  1. true but I think there has to be some kind of buy in.
  2. it might be wise to involve the parents and kids. if they don't, there wont be anyone left to coach.
  3. I think mawae has lost the team. this isn't the same team that played saraland and baylor to the wire.
  4. yeah it's easy to think the grass is always greener but this weekend reminded me of something that I did not love about him. love and respect the guy in a lot of ways but that kind of anger is not what I want directed at my kid. some folks tried to make it sound like I was soft when I said that one time but this isn't the marines.
  5. it's definitely not the most fun football season but I think everything will be just fine. I guess it will be what it will be and that will be fine. FWIW, there is no c of c, only a board of directors at the university. church of christ is not actually an organization. it's a bunch of individual churches who have the same name but do whatever the heck they want.
  6. swipes is correct. we just dont know our opponents as well. LA lost to another really good OOS opponent who just didnt have a great record. tough year for both schools.
  7. thur night antioch (3-4) at CPA (6-1) - fun non region match up. CPA takes this one. fri night knox catholic (4-2) at BA (1-6) - BA has to get another win. LA (2-4) at MBA (2-5) - i keep thinking LA is getting back on track but now im not sure. toss up. BGA (3-4) at FRA (7-0) - FRA is rolling to CPA I think. columbia academy (4-3) at NC (3-3) - nashville christian seems to be on a roll. ensworth (5-2) at father ryan (3-3) - toss up not the most interesting week so far. any others?
  8. LA has been using a service to find these OOS matchups I think. I know christian bros is a perennial top 100 or thereabouts so I dont think anyone is overlooking them. maybe like our record, there is a better team hiding underneath. should be a fun matchup!
  9. yeah might not be working out as well this year but hopefully things settle down soon.
  10. I was just trying to thoughtfully answer your questions and have a conversation and in no way meant to make anyone feel bad. you asked a question, I answered. that's it. you seem to have a strong opinion and I don't mind at all. but as a parent, if I can choose between a public school with good athletics and academics, it's nice to have the option for the same at a private school with the same cost. sounds fair to me and as you pointed out, it is a different division so no harm no foul.
  11. all athletes have to go through the admissions office same as other kids at a private schools. they are not supposed to contact the coaching staff first. many private schools have a coach working in admissions for this reason I think. anyway, I think they don't lead with financial aid in any case. to my knowledge, it's not an "offer" like in college.
  12. absolutely correct about this. however, I would say scholarships even the playing field between public and private because many kids go to school out their school zone and it costs little to nothing. they choose schools based on athletic and to some degree academic opportunities. private schools being able to make attending their school more affordable only levels the playing field for parents who want to consider all options. I think the recruiting that most successful schools are "legally" doing is twofold... 1. the kids talk amongst themselves on social media, at camps, etc. 2. success is attractive and is the best recruiting tool there is.
  13. not sure who you mean being butthurt. LA folks mostly are fine, I think. tav was our guy to begin with and is doing a great job plus he's a local kid. I think the team is better with him gone honestly. not happy about the drama though. outside of LA, folks are always looking to knock others down, me included. i am not sad that bama isn't doing great. : ) mostly sour grapes but notice since LA isn't doing so great, the noise has died down.
  14. thanks for the detailed post! I agree with y'all's assessments
  15. thanks. i guess i can see the wisdom in either path but a private school doing it is much different than a public, I think. in any case, no one asked me for my opinion either way! the nerve... I was getting bored with the games last year but dang the close loses have wrecking my nerves!
  16. you're preaching to the choir but if alcoa isn't doing it, no reason anyone else will/should do it. on the flip side, LA might be the example for why NOT to do it. you never know what the future holds and might not be able to handle the tougher competition for long. the decision was made well before dlifer left to play up and now the new staff is having to navigate some tough times. if LA were in D2-AA with a in state schedule like many schools, they were probably undefeated with a path to play CPA in the 4th championship game in a row. in the end, if someone wants to be kramer ruling his karate dojo, more power to them I guess.
  17. gotcha. BA, ensworth and LA are all playing up a division currently. I am not sure I have ever heard of a public school doing it though. not sure what benefit they would receive from it.
  18. why is this such a big deal to you? there are plenty of teams that could play up but dont and some of them are collecting gold balls like nobody's business. i believe PC hasn't won one since 97. it would make no sense for them to be like, well, thanks for all the fish we are going to 6A!
  19. but you didn't score in the 4th quarter, or 3rd, or 2nd. FRA rattled off 28 unanswered points, EN was 0-9 on 3rd down and had 35 yards rushing. east nashville is a great team and this was a fun game but FRA did dominate much of this game. plenty to build on but call it what it is.
  20. yeah the first half or so was like trading haymakers!
  21. can you explain the what you mean? I thought it was a great match up and east nash should be proud of their effort!
