  1. Home plate does not declare the ball foul. Home plate and all bags are completely in fair territory. And yes a ball can be considered fair while it is moving. A ball can hit the mound and be deflected and ruled a foul ball because the mound is not 90 feet away from the plate. An imaginary line is drawn from 1st to 3rd that declares that line. True, true, true. Good post. Good to see someone else studies before posting.
  2. 100% correct. Fly ball is fair immediately when it first touches the ground in fair territory past the bag. It doesn't matter what happens after that.
  3. Terry Penalton rules? I guess I've never heard of those rules. They must be like AABC, USYBA, USSSA, USBPA, Dixie Youth League, and all of the other league and associations that aren't TSSAA which use NFHS standards and rules. Again, when you are governed by NFHS those are the rules you must use. Go figure. Crazy world, huh? I guess by your method, we'd have, let's see, how many umpires are registered under TSSAA? That's how many sets of rules we would have. Nuff said!
  4. Wrong again. Continue to do what you've always done, and you'll continue to be what you've always been. I guarantee you can't reference any rule in any book that supports what you claim. If you can, I'll turn in all of my equipment and never attend another baseball game. Bottom line: What rules are you "quoting"?
  5. Again, making a point in the pregame is not and can not be considered a team warning.
  6. So true. Pretty simple really. "If" the team had been warned previously, the kid should have been ejected not called out. The ruling is similar when a team gets warned for a batter slinging the bat. Assuming a subsequent batter slings the bat and then reaches base safely, he is ejected not out. A legal sub must be inserted to run as a pinch runner for him.
  7. What? Now were supposed to overturn or ignore the rule but only after we ID them? Get real! I guess basketball players can smoke while there on the bench, too! What rules are you looking at? Good post PurpleGrad!
  8. That's silly now. Tobacco possession is illegal for anyone under 18. How could you "allow" it for high school athletes? We know that a lot do it, but to ignore it would be like approving it.
  9. Very likely, however, the rule is an ejection not an out.
  10. TSSAA does not allow for protests. A coach can ask for it all he wants, but that doesn't matter. The only avenue for a coach is to contact the TSSAA on the next business day and explain the situation. They will decide what, if anything, will be done. You are correct on the ejection/out situation, however. While the rule calls for an ejection and not an out for subsequent actions after a team warning has been issued, many youth tournaments implement the rule that an out is called. The reason is that many youth teams commonly only have nine or ten players. If they have only nine and one is ejected, they can't continue with eight. They can only continue with eight if one was lost due to injury or illness or non-game related issues.
  11. Actually I've never missed a state or local meeting. Furthermore, I've never missed or local or state clinic. And yes, there is a warning for profanity. Profanity used loadly enough for fans to hear does not get a warning, however. We have been told that other "mildly" profane words not used directly toward us can be warned. For example, if a player boots a ground ball and mumbles "d*** it", that is not something we have been instructed to eject for. Any other questions?
  12. That's not the rule. Covering an issue during the pregame does not establish a team warning. If that was the case, we would warn for throwing the bat, profanity, and anything else we could think of at the time. Then we would eject for every major infraction without warning. The kid should have been told to remove it, a team warning should have issued and documented, and then any subsequent act would result in ejection. You're right, however, that the ump was not nit picky, he was just flat wrong.
  13. I've never seen anything governing older fields. My guess is that if its been acceptable by coaches and umpires in the past then it's okay. Also, I'm not sure how long the recommendations have been in place but as long as I've known (about 15 years) that's been the deal.
  14. NFHS recommends that for new field construction from "home plate to the nearest obstruction on fair ground should be at least 300 feet down the foul lines and at least 350 feet to center field." Hope this helps
  15. No, you are wrong. Check your case book. For instance, if a player is not listed as a sub on the lineup card and the coach wants to enter that player into the game, he can. There is no penalty.
