  1. I really believe if Jarvis Jones, the left handed sophmore would have played against Liberty, Mitchell would have won the game by at least 8 points.
  2. My prayers are with him, and I hope he gets back to full strength.
  3. Did any body else besides Thad Young play good for Mitchell?
  4. You could not have said that any better.
  5. Yeah it was a good game, but I will tell you this much it should not have ended that way. The run down: Halfway through the first quarter point guard Cager goes off on the coach and waves him off (as if to say I'm not thinking about you) Mitchell is down by 8pts. So he pulls Cager out inserts Ken Torry(10th grade) at the same time he pulls out Thornton and Junile Earvin and puts in Jarvis Jones and Najul Earvin. Mitchell goes back and fourth rotating from a man to man defense and a 2-3 ZONE. Ken and Jarvis a causing havoc on the court as far as causing Hamilton Guards to turn the ball over. They are diving on the floor and getting steals. Jarvis hits 2 quick 3's and got 4 or 5 steals and also 4 assist. Ken Torry get 17 points 4 steals and 8 assist. Najule Earvin made some big plays and grabbed some key rebounds, all of the is just halfway through the 1st quarter and all of the 2nd quarter. At the half Mitchell goes into the locker room with all the momentum and Hamilton looks dazed and confused. Will someone tell me Why the Mitchell coach would look at Cager and say I'm going to give you one more chance to play and put the kid back in the game after he displayed such a horrible attitude and disregard for the coach and his backup, Ken Torry was playing much better than him. Ken Torry 17pts 4steals and 8 assist and Jarvis Jones 6pts 4 or 5 steals and 4 assist did not even play the second half of the game and neither one of them was in foul trouble. Will some one tell me why they were not in the game when they gave they team such a boost in the first half. THEY SAT ON THE BENCH THE WHOLE SECOND HALF. People are going to try to say Mitchell missed alot of free throws and got out rebounded and yes they did miss alot of free throws and yes they did get out rebounded, BUT THEY ALWAYS MISS ALOT OF FREE THROWS AND YES AS TALL AS THEY ARE AND WITH THEIR 5 DIV 1 SIGNEES THEY ALWAYS GET OUT REBOUNDED. But nobody brings that up when they are blowing people out the gym. So don't try to say that is why they lost. Plain and simple they lost because of Extremely Poor, Poor coaching. He got away from the lineup that was working and started pressing and Hamilton was breaking the press as all of the good teams do when they play Mitchell and getting easy lay-ups and dunks and Mitchell's coach did not go back into man 2 man or the 2-3 zone that was working for him in the first half. I felt so bad for those 2 10th graders on Mitchell team that after the game I had to find them and let them know that I enjoyed watching them play and that they did what the were supposed to do when they got in the game and them not playing in the second half was not anything that the did wrong or could control, And the thing that pi**ed me off the most was that the Coach kept looking at them as if he wanted to put them in the game but he never did and He even sent Ken Torry to the scorers table and called him back to the bench. Mitchell's Coach also had the Police to put a fan out of the game because the fan was yelling go back into the zone or play man to man. I guess the truth hurt, so rather than adhere to the truth he had the fan put out of the gym, saying that he was a distraction to his team. Last year he told the team at Haywood that they were going to live or die with the press and I guess he is going by the same philosphy this year to. And just like last year that philosphy will not get them past the substate again. And to Hamilton, my hat goes off to all of the players and Coaches. You guys played a very good game and you guys deserved to win. Congradulations to you guys and good luck bringing the gold ball back to Memphis because Mitchell certainly won't being doing it. And go Beat Bolivar tommorow.
