  1. I didn't go to the game, but from what I heard it was a tough night for us. We will get better as the summer goes on and the baseball players return. Our qb is on the baseball team and will help as he can run and throw and is a good leader. We still must find a rb and improve in the secondary. LaVergne is a very good team and good luck in 06.
  2. The Rebels had Dunlap, Ray, Sells and sophmore pitcher Ricketts.
  3. Franklin Co seems to play better in the district games. In order to beat Shelbyville, we will have to play good defense and get timely hits. Shelbyville has excellent pitching and good hitters, plus a solid pitching staff.
  4. From Franklin Co-Cleek will sign with Belmoint or Vol State, Dunlap and Sells to Vol State or Walters St, Ray to University of the South.
  5. Glen Sholey to Tn Tech. Glenn will stand out at Tech and have a great career. Glen is a hard worker who competes on ever play. One of our strongest players. Glen was the defensive MVP of Region 3. A def lineman rarely gets MVP. Logan Ray signs a full tuition scholarship at Sewanee. A true leader and one of the toughest players we've had at FCHS. Coach Windham got a steal. Logan has a lot of upside and has overcame a lot of injuries. Good luck to both of these outstanding young men. We look forward to watching both of you play on Sat.
  6. I have seen Coffee Co 3 times and Shelbyville four times. Williams is a very good player and yes, his team wouldn't have won many games without him. The same can be said for Shelbyville, without Twilley and Stewart, until late in the yr. The last game I saw Williams play, wwas at FCHS. He only had nine points and really didn't come to play. He looked sluggish and didn't play with the energy that he has displayed over the yrs. In a critical situation late in the game, he didn't put much effort in boxing out Chris on a missed Rebel free throw and Chris got a critical rebound and basket. Stewart /or Twilley should have won it , or shared it. However, they will continue to play hard and compete to try to make it to state. Good luck! By the way, both Chris and Mikey are worthy of making all tournament.
  7. The Rebels had a scrimmage with Riverdale last night. Both teams played well considering it was the first scrimmage. The Rebels don't have an indoor facility and this was their 3rd time hitting, besides soft toss. I left about the fith inning. Drew pitched very well and I do believe he will be our #1 pitcher. Ricketts, Partin and Miller pitched well. I heard Zach struggle and got hit hard, but it is very early. Dunlap and Ray were drilling the ball. They looked good at the plate. With, Dunlap, Ray and Sells in the middle of the line up, we could have as good 3-4-5 hitters as anyone in the district. Bradley got hurt and had to go to the dr. I heard he had some injured ribs, but will be back soon. Hopefully, we will have some good weather soon and get some good batting practice. Good luck to Riverdale. I think we scrimmage you again soon.
  8. If Franklin Co protects the ball, we will win by 10. We need the win and Coach Wild will have the young ladies ready. Jessica has really been playing well. Good luck.
  9. The Rebels have a chance of beating the Raiders. We had a lead until late in the game at Manchester. We now have Thaddeus, who was injured when we played the first time. Chris had a big game the last time around and I think he will have another good game Fri. night. This has been a tough yr for the Rebels. We have lost several players since the season started, including 2 starters. We also lost 3 srs that didn't come back after last yr. Two of those srs would have played a lot and provided the leadership which is sorely missing. One of those srs would have been one of our better players. We have had several defections from the team. Hopefully, we will beat Manchester and make it to the Regionals which will be at FCHS. I also hope we have a new coach next yr.
  10. Yes, Tullahoma hung in there with the Golden Eagles, but so did Coffee Co the first time around and the Rebels stayed close the first game and took Shelbyville to over time in Winchester. Shelbyville is playing as well as they have all year. I would think Shelbyville wins this one rather easy. Good luck to both teams in the tournament.
  11. District will be very competitive. Shelbyville and Tullahoma are probably the pre season favorites. Columbia and Lawrence Co will have strong teams. I do believe Franklin Co has a chance this yr. We may start an all sr line-up. We have several good pitchers, but we need to find an ace. I believe our # 1 pitcher will be either Cleek, Sells or Partin. Also need a closer, which may be Ray, Partin or Ricketts. With Dunlap, Ray and Sells, we should have very good hitting. Hard to get excited with this cold spell and snow on the way. We don't have an indoor facilities and I believe it will hurt us. Our strength should be hitting and depth at pitching, but we need an indoor facility to be ready when the season starts.
