  1. So if Moore is going to stay on as a teacher how will SP be able to hire someone from outside? If there ain't no teaching spot you might find yourself in the same mess you did with that Ross man. Don't think I'm joking cause I ain't.
  2. Marion County schools are out for the remainder of the week due to illness. Since there is no school, the MC DOE will not allow games to be played. The Marion County / Sequatchie County game will be rescheduled. The coaches are meeting in the morning to determine when it will be played. I will post the new date when one is made available. Thanks for your patience. Sorry for any inconvenience.
  3. As a coach I'll tell you my situation. I'm a new coach to my team with new offensive/defensive sets and a new philosoply. I have 23 players (varsity & JV). I have 5 Seniors, 2 Juniors, 7 Sophomores, and 9 Freshmen. I have twelve players listed on varsity that include 5 Srs, 2 Jrs and 5 Sophs with one Freshman that dresses every game and gives quality minutes at times. My typical starters (although it can change from night to night) include 2 Srs, 2 Jrs and 1 Soph. Including HOF games, we have played a total of 7 games this year. All of the games have been relatively close with an average margin of 10 points. It is difficult to get everyone into the game. To that end, all of my sophomores (except my one starter) have played some jv. In many instances, that is the only way that I can get them quality PT so that they can work on and improve their skills as well as learn my systems. The jv games aren't about winning and losing, they are about getting better as a player and a team. Many times we don't even keep a book. If it were up to me I would just run the clock and not keep score, but it is nice to have the scoreboard there to work on situations such as leading or trailing by a few points with time running out. We make every effort to get everyone into the jv game but yes, the sophomores who sit the varsity bench will get PT on jv because they will be the heart of my team next year and they need the experience. I may be approaching it the wrong way but I feel like I'm not only working on this years team but I'm building for next year and the year after that and so on. If you are a player, at any level, and you aren't satisfied with the amount of PT that you are getting you need to look at those that are playing ahead of you and ask "how can I get better so I can get some of their playing time?" I'm afraid that it is just easier for players, and parents, to criticize the coaches for decisions that are made.
  4. I've seen both teams play against Marion County this year. If both games are any indication, it should be a very good game to watch. If Cascade comes out and plays like they did in the second half against Marion, they should have no problem winning this game. It will definitely be a fun game to watch. Good luck to both teams.....
  5. Alright guys... Let me stop this mess now. I am Chuck Keef. I am a teacher at MC and next year I will be the Girls Basketball coach. LET'S GET THIS STRAIGHT RIGHT NOW....I AM NOT NOW NOR WILL I BE THE HEAD COACH OF GIRLS SOFTBALL AT MARION COUNTY! PERIOD.... We all know about the unfortunate accident that Coach Laws suffered back in November. Coach Moore and Coach Layne agreed to take the team on an interim basis until such time that Coach Laws was able to return. Coach Moore has been a football assistant at MC since I was in school a very long time ago. He told the administration and he told the team that when spring practice started, he would have to go with football. It is now that time of year with Spring Practice beginning on Monday. For liability purposes, there must be a Faculty Representative in attendance at all sporting events. That is where I come in. Since Coach Layne is not an employee of the School, the team was needing a faculty represetative. Coach Moore ask me if I would fill in. I am more than happy to be the rep but I WILL NOT have the title of head coach. Nothing has changed nor will it be changed going into this final week of regular season and District Tournament. Coach Layne has been with the team all season and he certainly knows what he is doing. The girls have played ball for years and they certainly know what they are doing. Coach Layne and I will determine how my presence will best serve the team. I am there to do whatever he needs me too, if he needs anything at all..... Coach Moore talked to the girls last night after practice to tell them what was going on. He also told them that he would still be there at games after he was finished with football. As soon as football practice is over, he'll come to the game where ever it is. To my knowledge, none of the girls have a problem with it. So, if it is not a problem to them, there is no need for the rest of us to worry. As far as I'm concerned, when this season ends, so does my involvement with the team. Coach Laws is recovering and I see no reason why she will not resume responsibility of the team for next year. Coach Moore and Coach Layne have done a tremendous job with this team in a year that has been unique, to say the least. It hasn't been easy for anyone involved. Coach Moore, Coach Layne and myself are committed to see this team do well. I agreed to do this because I love these girls, I love this team and I love this school. I'm certain that Coach Moore and Coach Layne feel the same way. I think that, rather than throw daggers at the backs of those that have helped, we should feel blessed to have had people who were willing to give of themselves unselfishly to help this team through what really could have been a disasterous season. Let's stop the rummors and bickering NOW! Sincerely, Chuck Keef.
