  1. Give me York, Huntingdon, Gatlinburg Pittman, and Westview I've got Westview and Huntingdon facing off in the finals. West TN basketball reigns supreme. (Side Note: is 2A easily the best overall classification of girls basketball in the state? I think you would be hard pressed to find as many quality teams across the board in any other classification in the state. Each of these teams has handled much larger schools and private schools throughout the year)
  2. Will they go back to 3 classes, probably not. I certainly like seeing more teams have opportunities with the four class system. However, there is no question that it has watered down the competition in late season games. The average margin of victory in the boys sectional games last night was 36 points. That is an insane number to me. It would be interesting to see the numbers year by year in region championship games and sectionals. Especially comparing big moves in TSSAA like 4 classes or the public/private split. I believe the average margin of victory in the girls sectional games was around 16 points. Crazy as well.
  3. I agree, great opportunity for somebody to step in and have immediate success. I am very interested to see who comes in. I've heard rumblings that the coaching move was made with a specific target in mind. Haven't heard who, but if they don't land their first choice, I would like to see the names that apply.
  4. South Central has become an absolute joke of an association. The game has passed most of those guys by. Not nearly enough young blood in that group of referees.
  5. There has to be a system of checks and balances, in football especially. The head coach is certainly important, but you have to look at the supporting staff around him and if something is off they should be the first to know. There is a big difference between being a good salesperson for yourself and the program versus being a straight up con man.
  6. Larry Helton is a good basketball coach. Lots of talent for sure, but youth still has to get experience and grit that only comes through being worked through the fire of playing games. This team will undoubtedly have a window of 4-5 years where the expectation should be state tournament but it's tough to do with Freshmen and Sophomores. I am interested to see who takes this job. There will be pressure to succeed immediately.
  7. This would be a great opportunity for a coach with all of the young up and coming talent in Linden. The Haston boy can flat out play. (His daddy is Kirk Haston who played for Bobby Knight at Indiana) They also have two younger coaches at the middle schools doing a great job of feeding the program. However, whoever they end up with will feel the pressure. They only hang banners for state championships in perry county.
