  1. Yea, it sounds like it was on his terms which is a good thing. He did a great job with the program in my opinion. It might just be symbolic of the fact that a lot of good young coaches aren't sticking with it like they used to. Coaching is a thankless occupation and all the issues coaches face have only gotten worse over the past few years. Might just be burned out.
  2. You called it. Kirk Haston is returning to the sideline. Pretty cool story when you think about him coaching his sons in the future. That team has a great chance to be a state contender here soon.
  3. Pushed. They don't understand that the Drew Maddux days are over. Now that privates are separate its a whole different ball game. Got to recruit better than other privates now instead of just thumping small public schools in 2A like they did when they were one of the premiere teams in the state.
  4. I just saw that. I am very surprised. That young coach was doing a good job with them. Was there something going on internally or another issue?
  5. Posting on the TSSAA portal is just a formality. They already know exactly who they want. Just waiting on his acceptance.
  6. Based on what we saw out of Upperman and how young they are, I would put them high on the list.
  7. Let's get it back at Vanderbilt like it was back in the day! lol
  8. Really sad that is the state high school basketball is in. Especially when you see teams from small communities playing with the kids they have like Santa Fe and then they’re forced to compete with cheaters. Best thing that needs to happen is for TSSAA to get blown up. I predict it will happen to NCAA sometime in the next 10-15 years and I think it could happen with TSSAA too.
  9. Yep. 4 classes has unfortunately watered down the quality of competition at the state tournament level. Only one game today was decided by single digits. 4 team districts, and 8 team regions mean that 25% (region champion and runner up, 2/8) of teams are getting to play in sectionals. Compare that back to when there were 3 classes. 8-9 team districts, regions were between 15-18 teams. With 4 classes we are getting matchups of the top 25% but with 3 classes only around 10% of teams made sectionals.
  10. Seems like he has a good thing at Loretto. Why leave?
  11. Anything can happen come tournament time.
  12. Who you got? Maryville vs Cookeville Bartlett vs Brentwood Morristown East vs Rossview Independence vs LaVergne Give me Cookeville, Bartlett, Rossville, and Independence
  13. Who you got? Creekwood vs Red Bank David Crockett vs Ridgeway Upperman vs Hume-Fogg Fayette-Ware vs Fulton Give me Creekwood, Ridgeway, Upperman, and Fulton
  14. Who you got? Chattanooga Prep vs Union City Santa Fe vs North Greene Gordonsville vs Middle College Jellico vs Frank Hughes Give me Chattanooga Prep, Santa Fe, Middle College, and Jellico
  15. Who do you got in the first round matchups for 2A? Hickman County vs Whites Creek Austin East vs Douglass East Nasvhille vs Alcoa Cannon County vs Ripley Give me Whites Creek, Douglas, Alcoa, and Ripley
  16. Wrong pick. Gibson County too good.
  17. Bottom half of bracket is probably the safest bet. Might take a flyer on creekwood. They are certainly not the most talented team at the glass house but they are really clicking right now/
  18. Give me the lady wildcats of Wayne County in this game and the next one. After three straight trips they finally get the job done.
  19. Agreed. Especially when you have teams traveling from so far away. No serious basketball game should be played at 9:30 AM.
  20. Is this question regarding my picks or my question about other classifications? I don't see a lot in person outside of my area, but on NFHS Network I enjoy checking in on teams that people claim are really good. Doesn't mean I am right or unbiased lol. Best part of basketball is that it's one game winner take all. I can't wait to see what happens!
  21. Agree with a lot of your points. There is a big need for proper training of officials. There needs to be some entity that takes this project on. It would be a worthwhile endeavor. It's tough because shortages don't allow you to be picky. But I know for a fact, some of those officials have never even played basketball before. There has to be some form of fundamental, baseline knowledge to officiate.
  22. Thanks for putting that pertinent info on this girls basketballl thread
  23. Down in comparison to what? Which perennial powers are you referring to? I feel like as coaches and players continue to be more transient (wrong or right, it is what happens) there is naturally going to be more ebb and flow to who is up and down. Overall, I think splitting private and public, has dramatically impacted the overall talent pool. Whereas before, privates held such an advantage over public schools, now they are having to compete with people on a more level field. In my opinion, this has really raised the overall level of private school basketball. Lots of fun teams to watch. Public has some good teams too, but I agree that overall it seems down.
  24. I believe that it is truly a blind draw. I think if they wanted certain matchups to create big gates then the brackets would look different. If the point of the state tournament is to truly determine the best team in the state, then I think it makes sense to have automatic slots based on geographic area. It's possible (and has happened before recently) where the top two teams in the state very well could be in the same district. Having two teams from a similar geographic area on separate sides of the bracket makes sense to me.
