  1. This might be an interesting solution for those in tie breakers for the last spot. http://footballscoop.com/news/utahs-hs-new-playoff-format-pits-three-teams-one-another-single-game/ Not advocating this at all just found it interesting.
  2. Gibson County is in control of their own destiny. Gibson County can win the right to go to the playoffs on the field. Please do not advocate bringing back the Z-Plan.
  3. So is this the year Lewis County represents the West?
  4. Peabody SHOULD win this one by two scores but they SHOULD have beaten Gibson County by more than that.
  5. I am afraid CoachT has been declining for a longtime. Mostly us older folks and coaches. Kids don't use message boards. Too many words, not enough pictures I guess. HC 35 NE 14
  6. Just to clarify, are you implying that Milan has not been doing anything in the offseason? Or are you making a general statement about all coaches?
  7. Riverrat's posts about who will actually get the job. First post: I was right that Ward would be offered. Second post: Milan offered Ward prior to McConnell. Right again. Third post: WRONG BIG TIME. Ran with a guess based off hints on a message board they were wrong. I was for adding anything to the speculation. Who knows who Milan will get now. Certainly not this poster or some of the so called Milan experts on this board. Good luck Milan.
  8. I wonder who else turned Milan down after Ward?
  9. So Ward is not going to take it. Of the ten that were interviewed how many would turn it down before they get to one that will take it? My guess not very many. I think (based on the previous sentence) there should be a coach in place today or tomorrow, the latest should be sometime next week. So what is taking so long?
  10. 2015 http://www.cdispatch.com/sports/article.asp?aid=42241 May 27, 2015 10:39:54 AM STARKVILLE -- New Starkville High School football coach Ricky Woods sees his latest career stop ending in one of two ways. "They will either fire me or retire me," Woods said. While the comment was made in jest, Woods used his introductory news conference at the Starkville Athletic Center to bring home the point that this would be the last job of his highly decorated coaching career. "I feel like I have come home now," Woods said. "I told my wife (Susan) that this was my last stop. I have carried her around to three states. It's time to quit all of that. I am here for as long as they want me to be here." The Starkville School District school board confirmed the hiring of Woods at a board meeting Friday. Also Tuesday, new athletic director Milton Smith was introduced. Starkville Principal David Baggett called the hiring of Woods and Smith "not home run hires, but grand slam hires." 2016 http://www.cdispatch.com/sports/article.asp?aid=54332 November 17, 2016 10:51:48 AM STARKVILLE -- Starkville High School football coach Ricky Woods has resigned and will take over as the Eupora High coach next season, according to multiple sources. Woods didn't return multiple phone calls seeking comment. Woods coached at Eupora High for five seasons from 1990-94. One source said Woods, an Ackerman native, wanted to be closer to family. Eupora High Athletic Director Stephen Edwards, who also serves as the school's football coach, didn't return multiple phone calls seeking comment. Starkville High Athletic Director Milton Smith said he hadn't talked to Woods as of Wednesday afternoon when the news broke. "I have no idea. I haven't talked to him. For him to be leaving, I hope (I get to talk to him)," Smith said. Woods, who was inducted into the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame before this season, spent the last two seasons at Starkville High. He won the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 6A State championship last season with a record of 14-1, the lone loss coming at Noxubee County in double overtime in the season opener. The Yellow Jackets finished 7-4 and 4-3 in Region 2. They are the first reigning Class 6A State champion to miss the playoffs. Woods coached for five seasons at South Panola High and helped the Tigers win four consecutive MHSAA Class 5A titles from 2003-06. He finished 74-1 and won 60-consecutive games at one point at the school. He also won championships at Ackerman in 1997 and 2001. Before coming to Starkville, Woods served two seasons at Trenton Peabody (Tenn.). After South Panola, Woods spent one year at Bainbridge (Ga.) before taking over at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, where he served five seasons (2008-12).
  11. No doubt he did. Class act. I am sure Milan will pick another good one. Had Morris ever been a head coach anywhere else when he took the job?
  12. That's COMMITMENT and EXPECTATIONS rolled into one. Only a few places like it in west TN.
  13. Been very quiet. I hear interviews are this week. Who all is interviewing?
  14. This confused me. Then again, sometimes I confuse myself. It is a long off season. Keep throwing topics out there, I am sure we will find somethings we can agree on. Sure passes the time.
  15. Sir I respect your efforts in covering high school football statewide. I have even enjoyed some of your coverage. I really like the way the playoffs are done right now it is what I wanted it changed back to from the Z-plan. I do not care if one year the best two teams are on one side of the state or the other and meet in the semi finals. I do not want the Semifinals played at a neutral site or changed in any way from how it is currently setup. I am aware that the media is at a crossroads in finding ways to stay in business. I am aware that the media may benefit greatly from what you suggest. However, I DO NOT want the media playing ANY role in determining ANY aspect of the football playoffs. I am not sure WHICH coaches you refer to that are in favor of this idea. This coach says,"No Thanks!" Look forward to your continued unbiased coverage with no say in the playoffs.
  16. Leave it the way it is. It is how most school systems wanted it. Couldn't care less what the so called state wide media thinks!
  17. I almost spit my coffee on the screen when i read this! I guess the makes Swenson little Bobby.
  18. Sure is a lot of chatter about fundraising.... I take it either Ward is a done deal or you guys are trying to raise money for a plane trip to pick up another coach?
  19. How about a wishlist instead. Steal....Bowlin....Wheeler....Counce....Comer....Swenson....Gray....or (east TN coaches with west tn connections)....Gaddis....Rang....???? Call out of retirement....Morris....Mansfield....???? Settle for....Anyone willing to deal with the issues (basketball coach who is alleged to have the talent on lockdown in the gym)
  20. Humboldt was a dumpster fire this year, but, and I mean a BIG BUT; if the right coach goes in there and gets the kids out of the halls (ex. Gaddis at Peabody), then they could be a contender in a hurry. ......how's that for a run-on sentence?
  21. Is Milan planning to have the new coach in place before January when school starts back? Any word on who all has actually applied?
