  1. DEFENSE will be the key to Lawrence County's success. Or, it has been to this point in the season. Looking back at the scores, I noticed we lost only one game this year when we held our opponent under 50 (Lincoln County with 48). However, ten of our 14 wins have come with us scoring 50 or under. So, it stands to reason, we don't score a lot so we better keep the other team from scoring. The other factor is a very methodical offense (almost Princeton style) that shortens the game so fewer points are scored. While I love this type of ball movement offense, it can get you in trouble if you can't quickly score points when the clock is against you. So, who do we draw first round ..... you guessed it, Lincoln Co. (see above) If you wager on this game, better stick to the over/under and by all means go with the under HOOPS TO YA!!!!!!!! kw
  2. Well, looks like you are coming to our place and that will help us a lot. We barely got by y'all here and you took us behind the wood shed at your place so this should be a great game. Don't forget the polish sausage at the baseball stand on the east side of the gym. Good luck and drive safe!!! HOOPS TO YA!!!!!!!!!! kw
  3. That is good stuff!!! I thought for a minute that I was reading a Bear Bryant clip from 1976. Ain't nobody with any sense thinking this is gonna be easy. There could be some good match ups though. GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE TEAMS!!! and HOOPS TO YA!!!!!!!! kw
  4. Summertown!!! That is the way you spell DEFENSE!!!!!!!!! HOOPS TO YA!!!!!!! kw
  5. Uh Oh!!!!! That ain't good for my team When will we know for sure??? CoachT???? kw
  6. Please make it a regular for next season (assuming it is not already). This really helps on off nights when you can pick up another game in your area. Like, I had no idea that Forrest was at Summertown tonight. I could have made two nights in a row at the First Church of Defense, but alas, it is smoochy night and my honey is the one thing more important to me than Basketball GOOD JOB!!!!!!!! kw
  7. Well, the regular season is over Time to own up to my preseason prognostications. Here is my preseason post from Nov. 29th: As I say every year, " Opinions are like skunks, the woods are full of them and most all of them stink" But, with that having been said, here goes my shot at stinking up the joint. (1) Columbia ( I have seen them a couple of times and I like how this team moves. I like how this coach coaches (Aggressive but Smart) Assuming "The Lamp" comes back strong, they should make it to "The Boro") (2) Shelbyville ( Injuries are playing a role now and may for most of the season but I think the other players on this team are learning quick. I like this coach. He ain't the "Lil General", but he can coach.) (3) Franklin County (Bet that got your attention! Hey folks, I know first hand that John Wild can coach and I also know first hand that these girls are no stranger to work (AAU teams). That makes for a winning combo and I expect to be able to pick them higher next year.) (4) Lincoln County ( I know most people see them as a two or three, but what I have seen so far does not make me think they are good enough early enough to finish higher than four. Can't beat their coach, but coach can't play. Now if that ain't locker room wall material I don't know what is. Yep, it's a challenge, but so is this district. Prove me wrong and have a good time doing it) (5/6) Toss up between Coffee County and my team LAWRENCE COUNTY. I have not seen Coffee county this season but based on what I see on the scoreboard, I think they are undefeated as I write this. Lawrence County is so thin you can see through them but you can't beat this group when it comes to heart. They have beat some good teams like Jackson County and B.A. If we have no injuries and everyone stays on the same page I think we could finish higher but I am writing using my pea brain of a head and not my heart. I will say this, any team that overlooks us will have only themselves to blame for the big (L) on their schedule. A thin hungry cat is a dangerous animal. (7) Tullahoma (This is a mystery to me and I ain't Sherlock, enough said) So, let's see. I got one and two turned around. Got three right. Look who ended up in fourth (my team) I had them at 5th or 6th preseason. Looks like I had six and seven semi right. I think with my power as a prognosticator and a nickle I could probably get a piece of bubble gum GOOD LUCK 8AAA!!!!!!!! p.s. Thanks to Shootmore for the poll. Looks like it got a few hits. kw
  8. ShootMore: Thanks for the standings. Are you sure of the tourney seeding? HOOPS TO YA!!!! kw
