  1. Unless we play during the regular season you won't be seeing us. We'll be playing 3A in the playoffs to your 2A. Again, good game MC.
  2. Here's something interesting: The preps from cal predicting Alcoa beating Marion County 31-14 (score was 30-14). It predicts Alcoa beating Milan 34-21. HHHMMMMMM....
  3. Great game! You have definitely earned our respect. Band sounded good, but you don't "dis" the "too hype"! And, I thought it was against TSSAA rules for the band to play during a play on the field. We need to bring back the tornado warning siren! Maybe if someone could stand outside of the fence and blow it it would be okay!
  4. It was also the 1st game of the season.
  5. The winds are pickin' up here in Springbrook! GO TORNADOES!!!
  6. Band Booster menu for tonight: hotdogs, chili dogs, chili, tornadoes, sodas, water, and Cider
  7. That's the neat thing about living in a small town! Before our boys left for the 'Boro the last 4 years, the student body has a pep rally, the boys get on the bus, they go to the middle school where the whole student body is outside cheering them on, then they go down to the elementary school where their whole student body is cheering, jumping up and down, and screaming their hearts out! It's a wonderful, heart-tugging sight to see! You Warrior fans have a safe trip up! Oh, and, the name of our town is "ALCOA", not "Aloca"! /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" ALCOA WINS!! /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
  8. Okay, here we go! Let's see who Alcoa played this season (since you failed to mention our regular season): Week 0: Spring Hill (3A) 2-8 W 63-3 Week 1: Maryville (4A) 13-0 L 20-13 Week 2: White House (3A) 12-1 W 28-3 Week 4: BT Washington (2A) 2-9 W 56-0 Week 5: Wartburg ® (2A) 1-9 W 44-0 Week 6: Oliver Springs ® 2A 2-9 W 62-0 Week 7: CAK ® 2A 7-5 W 28-7 Week 8: Sweetwater ® 2A 4-6 W 51-0 Week 9: Rockwood ® 2A 4-6 W 52-0 Week 10: Loudon ® 2A 8-5 W 37-0 So, our opponents' combined w/l total: 55-58 (95% wins) Marion County's opponents' combined w/l total: 48-56 (86% wins) Let's look at what kind of teams were played: Alcoa: 1A: 0 MC: 1A: 2 2A: 7 2A: 6 3A: 2 (1 in semis) 3A: 1 4A: 1 (#1 in state) 4A: 0 NonTSSAA: 0 NonTSSAA: 1 Is our schedule tougher? I guess that's arguable. We have to play some teams because they were in our region. We play some teams because they'll man up and play us. The CAK games were close games; it's too bad we'll continue to see them in our region, because the games we've played with them are of state championship caliber. ALCOA WINS!!!!! Excuse him/her....I think the 15 is his age!
  9. It was a matter of not knowing if we would be home or not. If we definitely knew we were going to be home, more would've been ordered. Plus, we're working on a "reduced staff" since it's Thanksgiving. (There are very few boosters who are alumni of AHS, so they haven't learned where there priorities are yet!) There will be Chick-fil-A sandwiches and "Tornadoes" (frito pies). Plus, there will be hot vendor-style pretzels at the stand next to us, thanks to Mr. Fox! I"m sure the home concessions will have pizza, as well. Don't worry, MC, you won't go hungry as long as you have the $$!!!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  10. When you park at the middle school look down the hill and you'll see the duck pond, then look left to the swimming pool. Look more to the left, and you'll see the bridge; home to numerous egg-fights during Murvul-Alcoa week (in the past, anyway!)! The only thing holding that bridge up is paint! In fact, if you get down here early, you should take a tour of Alcoa. It will only take 5 minutes, but we're really proud of our community. Nice park, nice walking trails...just real Americana! Like Rankinated said: If you don't see it, just ask. We are extremely nice people!
  11. Before anybody starts feeling too sad for MC having to spend money on Friday: The band ran out of everything on Friday night, leaving us to resort to Chick-fil-a sandwiches and Tornadoes (frito-pies) for Friday! /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> Looks like Friday a.m. may be a good time to do some painting!
  12. Bad news: No burgers or french fries this week. With it being T'giving weekend, we're working with a "reduced staff"! There will be Tornadoes and chick-fil-a sandwiches, though!
  13. The boosters will be grillin' on Thursday, then! /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" />
  14. Alcoa very much respects teams that play us...period. There are many teams that just won't take the challenge. That being said: When an opponent steps on our field and gives it all they've got, and continue playing until the last buzzer (no matter what the score is), that's what high school football is all about. Lot of character building on both sides of the ball. CG fans: have a safe trip on Friday; hope you enjoy your visit to Goddard Field/Bill Bailey Stadium, and come hungry! The band boosters grill up some excellent hamburgers, hotdogs, and chicken sandwiches, as well as some out of this world, steaming hot french fries!
  15. Hey, CG fans: Come hungry! Our band boosters will be grilling up some hamburgers, hotdogs, and chicken sandwiches for a reasonable price! The french fries are out of this world! Much better than anything you'll get outside the gate! /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" />
  16. Come early with an empty stomach! The band boosters will be grilling some awesome hamburgers, hotdogs, and chicken sandwiches, along with out of this world french fries!