  6. I heard that Roane State was interested in both of them. I don't know if either has been talked to yet or not.
  7. Sarah Griffith is in her final year at Motlow and is doing pretty well. She even got to hit in a game the other day and went 2 - 3 with a home run and two or three RBI's. That was the first game that she was able to hit in. Her record at the time was 7 - 0 with a 0.4 ERA. Mathews is the former Marion County player on Chattanooga State's roster. I had heard that both she and Emily Baker from Sequatchie County had quit or were going to quit. That's a shame because both girls were good players and even better persons. Good luck to both of them as they move to the next steps in their lives.
  8. How about those Lady Warriors from Marion County? Congratulations on quality wins over Oak Ridge and McMinn County....Great job ladies and keep up the good play..... Congratulations also to Coach Moore and Coach Layne...your hard work is paying off with a good season.....
  9. Final score was 11 - 1... Marion
  10. Snipe's kids hunt him every day cause he's never in his classroom!
  11. They crossed home plate nine times.... I don't think anyone played their normal position. It was more like fruit basket turnover. Outfielders were playing infield and infielders were playing outfield. Kilgore played outfield instead of pitching. Spangler started and pitched the first couple of innings then our starting catcher finished the game. It could have been really ugly but Marion's coaches were holding runners. Our Freshmen got plenty of playing time. Don't read anything into the fact that Howard scored nine.....Marion is still a solid team. Of course, if ya'll want to go ahead and overlook us, that'll be juuusssttt fine with me!
  12. Marion County 21 Howard 9 Another good offensive outing for the Lady Warriors. Keep up the good work.
  13. GREAT GAME Ladies. Very good way to start the season. Now that the first game jitters are over, you can relax and play your game. Great job of hitting tonight. Good job pitching by Kilgore. We are proud of you.....keep up the good work.
  14. How 'bout them Lady Warriors!!!! This was a very good way to start the season. Another good offensive performance. Franklin County hit the ball very well. Congratulations to C. Kilgore for the WIN. I don't know the stats but she pitched a good ballgame. This was a good win ladies....enjoy it and get ready for Howard on Thursday.
  15. I think that all parents share this phenomenon. I also think that if you are fortunate enough to be a parent AND a coach, you are in a tougher situation. The parent in me wants my daughter to be the best that she can be and I have obvious biases concerning her performance in relation to her teammates. At the same time, the coach in me tells me to stay objective and call it like it is. The way that I handle the situation is that I drop her off at practice and I make myself scarce. That way, I'm not watching what is going on with the team. When it comes game time, I just have to trust that her coach is playing her, and the other players, when and where he thinks it will benefit the team the most.
  16. Is this official? If it is....I wish Coach Phillips the best of luck in his new role. SP has definitely got a good one in David and I think he'll be good for the program.
  17. The TSSAA rules are governed by NFHS rules. NFHS rules state that the bats must meet ASA 2004 Performance Standards. The following link will take you to the ASA 2004 Performance Standards page. You can find listings of approved and non-approved bats. Hope this helps. ASA 2004 Performance Standard
  18. Does anyone know if Sequatchie County is hosting their summer camp again this year. If so, what are the dates?
  19. Here is the schedule for MCHS at SP playday. Thursday, March 2 3:30 vs. Whitwell (field #2) 5:30 vs. Grundy Co. (field #2) 6:30 vs. Sequatchie Co. (field #1) Friday, March 3 3:30 vs. Huntland (field #1) 5:30 vs. South Pitt (field #1) 6:30 vs. Sale Creek (field #2) 8:30 vs. Grundy Co. (field # 2) Good luck Lady Warriors!
  20. ALRIGHT!!!!!!! I guess that means that I'm still in the running. I never heard anything from the letter that I posted to Tommy Layne. I guess they are just taking their time getting in touch with me..........
  21. Are you counting me in the nine that have applied?
  22. Alright guys. It appears that everyone's name is getting thrown into the hat, so here goes. January 30, 2006 Sequatchie County High School 523 Hwy 28 Box 759 Dunlap, TN 37327 Attention: Tommy Layne Dear Tommy, Please accept this as my initial step in the application process for the position of Head Football Coach. I hope that together we can make this a mutually beneficial proposition. My experience as a football coach is somewhat limited. However, for the past two years I have been an understudy/assistant to Coach Webb at Jasper Middle School. I have, without a doubt, learned more from him during this short period of time than I could have gained in a lifetime of coaching elsewhere. In addition to football, I have experience as a basketball assistant coach so I could be used in that capacity as well. If I'm hired, I plan to retain the current assistants. All of them. Because God knows that I will need the help. But I digress. If I am hired, I promise to work diligently to ensure that all the hard work put forth by Coach Saunders will not be in vain. To that end, I'm begging you for your consideration. Because, to be perfectly honest with you, I need the additional supplement. Thank you, fcd163
  23. Yeah..I know. Been busy. Work, school, bball...it's a tough life