  6. After seeing the game Mitchell against Fairley Friday night I would have to agree with the coaching part. Because Andre Thornton could not be contained on the inside and they stopped throwing the ball on the inside to him and from what I've see in the last 4 games (Hamilton, Fairley twice, and Kirby) If not for Jones and #23 Fairley would have won the first time) The sophmore Jarvis Jones does not get enough touches of the ball on Offense. The kid had 15 points at half time of Fairley game and he only played the last minute of the 1st quarter and half of the second quarter. After the second quarter he did not see the floor until the last 2 minutes of the game he finished with 17 or 18 points. Now I'm not one to bash anybody but I watch the game from start to finish. But in the second quarter the coach went with all guards and they were down by fifteen and went into half time down by two. Any body with a knowledge for what was working would have stayed with the 5 you had before the break. But the coach came back with the starters who he had replaced 3 of them with the subs because they were ineffective in the first place. So to start the 3rd quarter Fairley went up by fifteen. At this time Thad and the Hurt Ervin brother decide they the are not going to let there team lose so they get dressed and enter the game. Needless to say they were both INJURED ALREADY and heavily taped around the ankles very poor decision making on the coach's part. I truly believe if he would've stayed with the group that played the second quarter they probably would have won. Brandon Powell is one overated player. He can shoot the heck out of the ball but only plays defense when he wants to. And out of all the kids on that team the only three players that are willing to get floor burns and dive for loose balls are Jarvis Jones and the other 10th grader #23 (I don't know his name Galilee could you help me out) and Thad Young. The rest of those guys most notably the seniors just stand around and look like they are to pretty to out hustle the other team. Sometimes a game comes down to who wants it more and who makes the most hustle plays and plays with the most heart. The three players I previously mentioned are the only 3 that will even attempted to make hustle plays like that. Back to coaching why would you even try to play a zone against Fairley (A team known for holding the ball once they get a lead) When you are down by 8 with like a minute in a half left in the game. (My guess is so a HURT Thad and Earvin Brother #2 could be effective with their long arms and not have to be as mobile if they were playing man to man defense) Any other time Mitchell would be pressing. This is a team that press from start to finish and half court trap even when they are beating and team by 40 or 50 points. But you decide to go to a zone defense when you are down at the end. When a player is hot (in the case with Jones you stay with him unless he gets in foul trouble which I don't think he was and You go inside to your big man unless someone stops him) It would not Suprise me if Mitchell does not make the trip to the State, Unless they are spectators. YOU HEARD IT FROM ME FIRST !!!
  7. Yes Kirby Beat Mitchell, but Thad and one of the Ervin brothers got hurt. Got beat by one point.
  8. Jarvis Jones 6''2 Sophmore from Memphis Mitchell and Brandon Powell 6''4 Senior from Memphis Mitchell they can really stroke it and when they are on at the same time it is a thing of beauty. Jones won the 3pt contest at the Arkansas Rumble on the Ridge Brandon Powell came in 3RD PLACE but at one point he put up 16 straight 3's and Jones was just 3 shy of the Ridge record.
  9. Boliver will beat them by 15 or more. The 7ft3 kid is no where as good as people think(To slow and weak). Wayne Chism should man handle him in the post and he is to slow to come out and guard Wayne off the dribble. "Yes Wayne Chism can put the ball on the floor well enough to get past Bennet". Mr. Kemp will exploit that matchup in the paint because he is the smartest point guard in the nation other than that kid headed to Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Don't forget about sophmore Jeremy Rhodes.
  10. I was told that Jones also won the 3 point contest is that True
  11. Mitchell plays Seigal at 10:00 am at Liberty
  12. Mitchell will be playing Haywood Nov. 10th and Raleigh Egpyt Nov. 15th Also playing in the Playday at Liberty Tech Nov. 12th
  13. Mitchell vs Hamilton back to back Saturdays Nov. 19 and Nov.26
  14. The Y did not show up for unknown reasons but the Angels won the tournament (a 16 and under tournament) with a great team effort because a different player seems to step up on any given night. Kaylen Durham and Eric Buggs (White Station) and Darryl Neal (Melrose),Lewis McCaster( Mitchell) made the all tournament team while Jarvis Jones of Mitchell was the Tournament MVP with 27 points in the Championship game.
  15. Team Angels 15's play against Memphis YOMCA 15's Saturday, June 18 at noon at Kirby High School in Memphis. This is being dubbed the battle of Memphis. The Y is led by Jason Jones and Derrick Mason of Ridgeway and also Tim Ware of Memphis BTW, while the Angels are led by Eric Buggs and Kaylen Durham of White Station and also Jarvis Jones of Memphis Mitchell and Malcolm Burton of Ridgeway. this will be one great battle.
  16. Team Angels has Lawrence Bowers a 6''7 kid that can play inside and out from Elliston Baptist 6'2 Jarvis Jones from Mitchell High 5'10 Eric Buggs from White Station 5'10 Malcolm Burton from Ridgeway 6'5 Darryl Neal from Melrose 6'4 Kaylen Durham from White Station 6'6 Lewis McCaster from Mitchell High -baby Shaq! all are names to remember from Memphis and 2 kids from Earle Arkansas that can really play in 6''3 Steve Meridith (very versatile athlete) and 6'2 Daniel Hurst.
  17. Has anyone heard of Team Angels because I've heard alot of talk about this group but haven't seen them play yet.
  18. Mitchell has a kid name Jarvis Jones that was the only 9th grader on the varsity team and put up 23pts and 9 assist a game on the JV team. Look for him to get major minutes on a senior loaded team next year. You can add him to those shooters that Mitchell puts on the floor, and when he gets hot water can't cool him off this kids scored 15pts in a 2 minute span during the district tournament. He gets overlooked playing behind Thad, BPowell, and Chill Thornton, and he also sees the floor extremely well for a 9th grader. This kid has also started dunking and will try to make a poster out of you.