  17. We've always had a rule with our boys: Once we drop them off at the field, they're the coaches' boys. We've had the good fortune to have had excellent coaches since our boys were old enough to play. The times that our boys have complained about something that happened in football, we've always told them that they needed to talk to the coach. They learned very quickly that talking to the coaches on their behalf was not something we would do. One time my son was getting chewed out at a game (I think he was around 9 at the time), and I had a parent come up to me and ask if that was my son getting yelled at, and then she proceeded to say that if she were me she'd talk to the coach after the game. That flew all over me. I told her that if my son was doing something wrong, he'd better get yelled at so that he wouldn't get hurt. I think parents forget how dangerous this game can be. I've said many times that if my boy doesn't know the right way to do things, he'd better be on the sideline until he can do it without getting hurt. Are there politics in this game? You betcha. But, that's life...deal with it.
  18. "Chris Shiverdecker listed as being from Jefferson City " I wouldn't take too much stock in what the media guides have listed. I realize college is different from the pros, but I know of someone who graduated from West Point, went pro, and has West Point, NY listed as his hometown, when in reality he is from the Bristol area.
  19. If the current Z plan holds, Alcoa will pretty much be playing the same teams they play now in 2A, + Stone Memorial and Scott Co. (so much for short distances!). Seems like Kingston was on there, but I may be wrong. Don't know why we'd want to "play up". Every year the team is different. It's not the same team every year.
  20. I've been sitting back, reading posts, biting my tongue, but now I think it's time for me to speak my mind: The bad blood between the county schools and Alcoa has to do with the way we were dropped (in my opinion). The way I understand it: The county schools didn't have the courtesy to call our athletic dir. and let him know that we were being dropped from their schedule. How unprofessional is that? They may be in athletics, but they have degrees and are considered professionals. That, IMO, was underhanded and achieved nothing. That left 2 of our dates open, with noone to fill it. Fulton's calendar was full, Maryville wouldn't/couldn't change their date, and other schools had the same response. Spring Hill and White House stepped up (probably as a favor to Rankin), so there's our 2 schools. I felt like we should've dropped them from the other sports as well, but we didn't. Forward to the present: All 3 schools have new Athletic Directors, and 2 of the schools have new Head Coaches. So, what's the problem??? It just doesn't make sense. I really thought that they'd welcome the chance to play another in-county game. Someone eluded that Alcoa was to blame, but Alcoa has a new head coach. I have no idea what kind of game the county schools are playing. Somebody needs to step up and clear this up. Maybe our wonderful newspaper would do a story on it. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" I liked what somebody posted earlier about 2 of the BC schools playing on Thurs. and the other 2 on Friday. I bet the gates were phenomenal! Maybe not as good as Alcoa/Maryville, but good just the same. I don't know about other Tornado fans, but I'm getting tired of having to drive 3- 3 1/2 hours to watch a football game (especially when I have to sit in the rain!).
  21. Anybody know of a school that's in an area with a drought? Maybe they'll play us during week 0 or week 2! /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  22. "Most of the time when Alcoa steps outside of 2A they get beat." (FBE) HUH????? I can only speak for what's happened since 2004, since that's when we moved home to Blount Co. The only teams to beat Alcoa are Maryville and Fulton. We beat tough McCallie teams twice, Fulton once, Hopkinsville (Ky), White House, Spring Hill, South-Doyle, William Blount, Heritage, Webb (although they may be considered 2A if they were public). Before that year, Alcoa beat Brainerd & West (that goes back to 2001 since I found out that information!). So, I think you need to retract your statement. True, some of these teams may not be powerhouses, but your statement was definitely wrong. Congrats to MHS on a good game. Maybe if a couple of things had gone our way, the result would be different. Hats off to Murvul's defense for disrupting our usual style of play and keeping Thompson and Toney away from the ball. And, as we say the day after the Murvul game: "Maybe next year!" /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  23. APB has an unfair advantage! /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> Here we go again: talk about open-zoned schools. I thought all public schools allowed students from other zones to pay tuition to attend their school. I know Sullivan County/Bristol/Kingsport does it. Murvul/Alcoa kids can go to county schools (but they don't have to pay tuition since they're already paid through taxes). Murvul/Alcoa has been doing this ever since I can remember, and I graduated in '80. Let's see...take away our tuition kids and let's see what starters wouldn't be there: Coulter (who has been going to Alcoa since he was in Kindergarten and whose mom is an alum), T. Robinson (whose dad is a city employee) and Kincannon. Is that it??? These are 3 outstanding players, but, if we didn't have them, there would've been a couple of others who would've stepped up. Alcoa does allow city employees who don't live in the limits to bring their child to Alcoa, but if the classes are full it's a "no-go". It doesn't matter how good of an athlete your child is, you're not getting in. Case in point: When we moved back here 4 years ago, my oldest was a sophmore. (Before anybody says anything: I'm not saying my son was a wonderful athlete, he was just on the team!!!) I was told that if we couldn't find a house in the city, my son would not be allowed to attend Alcoa the next year. We were staying with my parents at the time (who live in the city). And, my parents had many, many kids to go through AHS and made many non monetary contributions to AHS. So, should there be a multiplier on so-called "open-zoned" schools? I don't think so (of course I'm biased). If the majority of the team were tuition students, I'd be more inclined to suggest that they would. Even Knox Co. students can request transfers to another school other than their zoned school. Are they "open-zoned" as well? Seems like TSSAA would be opening themselves to a lot of trouble (more than they have already) if they went down that path. If they do that, they should raise the multiplier for privates, and I would suspect they wouldn't multiply by 1.8 as they do for privates. Anyway: Congratulations to Alcoa for their 4th gold ball in a row. Congratulations to GP for making it to the championship game and for preventing the shut-out.
  24. Congrats to Maplewood for hanging with Murvul and giving them a game. After what I read in the Tennessean about the school, I really hope they can turn things around there. Football is just one way to do it. Sounds like they have a good coach who cares about the kids and seems to be doing the right things over there.
