  1. Memphis Elite-Daniels edged out Memphis Elite-Little in the Division 1 11th grade Divison to secure the State Title and Southeastern Region #2 National AAU Seed. (92 - 87) Memphis Elite-Daniels Roster: Danielle Ballard 5'9" Memphis Central (JR) Destiny James 5'8" Bartlett (JR) Kelsey Briggs 6'1" Munford (SO) Lauren Douglas 6'3" Briarcrest (JR) Tiara Caldwell 6'3" Millington (SO) Maddison Luckett 6'0" St. Benedict (SO) KeKe Patterson 5'7" Columbus,MS (SO) Teresa Mays 5'7" Woodale (SO) Alicia Payne 5'7" Whitestation (JR) Ayanna Muhammad 5'6" Ridgeway (SO)
  2. Southwind has a nice group of young talent and now a good coach. It will be interesting to see how they contend in the District. Coach Gat left a post oriented team and now has a guard oriented team with multiple shooters and solid ball handlers. I think they will definetly contend for the District and make some real noise in their Region.
  3. Congrats ladies...... All "GREAT" players...... Continue to work hard no matter what the "EXPERTS" rank you.....(and i use the word experts loosely).... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  4. Congrats Coach "M" and good luck to UTM......
  5. Congrats JJ - the only BBall Player (girls or boys) to recieve the award three times...... On to the next level... /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  6. Does she play for S'ville? What position?
  7. I am surprised that Jasmine Newsom out of Millington wasn't named to the team. /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />
  8. I agree that it does NOT need to be divided but i thought it was last year....???? Congrats to all.....
  9. Is Division II not broken down into DII-A (small) and DII-AA (large)....???
  10. Very very disappointing that the actual WEST was not represented. Some of the players (as mentioned in the previous post) were called the night before.(Good players but not West players)... I was told that you have to be a TACA member to nominate players. There were a LOT of top notch West players not in attendance. Adrienne Pratcher - Texas A&M, Candis Clear - Carlson Newman, Ashley Robinson - Univ Of Memphis, Sarah Watkins - Univ Of Arkansas out of the West were listed on the T-Shirts but did not attend. You add those players and you got a REAL game. However, I will say that the event was 1st class and the staff should be commended on doing a great job! How can you ensure that players show up??????? (Or at least have a confirmation deadline and a reserve roster available) Additionally, how can you ensure that you get the top players (even if the coach isn't a member of TACA and doesn't nominate the player). Heck: Memphis Central (West) has 3 D1 senior signees and not one of them were invited. Erica Burgess - Southeastern Louisiana, Jasmine Taylor - Arkansas State and Jamila Ajanaku - MTSU. My goodness - they were in the AAA state finals....... The East team had a D1 player on the floor at EVERY position and several coming off the bench. Really lopsided roster...... BUT it was fun to watch..... /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  11. Just curious: There is already a "statewide" East -vs- West Boys and Girls All Star game this weekend in Nashville. Why have another seperate event?????? /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> TENNESSEE ATHLETIC COACHES ASSOCIATION TACA All Star Weekend Trevecca Nazarene University March 26-28
  12. West All-Star Team: (top row left to right) Coach Wanda Jones (Memphis East High School) #3 Jasmine James-Bartlett (University of Georgia), #5 Ashley Robinson-Millington Central (University of Memphis), #1 Charnera Macklin-Memphis East, #30 Komiko Williams-Clarksville Northeast (University of Tennessee), #2 Asia Gibson-Fayette Ware (University of SE Louisiana). (Bottom Row left to Right) #11 Constance King-Crockett County, #4 Candice Clear-Memphis East (Carson-Newman), #10 Briana Holt-McNairy Central, #22 Kristin Majors-Clarksville, #13 Julianne Downs-Harpeth Hall. The state of Tennessee will be represented very well by the class of 2009 across the country at various levels of college basketball. I think this is a very special class and one to be remembered for many years to come. Congratulations to all of the young ladies and good luck at the next level.
  13. My heart says all Memphis final, but my basketball IQ makes me lean toward a Memphis Central -vs- Hillsboro final. At that point it will be anybody's game. I do expect two double digit wins today: Memphis Central and Hillsboro. However: i will be pulling for BOTH Memphis teams. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> Good luck to all...... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  14. It is an honor for JJ (or any player) to be mentioned in the same sentence as the Collierville, Tennessee, Olympic, WNBA great Nikki McCray. She was absolutely awesome on all levels of her career. Nikki has acted as a mentor for JJ over the past three years and actually helped to relieve a lot of stress from JJ during the recruiting process. Nikki was a wonderful player and is equally a wonderful person...... I watched her get her jersey retired at C??™ville and she took the time to talk and engage all of the fans. Award or no award: JJ has been blessed to play with and against some great players from Shelby County and across the state??¦.. in addition she has had the opportunity to meet wonderful parents and high school coaches??¦. Thanks Dragon??¦??¦. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  15. Awwwww! /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  16. Central rotation was as follows: 5 players 28+ minutes (one player 32 minutes) 1 other player played 13 minutes 2 players played 3 minutes 6 minutes. Which brings me back to what I have said over the past ???umpteen??? years. When games get really tough ??“ teams will reduce their rotation to 7 or 8. PERIOD!!!!! Ideally: one guard off the bench, one post off the bench and one wing. However, realistically you won??™t have all three spots covered so one of those bench positions may be fielded by one player who can play multiple positions (example: a guard may come off the bench and play the forward position as well). A team is can easily win three high school games in a row with a 7 player rotation. Heck: the games are only 32 minutes WITHOUT a shot clock. Additionally: the two players who played 3 and 6 minutes served their purpose. They are just as important and vital as any member of the team. Those player??™s roles are (more than likely) to come in and provide a breather for the starters and to MAINTAIN the teams current position in the game. Those two players don??™t have to come in and light up the scoreboard (that would be a bonus). They just have to hold serve until the starters get a rest and return fresh.
  17. Another good post and good letter..... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  18. SOS means VERY LITTLE.... It's all about matchups and desire... Who you played close in the early season helps in your preparation but doesn't mean much now. ALL the teams are good and all of them are prepared. AND surely - if a team has made it this far - they have played some decent level of competition to get to this point.
  19. I said at the start of the year: Gibson County will win it all..... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> My other teams to watch was Westview and Marshall County(which i know Marshall County is out /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> )
  20. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Memphis Central steps up to the plate......
  21. All the heat is in the WEST this year! This could be an all Memphis Final..... Hillsboro is the only other team i see beating one of the Memphis Teams! Congrats Memphis Overton. Come on Memphis Central....... Rep West TN! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Memphis Central by +15......
  22. My apologizes, my apologizes, my apologizes! Although, I still don??™t get it! /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> I didn??™t mean any harm??¦??¦ I thought the post was to illustrate the difference in records and district etc etc etc??¦??¦. I totally missed that one (actually I am still missing it). Anyway: again my apologizes Dragonmaster! I don??™t know if I could actually do politics Philtenn?????? But if I did: I could think of a pretty good running mate (guess who?)??¦.. hehehe /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  23. James or Hassell...... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> James' stat line for this past year.....