  12. I heard he is off the team again. He had broken some rules and had quit coming to practice.
  13. Britton is the new coach at FCHS. We are glad to have him and welcome him to our community. The young men have been anxiously waiting for their next coach. These players will work hard and do what are ask of them. Coach Britton will always be proud of the effort of Franklin Co players. Our facilities are among the best in the state. You will find that you have become a member of the Franklin Co family and have many friends in the county and you will have their support. Fri nights in Winchester are special. You will enjoy the attitude and work efforts of the players. Coach Mantooth gave them a talk about working hard for the new coach and they have been in the weight room since the season ended. A previous poster said that FC had speed and have a lot of players that are not playing football. Very few talented players are walking the hallways of FCHS and the ones that are just doesn't have the heart to play football. I will only briefly mention the Crawford situation. He said yes and then backed out. He accepted the terms and then he did not. The admin did the right thing by going on and hiring Coach Britton. I will not say much more on Crawford, but we were very surprise by his actions. I now believe that it was not in the best interest of FCHS to hire him.
  14. It was well maintained dued to the hard work of Coach Mantooth. He worked so hard on the football field, the practice fields and the soccer fields. In response to some of the previou sposts...One of Coach Mantooth's main goals was to stop the bleeding to Tullahoma. In yrs past, we lost 250-350 students (K-12) to Tullahoma each yr. They type of students we lost were the top academic students and athletes to THS. Mantooth improved greatly on keeping FC athletes at home. A large population lives in the Northern Franklin Co area, which is just a few miles from Tullahoma. Three Winchester Bankers and an attorney has kids that goes to Tullahoma, as well as a FC school board member's grandson pays tuition to attend Tullahoma. Huntland is another FC school besides FCHS. Huntland gets several excellent athletes a yr that previously played at one of the jr high schools, or decided to transfer to Huntland. No zoning in Franklin Co. Football is huge in Franklin Co. Sweep is right about most of his post. One of the problems this yr was we only had 5 assistants. Coach Carson left the week before 2 a days and we lost another coach. We don't have a lot of speed on the team, but we have hard nose kids who does not quit. The 8th graders are very talented in the skill positions. Yes, almost every business buys an ad in the football program. The problem is the Quarteback club doesn't get a penny of the ad sales, or the concession sales. The FCHS band has total control of the programs and concession stands. As far as the Quarterback Club goes, they are very supportive and has some very hard workers and leaders. The problem is they only have a few workers. Their biggest fundraiser is the Jonathan Acklen Fishing Tournament headed up by Mr Brown. Coach Mantooth was a players coach. He cared about everyone on the team. Coach Mantooth went to the playoffs 5 yrs in a row. It just wasn't good enough. The way the admin treated Coach was not right. Good luck to Coach Crawford or Coach Britton. Should have a coach by the end of today. The latest news this morning is that money is the hold up. Hopefully, Dr Edmonds will step up and solve this situation either way.
  15. Here is the latest. Coach Crawford is to let Franklin Co's AD know within the next few hours whether he is accepting the job or staying at Brentwood. Most of the details have been worked out re:salary, how many coaches he can bring with him, personal benefits, responsibilities with the field maintenance, whether he has to move to Franklin Co., the football budget, # of classes to teach and a couple of more items. Franklin Co has given in to most of Crawford's requests and Crawford has given in on a couple of items. Crawford's decision is to be made tonight. Also heard Britton has pulled away from DeLaughter as the second choice and will be offer the job immediately, should Crawford decide not to come. All indications are that the Rebels will have a new coach by tomorrow morning. The players and parents are anxious to learn who their new coach will be. By the way, the off coord at Austin Peay withdrew his name.
  16. Here is a list of 7 out of the 9 finalists. Two of the finalists have asked for their names not to be given out to the media. Coach Mac's name is not on the list as he and Coach Rogers (AD) went their separate ways last week. Coach Mac is happy in Miss and it probably was the best for his family. Here's the finalists that have been made public: Jim Carr-def coord at FCHS with nine yrs on the staff. Bob Atec'a's- off coord at Austin Peay and former head coach at Clarksville High School. Stephen Britton-12 yrs as an assistant at Riverdale, during which the Warriors won 4 state championships. Brad Cowan-assistant coach at both Oakland and former assistant at Riverdale. Robert Reeves- assistant head coach at William Blount. Devin DeLaughter- assistant coach at MMcCallie and former recruiting coordinator at the Un of the South. Ron Crawford-head football coach at Brentwood the last 4 yrs with one state championship and previously long time assistant at Riverdale.
