  1. I agree. Central and Sweetwater are very good, and I expect nothing less from Boyd. Central may surprise a lot of people this year. They are a very solid team.
  2. Thanks!! I was not sure of how the rule read. I was just going off of what I was told.
  3. My dad coaches volleyball for Polk County and Basin is in their district, they had to cancel both of those games (wins) which lowered their standing in the district. He filed a Title IX complaint, the matter was investigated, and the answer given to the OCR rep was that the 2 schools were not playing due to safety issues. That is also what we were told when we aksed about scheduling them for softball. That is just what we were told. I am not saying that this is the reason.
  4. A slapper can't have a foot on the ground outside the box when she makes contact. It is basically left up to the umpire's discretion. To respond to the idea that umpires will ever common sense, most of them do but it's the ones that don't that give them all a bad name. I agree, intention must be a prerequisite to making the call about wiping out the lines.
  5. We were told that we, the PCHS softball team, could not play Basin for the safety of the kids. That is the reason baseball and volleyball can't play Basin either. Even though PC and CB are in the same district, a complaint was filed about this for the volleyball team but the response remained that it was for the safety of the kids that they do not play. According to the higher ups in Polk, it is a safety issue (for all sports) and has nothing to do the cancellation of the Football game. I hope they play again for the simple fact that both teams meet their budget off of one game. You can't beat that and rarely see that in any other school system. A rivalry, if handled right by the adults, is a great thing for high school football.
  6. An opposing player was warned about wiping out the batter box during a scrimmage but nothing was really done since it was just a scrimmage. I have seen several players do it so far (in scrimmages, play days, and games) and nothing has been said. Don't think that when we get against a team with slappers or heavy hitters up in the box that I won't watch for it and argue my butt off for the call. I have a question... Is their a rule that says the batter's box must been drawn? AND if not, does the dimensions of the box still exist even without lines?
  7. Great point!! When I played as an 8th grader at Basin, we were in the same building as the 9th-12th graders.
  8. Here's the rule... Eighth Grade Participation Section 8. An eighth grade student is eligible to participate for a member school if he/she is enrolled at the school. Students below the eighth grade are not eligible. Any student repeating the eighth grade shall not be eligible for high school participation during the year that the student is repeating the eighth grade. Participation as an eighth grader shall not reduce the number of semesters a student is allowed to participate after enrolling in the ninth grade. ** I played my eighth grade year and ended up lettering five years for my high school team.
  9. We use a double first base @ Polk County. It is not required but is allowed (last year it was illegal, at least that is whate we were told). I agree, if they are so concerend about safety, the double first base should be required.
  10. We use Turbo Stats to keep track of our Softball stats and we love it. It is available for most sports and extremely user friendly.
  11. We do have planning periods, bathroom breaks, lunch, and many other non-instructional times. We still work hard as teachers and coaches, just ask any of the parents that we deal with on a daily basis. Having breaks is a part of every normal work day whether you're a teach or not. Besides that we rarely post anything, with the exception of this thread and the past couple of days. I see nothing wrong with it and do not see any reason for the personal shots. We have a right to an opinion just like anyone else. Mark Rogers
  12. By the way you are not great, in case you can't tell that was sarcasm. I did play for Stone, I am not afraid to say that. I do not need the names and numbers of board members and the Director. I do want to know why but not at any cost to Coach Stone. I respect him, you should try it. Maybe instead of appearing as a know it all, you could have just said it could hurt Stone. It would have been more easily taken over the childish attitude of, "I know something you don't know." You do try to put yourself above others and myself by saying we are "playing dumb." You are not smart just because you are in "the click" and can get info. That's just makes you a brown nose. You know where I went to school, now tell me where you went? PCHS?
  13. I truly respect you for your honesty. I especially respect the way you came across as not knowing everything like the great "amabala." I know Coach Stone is gone, I don't want to know why, but I am going to defend him against people like the great "amabala" who obivously thinks he is above Stone, you, me, and everyone else. Thanks again!!
  14. Hate West Polk. Now the great "amabala" can read minds and see people feelings. I never said I hate West Polk. There are a lot of great people that I truly respect that live here. Why would I have hard feelings for people below the mountain? I said that I don't blame them. You have made this stuff up, just like everything else. So since you are so tight with the Board and the "Super," (which by the way is now referred to as the Director of Schools) do you know who the new coach is going to be?
  15. Yes, Administration has to keep quiet but why do you? You are the all knowing "amabala." Fill us with your great knowledge, so that the less fortunate and ignorant can be enlightened by your superior mind. As far as playing weak teams in the district, Stone did not pick his own district. Do we down grade success because we HAVE to play weak teams? Polk Co. did great this year and people are saying their district was DOWN. I have heard, "East Ridge was not at peak to play them that early," does this make Polk a bad team? Does it lessen the success of their season? Should Davis and the boys hang their heads in shame becuase maybe everyone wasn't at top potential? NO, OF COURSE NOT. But since you know everything, I am sure yuo already thought of all that!!!
