MurphyCollege was down at the Appalachian having some rainbow trout and a couple Muddy Waters when a group was seated next to ol Murph. A couple of the group had on smoky bear t shirts so my ears perked up. I overheard that there was some parents and a couple long time fans discussing the upcoming season. Apparently the new hashtag is #JPMW. i.e. #JustProveMurphyWrong. If that motivates the players then I’m all for it. The fact is I support all the smoky bear players and coaches. In fact I watched a lot of the coaches play midget football beside aj lumber company. My only issue has been that a certain coach would rather take shirtless selfies than teach basic offense. I really hope LMAOc is teaching his QBs ( there’s more than one in the QB room) to point the front foot to where you want the ball to go, not where the receiver is. I really hope LMAOc is teaching the receivers to watch the DBs tendon on his ankle so he knows where the DB is going, and how to signal that to the QB to take advantage of the pre snap read. I really hope LMAOc is teaching his QBs( maryville fans rolling in their graves that eastgate has more QBs than freedman’s institute) to turn twist their hips when they throw the pigskin. But guess what coach T fans? MurphyCollege coaches the coaches too. Here’s some free advice for LMAOc. Before you take your shirt off to “honor” veterans, do some incline presses to develop the pectoralis major and get some separation from the chest to the stomach. And do some decline sit-ups with a weight plate held straight out to develop the abdomen muscles and the lower back. The men and women of the armed forces would appreciate some definition next time you take your shirt off on Memorial Day. I really hope that notsowise50 teaches the lineman to keep their back flat and sky the eyes when their hands grab the opponent. I really hope tlove13 teaches more than 5 reps to team 99 so they can play 4 quarters. I really hope ol Murph is eating crow come December. But the fact is you can’t cheat the process. You have to have a culture of fundamental football to put a steady competitive team on the football field year in and year out. To the blonde with 44Ds, big eyelashes, and simply southern t shirt eating duck breast on Bruce street, that was a coach t all star flirting with you. Go ahead and answer that inbox message. To the husband of said blonde go ahead and plan a guys weekend. Your “ol lady” will be visiting a double wide in wilhite and come home pigeon toed.

Sevier county is going the opposite direction and building junior highs to get the 9th graders out of the high school building. And you definitely get what you pay for. When did counties decide to build as cheap as possible? Some schools look like no expense spared, and now many are cookie cutter cheap as possible buildings.

From what I hear this could actually turn out to be an improvement for LC. I stand by earlier statement that when you hire someone from Alabama don’t be surprised when they make a bad decision.

I think the missing piece is something else Barney. Every year my youth league has a jamboree and used to I would always hear a couple parents brag about taking their kid to the qb school at maryville that lasted all week and how awesome Junior did and how much he learned and they thought for sure their kid’s team would win the English mountain Super Bowl. This past weekend I was calling different directors in the league and we were finalizing some rule changes for the upcoming season and one of the directors told me a parent in his community took his son to the maryville football camp and it was nothing but a 90 minute p.e. class. He said looked like coach had something else he’d rather be doing and all the kids did was basically run. Very little actual football instruction. If that youth camp has gone from a 5 day “qb school”to a 90 minute game of tag then I’m sure there’s a parallel to a drop off at the high school level. And I get it. It’s hard to balance 2 jobs. I have to protect and serve and lead a flock to stay on the straight and narrow. It’s tough juggling both but I live by the motto keep the main thing the main thing. Sounds like at freedman institute the main thing is 6% and supplement is when there’s no listings to show.

It’ll be a dern shame when 15 guys on the sideline running a Chinese fire drill lose their income because the young ball coach figured out that dividing 1 into 3 is more profitable than Xs and Os. Sometimes the side hustle becomes more important than the day job. The sevier county offense figured that out last year. Looks like freedman institute is figuring it out this year.

Sevier county is traveling 137 minutes just so they can duck wearwood (15 minutes) and Sutherland high ( 37 minutes). Or even arrowmont ( 26 minutes) for that matter.
