did. You get butthurt about it and bring some team in that has nothing to do with anything, very weird! Not like he singled out a school, Brenot and Roller didn’t go to Cleveland, neither did Flynn and Chittum went to McCallie for longer than he did Cleveland. congrats to the kids that made it, it is extremely hard to make NCAA tourney. Hopefully some can pull through conso’s and make it to AA status! Pulling for you all as well as those that wrestled for UTC!

The administration did have some parents that wanted this coach because he was an assistant coach for us. So they just brought up an assistant instead of going with the best coach. So yeah there were parents with the QB club that helped make that decision but they didn’t come to me for it. So in the end the money people helped make it that decision and it was a terrible one.
-
But it’s the parents/athletes that run all over administration that try to end up making the final decision. Im Not saying to keep them completely out of the situation, I’m talking about letting them make the decision. You end up having assistants that are great assistants being head coach and can’t manage the difference! Went through 3 coaching changes but thankfully my wrestling coach stayed the same throughout with Coach Henry! However if Steve had decided to hang it up while I was there I still would have been happy with whoever they named head coach, would have stayed with it and finished out my wrestling career. With football I did experience it, made an assistant the head coach and I lost my job at corner and quit week before season started and went to wrestling full time. Didn’t care if they asked me who I wanted or not, but they wanted continuity and we ended with a coach that somewhat sucked as a head coach and left a few years later. Seems a lot in the QB club wanted him as head coach since he had been assistant and the team went from perennial playoff team to not being. So I’ve seen the situation firsthand. Kind of wished I had never played football and stayed concentrating on wrestling as I would have been a lot better than the average wrestler I became. I wish them luck on their hire, it’s always good to have a good McCallie and Baylor team in the Chattanooga area!
-
And that’s how we end up with coaches in over their heads and getting fired after a few seasons and killing programs! Sorry, you might feel entitled to that and you of course have great kids, but the right coach can win at Baylor with or without your kids as long as they can run a good program! We have seen plenty of programs even up to college level football, where the players want a certain coach to take over as head and after 2-3 years the program sucks and the program is set back because they listened to their athletes! You might not like that, but programs can live for a long time with the right coach, your kids are just a tiny bit of that program for a few years.
-
I understand that to a point, but the school needs to make the best hire for the school itself, we have seen in all sports what happens when an administration ask the players or parents about an hire. Lots of times it ends up a crap show and a terrible hire. It’s why you should always try to pick a school because of a school and not a particular coach because in the end that can change in blink of an eye.

Yeah, Ashton and Trae won their conference, Cody finished 6th
