The Question is WHY. It’s the only inner City school in JC. You cannot tell me they don’t have the athletes. They Always have great athletes. And lots of them since Spurrier’s time there. Heck their freshman team usually is better than a lot of 1A and 2A complete teams. I’m totally shocked. Especially in Basketball.

Well that’d be a great scenario for both programs. A lot of basketball left to play. And with the 1A schools anything is possible especially if a team has an injured playmaker. Good luck to both the Roan Mtn and Hampton girls the rest of the way.

I agree brother. Hampton definitely would have made more geographical sense. And apparently the Dogs are slightly better than the Landers atp. But who knows when it gets Real. It’s sorta sad to think that she’s the missing link on both teams weaknesses. And could be the missing piece to Gold. I’m just interested in bringing the Ball Home. No matter the team. But it is what it is. You just gotta play with what you got. Maybe it’ll work out for one team to at least make the State. Good Luck to Your Team.

Shoulda got Ramsey in the transfer portal before the season. She’s on a pathetic team. Could REALLY be dominant and show her talent on a good team like the Landers. Oh well. What could’ve been. .

I personally don’t think the inner City Kids are interested. Maybe a little bit more in football. But not basketball for some reason. Maybe the opportunities to just hang out with friends. Play a plethora of video games etc. Maybe some are just interested in making a little $ with a part time job. I don’t have the answer. But i Do Know that SH has Jr an Sr level athletes walking the halls who could make the Hill a tough opponent as usual. Apparently it’s trickled into the Middle Schools as Well. They need to hire a Coach who can “change the culture” from grade school up through Middle. Otherwise SH is going to continue to see these results for the not so seeable future I fear.

Well you do have a point there. This generation of teens and 20 something’s have Absolutely No Work Ethic. I did ask a local kid who’s 6’4” 300lbs and a Soph IF he played football. He said “naw the coaches ask me but I’d rather mow yards and make xtra money”. And he’s from a solid middle class family.

Thanks NonesFool. . It’s the i quit IF I’m not playing mentality. We’re seeing more and more of that not only in HS but the College Transfer Portal in College. Kids aren’t willing to work hard and sacrifice for an opportunity to play as a Senior in most instances. Maybe a kid a grade of a lower class who doesn’t start barring injury and won’t get on the court until the game is decided and decides to quit. And we’re seeing the Transfer Portal in HS as well. . Don’t kid yourself anyone who doesn’t believe me. Moore Co “inherited” a great HS Qb from THS about 4yrs ago who was behind an established kid that went D1 his last season. He knew his ONLY chance to play was the short trip to MC. They had an 11-2 season because of his talent. I don’t blame the kid or his parents but that’s always something we have to deal with. As for Kids just giving up the Sport is troubling to say the least. Just because they’re NOT starting NOW. Kids are different than when i grew up. First You were PROUD to Make the Team because a lot of Kids didn’t. They worked hard and REALLY WANTED to represent the School and wear the colors on Friday but ultimately weren’t talented enough. And 2nd you were excited to be a part of a team that represented your School and COMMUNITY. That’s all lost now with no School Spirit. Lazy Kids that’d rather NOT put in the Work to actually play any Sport. And esp IF they’re NOT starting, would rather hang with their friends playing video games and trying to get high or party. The last group of Quitters just say “I can make a couple hundred $ cutting grass on weekends and DON’T have to deal with 2 a day’s practicing Football. This generation of Kids are difficult to motivate to play sports at all. And equally difficult to stay in the program thru their Sr Season unless they have a future playing at the next level. There’s no WAY that SH doesn’t have 5 athletes who are Sr’s that aren’t playing Basketball that could at the very least make them a .500 team. Jus my take on it. I welcome any suggestions or comments.

How can SH be “young”. They’ve got almost 3,000 kids. Are kids just not interested in sports?

As for Alcoa I’m sure you’re awfully proud of a program with open enrollment gets all the best middle school athletes in a 30mi radius. Ask Greenback that has lost their best athletes over the years. Alcoa should join CAK and play private in the playoffs. Recruiting is Recruiting and based on the results you’re actually doing a better job of it than CAK . Whether you give a parent a job at the Aluminum Plant making 25$ an hr or you just pluck kids from the middle school ranks. Vince Lombardi couldn’t win 20 state championships with local kids in a school with less than 750. It’s impossible. But the TSSAA apparently doesn’t care to make sure kids go where they’re designated based on the city tax base. Alcoa’s tax payers are getting raped paying for all these athletes to come play football. The Alcoa Monopoly needs to be addressed and corrected. 8 straight championships? Give me a break. You’re playing with kids outta the city from adjoining communities and counties. It’s the Tri-County Allstar Team. Totally not fair to the rest of the public schools that play with kids that live in their community. I’m sure you’ll have some nonsense response. Like “You don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m not putting any money on Moore Co getting to the semi’s. I hope they do but i wasn’t awfully impressed with their squad last year. Besides the White Kid. Awfully small in the trenches and small receivers and D secondary. No dominant running backs other than White. It may be sorta a down season in 1A. But i think S Pitt has a ton of kids coming back on a pretty good team. I don’t see MC being nearly as good as them. Plus MASE returns about 14 starters. They didn’t play well against McKenzie but they’ve got a lot of athletes. I’m not convinced that MC beats City this year at home. Regardless I hope MC exceeds my expectations and makes it to the finals.

I’m hoping Moore Co lives up to the hype. They’ve got a great coach and fan base. Are they a legit 1A title contender. I sure hope so. But i think they’ve got an awful lot of holes to fill. Apparently with upcoming Jr’s. Most title teams are heavy with Sr’s. So these Jr’s need to be ready to step up. And IF White gets injured their done. I don’t think there’s a backup that can step in and fill his shoes.

I’m not so sure. Yes they have a lot of Jr’s returning but they were awfully soft on D and lose some key seniors. I think they’ll be as good as White can carry them. But unless they had a large Soph class that can step up and be awfully good. I don’t expect them to be much better than last year.

HS Teams have a better stadium than Finley? Seriously. Finley can easily seat 30K and has a great field and facilities. Not to mention easy access and parking. You talking about Moore Co? Maybe i need to come check out your stadium.

Well I’d hope that’s the case. Jus seems awfully fishy for 2 outstanding middle school athletes to “move” to Alcoa to go to HS. Has Alcoa got a track record of Rhodes Scholars. I highly doubt.

Well heck ya. . You lost 2 kids that start as Sophomores at ALCOA. That says an awful lot about how kids are free to move around. Probably need to do something about “open enrollment”. Where i live my niece couldn’t go to an elementary school that my aunt teaches because she wasn’t zoned for it. This is a City School with 5 K-5 schools. And both schools were less than 2mi apart. Where you LIVE needs to matter. It’s not fair to local taxpayers to pay to educate kids that don’t live in their community. My City won’t allow kids to pick an choose even the grade school they attend. Much less just go wherever they want without the parents moving. I’ve heard Alcoa fans say “can you blame a kid for wanting to play for a successful program”. Kids need to play where they live and are zoned. IF the parents want them to play somewhere else then Move. It’s that simple.