  9. BanjoDr .... Can you give us your thoughts about tonights game at Lincoln Co. ??? Don't let the girls forget the perils of the road!! Good Luck!!! HOOPS TO YA!!!!!!!! kw
  10. ((A) Just give me a team of Abbys and I will beat anyone. What a great player and young lady. I would vote for her any day, but being a sophomore will not help her cause. This most likely goes to Alicia Weatherly. (AA) Jana Cross is my favorite here and everything I said about Abby applies to Jana as well. I see young people like these two and feel so much better about our future. They can lead off the court as well as on. Brandi Brown most likely takes this award, and she can shoot , make no mistake about that. (AAA) Really thought this would be Ree Ree's year, but no such luck with the foot. Lord willing, she will be full strength next year and the state will see what she can really do!!! This year, it will be Pickle. kw
  11. MtJBears, I'll bet some money on Shelbyville making it out of the district. After tonight, they will have made it out or be a victory over Tullahoma away from making it out. Yep, I like their chances I think they make it back to "The Boro". Hoops To Ya!!!!! kw
  12. We only had one senior last year and we lost 9!!! Never count the chickens, unless you are at Kroger But, you are right, all things being equal, we should be competitive again next year. I also expect Coffee Co., Franklin Co. and Tullahoma to be better next year. Actually, 8AAA might be even more balanced next year than this year if that is possible. It should be fun again!!! Already dreading the wait till Summer Camp HOOPS TO YA!!!!!!!! kw
  13. Don't see the scores??? Did they play ??? kw
  14. I would make sure it is a friend Had a situation the other night, where a fan behind me (we were both cheering for the same team) could not understand why the ref was not calling 5 seconds on the opposing offense. I looked and saw no defensive player within 15 feet of her ??? The fan continued to yell 5 seconds at the ref and I turned and mentioned that there were no longer any time hash marks on the court and as long as we were not guarding her closely, there was no call to make. I too wish we still had those hash marks to force the action, but I'm afraid they are gone for ever Anyway, my wife told me after the game that if she had been the other fan, I would not have left the gym alive She seemed to think that other fans are best left to whatever they want to think and they did not buy their ticket to hear me give my version of the rules. Next time I will stay quite....... well until my wife is gone to the little girls room HOOPS TO YA!!!!!!! kw
  15. Well, they (the kids) get this stuff off of TV (college games). They see no shirts, face and body paint, signs, screaming vulgarities etc... and think that is the way they should act since they will be in college soon Since it is a school function, the administration should get involved if something is going against school rules, but if they are within school rules, codes of conduct etc... then I say let them have fun. All this distraction is what makes a lot of home courts a distinct advantage and that is just part of the game. It's hard, but I remember being young and I loved this stuff. On the other hand, I would like to see a little creativity on the students part. It's a lot more fun than the monkey see monkey do stuff you see everywhere. I remember the first time I saw a team ignored during pregame by everyone in the stands reading a paper and paying no attention until they erupted at their teams introduction. I thought that was the greatest, but alas, it got old. So, we need todays students to put their minds to work and come up with some new stuff. After all, it is tourney time!!!!! HOOPS TO YA!!!! kw
  16. Hey, that's John Frum day!!! Surely they won't flip a coin on such holy day. John Frum?????? Look it up. Try Google for best results HOOPS TO YA!!!!!!!!! kw
  17. What a milestone!!! EM, I could not be more proud for you. Keep up the hard work and lead on girl LEAD ON!!!!!!!!!! HOOPS TO YA!!!!!! kw
  18. They are both Great Teams and Great schools and I am so very proud to say they are both located in my county. How about two gold balls this year .......... sounds GREAT to me. GOOD LUCK TO BOTH SCHOOLS IN THE TOURNEY!!!!! and .............. HOOPS TO YA!!!!!!!!!! kw
  19. After last nights games, I am more convinced than ever that the home floor in this district is worth from ten to twelve points. Looks like Franklin Co. has the inside track for third and we (Lawrence Co.) have got a good shot at fourth but if anyone slips up Friday we could still end up with a three way tie for third. If Lawrence Co. can just make it back home for the first round, then that's where we stay until it's over. And folks, "There's no place like home" especially in 8AAA GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE 8AAA TEAMS AND DON'T FORGET THE POLISH SAUSAGE AT THE BASEBALL STAND ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE GYM!!!!!!!!! HOOPS TO YA!!!!!!!! kw
