  1. Mavs convert on 3rd down with a really nice scramble, throw and catch. Next play was a REALLY nice throw and catch in good coverage to the pylon. AC 17 SH 14
  2. QB for AC overthrows his receiver or the wind got it to sail. They connect on 3rd down and go for it on 4th and 10. Pass hits the receiver in the hands but be drops it in the end zone. SH ball
  3. AC forces a 16 yard point and gets it at the SH 37. Holding, puts them in 1st and 20 at the 47. Wind has picked up a lot.
  4. SH QB walks into the end zone on 3rd and G from the 3. At the half it's SH 14 AC 10
  5. SH goes for it on 4th and short. QB leaps over the pile. 1st and G SH at the AC 7
  6. D Line for AC is eatting blocks but line backers are no where to be found if the runner gets past them. SH gashing AC on the ground.
  7. QB had a guy on the flat eide open for a 5 yard gain. He forced it into double coverage down field. Hit DB in both hands but he dropped it. Martinez takes the short yardage on that one. Next play AC connects for a gain inside the 5 on a nice pass to a wide pen open receiver. LaRue punches it in next play. AC 10 SH 7 5:51 2nd quarter
  8. Nick Moog on the sideline with a boot. Hadn't played tonight. AC looking... discombobulated. Only way I know how to put it.
  9. The original question was about which sport is the most physical, mental and emotionally challenging. I see you've lost the argument because you're focusing on message board participation. The question is settled, I don't care if you agree to disagree. Wrestling >football
  10. I like both sports, for different reasons and keep up with both on here. I am actively involved in both at the HS and youth levels. I just saw your comment about football being the most physically, emotionally and mentally challenging sport and responded. My initial comment probably was a bit snarky, no disrespect meant. We can agree to disagree. I stand by my informed opinion that football players think football is the toughest sport. Wrestlers know.
  11. Message boards participation means a sport is tougher now? Go ask HS kids that do both. That's where you're answer is.
  12. Day 1 wrestling practices/ tryouts have produced more basketball and football players than the reverse. Just ask any HS athlete that has done both. You'll get no argument about head injuries. Football players suffer more concussions, as evidenced by posters here. You can't blame anyone else. You're by yourself on the mat. The excuses in football... he missed his block, he held me, he ran the wrong route etc don't work. There are not 10 other guys you can blame. The only thing you get is what you earn.
  13. Literally every comment this guy makes is a troll attempt. Don't pay him any mind. He has insulted AC, Farragut, Carter, OR, Catholic, Bearden... it's a long list with nothing of substance.
  14. I assume that's someone connected to the program? What in my post history and topics would lead you to believe I am in any way connected. I'm significantly north of Sweetwater and mostly pay attention to other sports. No, that's not who I am.
  15. A small group of disgruntled parents . That's the reason. The local Advocate &Democrat newspaper has a pretty good write up on it. In 5 years he won 100 games. Won 4 of 5 district tournaments Had a team GPA of 3.4 or higher every year No kids failed a class. Small people from a small town with small minds ruin a good thing.
  16. Team is doing better than I expected. A few key transfers have helped. As always, keeping kids healthy for the season is huge. Not a lot of room for error with this crew. Lines will be about like last year. Still pretty good. A couple kids have stepped up, gotten better. Running backs are a bit less than last year due to Noes departure. We know Nick is good but he's coming off injury. He's a good kid, hope he does well. QB will drop some but not as much as thought. Current QB may have a much better arm than last years. Remains to be seen about football IQ. WR corp has depth but no established superstars. A couple really good ones could emerge. LB Corp will drop a bit. DB looks to be about the same. That's about all I know. With that said, it's still tough to replace as many as they have and the team identity and attitude will definitely be different. Will have to see how they come together.
  17. Just saw where Shannon was voted NWCA Tennessee coach of the year. Congrats to him and that program. It's great to see someone get recognized that you know runs a great program who wants to further the sport. My personal observation is that it's especially impressive that his champions, placers and overall team are all developed in house.
  18. I don't think so. We just run is similar circles. We'll probably see you guys this year at the end of the season though. First beer's on me.
  19. I like this post a lot Ocean. We're at a different place with our program and kids. Trying to establish and institute a culture change. On a smaller level, our kids that are working harder, wrestling more year round stuff, are having more success. You and I know that's what it takes, but the kids and parents have to see it and buy in. We are clawing our way up, trying to anyways.
  20. That was me. Point I'm trying to make is this. It's not just one thing, it's a combination. It's the Jimmy's and Joe's and X's and O's. It's hard work and a good system from top to bottom. It's a feeder program that gives a good foundation for what is taught at the HS level. Success breeds success and attracts the kids that are driven. Having facilities and equipment matter. Having the ability to travel and hit tournaments matters. Wrestling rewards experience more than any other sport. Many, probably most programs have only a few of those things, maybe just one or two. Cleveland is rare that they have all those things. None of it matters if there isn't work put in and they put it work. That's what I meant by taking a kid that's decent but willing to put in work, but in an average system. Or doesn't get many good matches cause they dont travel. Or doesn't get to practice as much because they don't have room or facilities. Or has average coaching. Or has average (or bad) practice partners. Put him (or her) in a complete program and they'll get better. It's that simple.
  21. Yet another thing we have in common Sid.
  22. I'll add this. Many schools don't even have a dedicated pace to practice in season. And a feeder program? Lol A feeder program needs a place to practice too. Those aren't available for free. If you want to run a summer program, you need a place to practice. Be it AAU or HS. Point is, having facilities is a major hurdle. Heck, it's a road block for most places. If you look at the consistent programs across the state, they have dedicated facilities. Halls, PF, Cleveland, BC... That's no coincidence. In this day and age you have to wrestle year round and have a solid feeder program to be a top team. You can't wrestle year round without a place to do it. Obviously that's only part of it. You have to have consistent coaching, a plan and a system in place. But let's not act like facilities and funding don't matter. They do. I know of one HS team that had to roll out/up mats in a cafeteria to hold practice. Every day. Forget about a summer program or availability for youth to use it. No amount of great coaching will overcome that.
  23. Really nice thread and idea for discussion. I'm mostly familiar with the eastern half of the state. I think DB is building something special up there. Wes may move up the list over the next couple years. Alex Cate at Maryville has done a nice job and they are consistently producing good wrestling at a football heavy school. I might have Sayne and Pittman higher since they've won titles. We'll see how Gibbs competes without having Halls to contend with. One of Shannon's former kids got AA status this year at UC (NAIA). We'll also see if Shannon can get his team to state in big school classification. I think he gets there, winning is another story. Ulrich is going to move up this list based on results for the foreseeable future. SD is in good shape, for a long run. There's some coaches and programs that could break into that level but they're not there yet. Not a lot to disagree with in your post though. Good job.