  16. Subs do not technically have to be listed on the lineup card; it is simply a courtesy. As someone stated, once a batter enters the game, he is legit. The only real difference between a starter and a sub is that a starter can be reentered once and a sub can never be reentered in any capacity offensively or defensively.
  17. How does this rule explain the direction of the possession arrow? It simply states that Team A loses its opportunity to attempt a "throw-in." Surely there is a rule more clear than this.
  18. A lot of good points here. I don't believe anyone is getting too excited. We, some of us, simply don't know what lies ahead or how good Carter is. My point was simply to say that many people, some with knowledge and some without, predicted a loss or a very close game. We all know that didn't happen. Beating a team with injuries does not ever give you a good idea of how good you are. Carter fans are happy to be in a district with other schools its size as any school would be. There will always be people posting about things of which they have no knowledge.
  19. I'm glad PigSkinRules cleared that up. I was about to give a historical and statistical breakdown, along with a bio feedback on three players from Waverly Central.
  20. Good Post! I agree that Carter should win this one. Too many athletes for Seymour I believe. Avoid turnovers, and the score should be close to your prediction. If Seymour jams the box, Stanton will have a field day throwing it over the top. Contrary to what other posters believe, the folks jawing about Morr. East seemed to know the roster pretty well. First big test? Didn't turn out that way.
  21. First of all, you obviously do not know the history of the Civil War, or you would understand that this entire "offensive" situation is contrived. I work for a bigger school system than Blount County, and I am sure that I understand PR nightmares. As a matter of fact I aced the course in the Master's program. If school systems give in to every complaint made by every group, we'll soon be walking single file in same-sex lines to and from classes and other events. This is a perfect example of a knee-jerk reaction if not reverse discrimination. I could care less if anyone even attends Maryville games. I don't dislike the program, I'm simply indifferent, but when people support decisions based on a created "insensitive" situation proven to be crap by history, I felt I needed to add my 2 cents. Have "rebel" or "confederate" flag shirts been banned? If groups are offended, maybe they should start their own private or parochial school. What's next? I know! The American Zoological Society and PETA will protest the use of the bobcat name at Central High games. Finally, I guess the strange thing is when I have attended games at Maryville to watch them practice for the playoffs, minority students are right in the middle of all the celebrations, the flag waiving, the cheers. As a matter of fact, I have never heard about one complaint from a current or former player about playing with the word "Rebels" on their helmet. Maybe they understand the point better than the adults making the new policies or those of you supporting it.
  22. This bunch of "Liberal" crap is getting old! Everywhere you look somone is being "insensitive", "Offended" and all this other "BS". What happens when I'm offended because there is a "homosexual" teacher at my school? I'm offended, but nothing happens...but when one isn't hired it's always being discriminated against, or the teacher is offended by your decision... My point is quit playing the "race" in every issue!! I wouldn't care if "African-Americans" waved their flag 825691000[/snapback] It's one thing to be offended by something that's meant to be offensive and labeled correctly; it's another thing altogether to assume that the "rebel" flag or "confederate" flag is anything but a symbol of a specific group in the past. It's rediculous to contend that this flag is a symbol of slavery because the states that marched under it were slave holding states. If that is the case, however, the American flag is also a symbol of slavery. Let me explain: 50 stars on the flag, 4 represent slave holding states that never seceeded from the union; therefore, since they weren't in secession, the Emancipation Proclamation didn't apply to those states. They could keep their slaves. It would take an idiot to not see the Civil War had nothing to do with slavery. The flag simply represented the group that was fighting for states' rights. Slavery was not brought into it until it became a way of control. If the union wanted to free slaves period, why not in those 4 states. If you ban the confederate flag for being offensive, you must ban the American flag for being offensive. It's that simple. Read the history.
  23. If it's the kid that kicked for Bearden Middle, it's the same kid. I didn't notice him on defense, but this kid was also a running back. I don't know his name because I didn't follow that team closely; I was there when they played against teams I was watching. Very strong leg!