  20. If coach Moore had not pulled the press off, there is no telling how bad out of hand the score would have been. Certainly was bad enough, but it was nice of her to pull them off as soon as she did. I am not sure why, but as good as our defense was when we (L.C.H.S.) played Columbia at home, it was that bad tonight. Seems we were never within three feet of the shooter on the treys and there were a lot of them. We have got to get over the last couple of weeks and get back to playing like we were early on. Good luck to both teams in the tourney. HOOPS TO YA!!!!! kw
  21. Not sure about how to take the reply??? Are you with me or against my opinion??? THANKS kw
  22. PHargis Trust me, no respect is due . I don't live my life through my kid, I live it for my family!!! I remember my Dad talking about those long walks to school, but I got by without having to go through that You are right about one thing, this is a different time and athletes (I was never one) are not what they once were. I think kids are bigger and quicker and better now than they were when I was young. The bigger part is just evolution, but the better part is from more work (like year round). Also, I must admit, that when I was young, there was no AAU that I knew anything about so Summer was pretty much off time from Basketball. I know from our previous conversations we just don't agree on much about this subject, but I do respect your opinion because as you said, you have been there and done that, and while I played at a couple of sports, I really never was heart and soul into any of them as a player. I really don't live in the past, I did not have this opinion five years ago until I had a daughter that wanted to play ball and we found out at age 11 we were two years behind the ones that started on time. If you want to compete at a high level in this day and time, you have got to get after it year round. Like yours, just my opinion. HOOPS TO YA!!!!! kw
  23. We have had 10 players leave the team in the past year. Of these 10, 3 were starters last year and in my opinion 6 or 7 of the 10 could have played important minutes this year thus giving us depth we don't have now. Of the 3 starters that left, 2 of them are starters for AAA teams that are currently in first place in their districts. The other starter a senior, remains at L.C.H.S and is not playing ball. Add to this that we have lost 3 assistant coaches in the past year for one reason or the other and you can see what a battle the L.C.H.S. ladies have been through and yet they are currently in third place in the district. One of their wins was over a first place district team. These women are not walking through the district, they are hacking their way through it with machetes. Every game is a challenge and a war and they win the most of them. There is not enough that can be said for this team. Heart, determination, zeal, guts, love of the game and a very strong desire to win only starts to describe what these ladies are made of. As far as what could have been, I don't know if it is good to even think about that anymore, but I do about 60% of the time all the time As far as I remember, there are no strolls through 8AAA for anyone, but our journey this year and for the next two could have been much more like a picnic than a war. But, if it must be war, then let's get it on!!!!!!!!!! Go Cat Go!!!!!!!!!! HOOPS TO YA!!!!! kw
  24. More money is not the answer to most problems although I am for paying anyone the most possible for their work (don't care what the profession). It's like my boss coming to me and saying " Would you do a better job for more money?" If I answer yes then he can come to only one conclusion. I am not doing the best I can and I should either start doing the best I can or hit the door, right??? I think the TSSAA needs a real recruiting campaign to get young people interested in taking up officiating as a part time job and some of them will be good ones and some will need to be weeded out and when you finally have enough good young ones you start weeding out the old bad ones until you have overall good crews state wide. This like most things worth doing will not happen over night. But my friend, it's high time we started. HOOPS TO YA!!!!!!! kw
  25. Put me in coach!!!!! I'm 51, fat and never was a good player, but I would bust my butt for you. You stated life as I remember it. Great Post!!!! HOOPS TO YA!!!!!!!! kw