  17. Lincoln Co...Talented group of incoming jrs and soph, and freshmen classes are very good. Falcons will soon be one of the better teams in Middle Tenn. Cookeville....Coach Joslin is building a strong program at Cookeville. Warren Co...Yes, they will miss their qb, but have very good classes coming up. Franklin Co....we will really miss the leadership of Hershberger, Ray and Wiseman. Have to find rb's and a qb. Sholey will sorely be missed. We are a couple of yrs from having similar teams to the ones we had in the late 60's and early 80's. A lot of young talent at the skill positions. Coffee Co...yes they played a lot of young talent, but they had to. Not sure they are talented enough to make the playoffs. Cumberland Co...new coach and bilding of the new school. One thing you can always count on from the Jets is hard nosed football. They always have tough kids. They need more speed.
  18. It appears that all interviews have not been completed. This will be drawn out for awhile longer. One of the finalists appears to be Devin Delaughter. He is an assistant at McCallie and played at Tullahoma and University of the South. Coach Mac is still the favorite, but several people have voiced their concerns about hiring him.
  19. The Rebelettes travels to Shelbyville Tues night. We are playing well and improving each week. Gulley is playing as well as anyone on the team. Our defense is causing turnovers and hurried shots. Foster is starting to be a leader on offense and Jackson and Pickett have been offensive leaders all yr and no one outworks the Cunningham girl. Shelbyville has always been the benchmark in District 8. Hopefully, we can put pressure on their ball handlers and limit their scoring in the paint. They have very good post players. For the 1st time since Coach Harlow's days, I feel that we have a good chance of beating the Eaglettes. It will be a very hard fought game and Shelbyville is a tough place to play. I was not fond of the way the admin dismissed Ms Crabtree, but I am pleased with the hiring of Coach Wild and his wife. They have been great assets to our county. They have been very good in meeting the folks of Franklin Co and have been very supportive of our football and boys basketball and girls soccer programs. They are excellent teachers of the game and we wish them well Tues night. Go Rebelettes.
  20. It seems that Mac McCurry is the leading canidate to be the next coach at Franklin Co. The deadline for applications was extended for Coach Mac and another coach to apply. The new coach will be announced by Dec. 23. The original date to name the coach was Dec 12. It does appear that the AD, Superintendent and powerful board members wants Coach Mac. It could change if enough people get to the AD, as a lot of Franklin Countians do not want Coach Mac. The AD has notified the media not to list names or rumors of who has applied, therefore, the radio station and newspaper have remain silent. Again, as of now, it is Coach Mac's job to take.
  21. I don't think Coach Ken Colquette would be a good fit at Franklin Co. He did not win as many games as he promised at Grundy Co. They Yellow Jackets finished 5-6 his last yr. I think he is still the principal and ad at Grundy Co. Word was that he was making big bucks and I think his wife is the assistant principal. Coach Rogers (AD) and the powers to be keeps stating how they made a good hire in Coach Wild and that they will hire a good football coach. I hope so. Coach Wild was an excellent choice, but he more or less fell in their laps. However, Coach Rogers also hired the current boys basketball coach and that choice is turning out to be a poor one. We had a good football coach and this hire is a critical one. I am hoping we hire a good football coach and a good man.
  22. Congrats on your win. Coffee Co is one of the surprise teams in District 8.
  23. Great post and knowledge of the district. Only place where I disagree with you is Coffee Co and Lincoln Co. Just switch those two spots and that is probably the way the district will finish. Shelbyville girls are real glad to have their new coach. It is also good to see Coach Harlow back in District 8. Two biggest surprises are Coffee Co and Franklin Co. Coffee Co girls are playing well and got a great win last night. Coach Wild is one of the best coaches in Middle Tenn and is doing a great job. Just hopes he stays around for awhile. The way the Franklin Co boys are playing, severall people wants Coach Wild to coach both the boys and the girls. Tullahoma's problem is that most of the talent plays other sports- and does not play basketball.
  24. Congrats on the win. A good start in district play for Coffee Co. Lincoln Co has a good coach and some sound players. Micah Williams should be enoug for Coffee Co to finish in the top 4. Good luck!
