  1. Hampton is gonna be tough in 2 years. They've got more young size than anyone around with Murray, Fields, and Dugger to go with McClain, the Avery transfer, and Stout outside. Stout is exactly like Hyden was when he was a freshman, extremely athletic but very raw. It is gonna be fun to watch them progress with Ned. the Creekers think they've got the conference locked up for the next couple of years lol. That's not gonna happen.
  2. I'd say Malcolm Smith will win it but Hughes proved the past couple of weeks that if he is not the best player in 1A, he is the 2nd best. In the 3 biggest games of his career (sub-state, state rd 1, state rd 2), he went for 40 points, 26 points, and 24 points. It did not go unnoticed either. He was bombarded by college coaches after Hampton's loss yesterday.
  3. Hampton ran the defense they wanted perfectly. They knew exactly what they were doing and planned to do it that way. S-Town had 1 solid player and a bunch of guys who could shoot if left open. They shut Clifton down. He didn't even score in the 2nd half. He finished with 7 pts and 7 turnovers, but I guess Hampton's defense didn't have anything to do with that LOL! Live by the 3, die by the 3. If Hampton wouldn't have taken the starters out, they would have won by 30. They were up 21 when the starters were pulled iirc.
  4. Before the game, it was clear that Hampton was the more talented team and had the 2 best players that would be on the floor. I knew Summetown would be outmanned, however, I did not expect Hampton to just dominate the game the way they did.
  5. Science Hill was an impressive game by Hampton too even though they lost. Only down 1 at the end of 3 quarters and held 4star Bama commit 6-8 Shannon Hale to 6 points. 2 of the 3 wins against Cloudland are quite impressive coming by 22 points and then again by 15. Science Hill and Hunter Huss are the 2 teams I was referring to earlier that are much better than anybody Hampton will see in this tourney. If they play like they did against these 2 teams, they will be fine.
  6. A decisive win may be shocking but Hampton should win this game.
  7. the Arby's is one of the premiere tournaments in the South. a ton of big name guys have played in it. they usually try to get a team from Alaska to come along with a team from Germany, the Bahamas, and Canada. i remember some good teams from Anchorage used to be in it. "Coach Engebretsen’s Warriors lost in the finals of the 2009-2010 Alaska Class 4-A State Championship. The Warriors finished last season with a record of 21-8. Connor Devine, 6’9â€, Jr., and Brandon Kuiper, 6’8â€, Jr., return to lead the Warriors. Coach Engebretsen was named Alaska Coach of the Year for 2009-2010."
  8. they were actually state runner-up last year. i was wrong on that. here is the bracket to show you they are in it again this year. http://asaa.org/wp-content/uploads/4A-Boys-MM-Bracket.pdf
  9. Summertown was definitely not off when I seen them. Hampton beat the defending state champs in the biggest division in Alaska by 14. They are in the Alaska AAAA state tourney again this year. They returned their top 2 leading scorers from last year and both were 6'9". They are a very tough team for a 1A school to play against much less beat by double digits.
  10. nah man, I've seen what Summertown has got. It isn't enough to handle Hampton.
  11. you are hating on Hampton by comparing Hunter Huss against the best AAA teams in Memphis? kinda seems like you are arguing for Hampton lol. Hampton beat Alaska's defending AAAA state champs Wasilla by 14 in the Arby's. They returned their 2 leading scorers from last year and both of them stood 6'9". Now Wasilla is back in the AAAA (the largest division in Alaska) state tournament. I would usually agree with people about East TN but Hampton has played a strong schedule this year and played at least 2 teams (and maybe 3) who are much better than anybody they will play in the Boro. I have seen Summertown. They are not nearly talented as Hampton. Could they win? Of course they could. But they are not the better team.
  12. I am not talking about Summertown being able to run with Hampton. I am saying they don't have the talent to do it. I have seen Summertown.
  13. during his junior year, #13 eclipsed the 1,000 point mark (as did #5) and was the MVP of the regional tournament. he can fill it up. the offense will be there for Hampton, make no mistake about that.
  14. Hampton by 10- Summertown doesn't have the horses to stay with Hampton all game. CSAS by 3- by far the best matchup in the 1st rd Middleton by 15- Cloudland is just outmanned Perry Co by 12- great draw for PC I think whoever comes from the top half of the bracket is winning it all.
  15. I honestly don't think Cloudland's game translates good to the state tournament. Up here they get you on a little floor and press you to death. Everything they do comes from the press and being allowed to foul you constantly without it being called. I don't expect the press to do much on a big floor like at the Boro and I don't expect the refs to let them beat teams to death like they sometimes get away with up here. This is not a good matchup for Cloudland with the size and athleticism of Middleton. I really, really hope I am wrong and Cloudland wins, but right now I expect Middleton to win by 15 or so.
  16. You really don't know anything about Hampton. Hampton can run better than Cloudland. The Dogs ran Harriman to death and I'm sure Harriman can run with anybody in this tournament. They ran right with Hunter-Huss who is much, much faster/better than anyone in this tournament.
  17. It looks like Hampton, CSAS, and Lake Co are the 3 best teams. Sucks they are all 3 in the same side of the bracket.
  18. Hampton by 8 CSAS by 6 Middleton by 12 Perry Co by 14
  19. why are you talking about Mercer in the Mr. Basketball thread?
  20. Hampton starts 4 seniors who are all 3 year starters (Hughes, Ward, Hill, Jones) and 1 junior (Trusler). Hughes led all of District 1 (that means A, AA, and AAA) in points per game, assists per game, steals per game, and free throws made. He averaged something like 22ppg, 7 apg, 6 rpg, and 5 spg. He put up 40 points in the sub-state victory over Harriman in which the Dogs won by 22 against a team that went to state last year. Ward averages something like 15ppg and was the regional tournament MVP. Ward and Hughes both hit the 1,000 point mark during their junior seasons so they obviously can both fill it up. Hill and Jones average around 10ppg and Trusler has really come on as of late. Hampton played much tougher teams in the Arby's classic than they will face at state. That's a fact. In the 1st round Hampton beat the defending AAAA Alaska State Champions by 14. The Alaska team returned their 2 leading scorers from the year before and they both stood 6-9. They lost to AAA sub-state team Science Hill in a game where they were only down 1 going into the 4th qtr. In this game, Hampton held 4star Alabama commit 6-8 Shannon Hale to only 6 points. Also in the Arby's, Hampton lost to Hunter Huss, NC who is now in the NC AAA championship game and has not lost a single game inside the state of NC. Hampton was actually leading Hunter Huss at a couple points in the 3rd qtr. This may have been Hughes best game all year. He had something like 30 pts, 10 rebs, 8 asts, and 7 steals against top notch competition. Hampton played another state tourney team, Cloudland, 4 times and went 3-1 against them. They had 2 very impressive wins over the Highlanders, once by 22 and then by 15 in the regional championship. 2 keys for Hampton in my opinion are: - They have to play with the same composure and intensity they had in the Arby's. They really surprised me at how they were not scared at all of those teams. They have to do the same in the Boro. They can't have the state tourney jitters. - Dylan Hill has to control the paint the way he did against Shannon Hale, the 2 Alaska 6-9 guys, and the multiple 6-7 guys that Hunter Huss had. If he plays like he did in the Arby's and stays out of foul trouble, Hampton will make a real run at the gold ball.
  21. Cloudland had the same idea as thugster about Hampton being a 1 man team and tried to shut Hughes down and make somebody else beat them in the regional championship. Well they held Hughes to 8... and still got beat by 15. This is not a 1 man team even though he is the best player in 1A.
