  1. Bradley won by 10 points or so. Suddath was the star of the game but Bradley was the better TEAM. I think Bradley will defeat Cleveland for that fact alone. Although the all-state potential players, Hare and Pickel, are the ones to stop, they are not the TEAM. In fact when Hare or Pickel has off nights or when teams prepare to stop only those two, there is always someone to step up. Pugh, young brother of Alphonso, has been no easy player to stop as of lately as has the reserves Hammonds and Brown. Wes Suiter can not be looked at lightly either. Where McCallie was a one man show, the Bears are more of a 5-7 man show. Cleveland has four good players but drop off when Green has to go to the bench. That is where Bradley will have the edge. I take Bradley's 6,7,8 men over Cleveland's. But the crowd will be a factor in the game. Cleveland can have a rowdy group in there own gym and have been known to even stand on the court in the big games if they are not controlled. Can't wait until Friday. 2. Any predictions. Game will be played tonight. Cant' make it to the game but I would love to see it. My prediction is Bradley Central by 15.
  3. Bradley fan also but this game has me worried. I think Bradley will pull it out in the end but I don't know if Bradley has anyone that can matchup with Little. Bradley's perimeter game is as tough as any in the state. The question is the inside strength.
  4. Bradley Central's Brandi Scott has turned into being one of the biggest scoring threats in 5AAA. Bradley also has two other potential threats in the outside shooting of Jackson (sister to Brittney) and Pickel (sister to Bradley boys shooter Kellen). Either one of these two can be as good as any AAA shooters in the state and are both still young. Both need to work on consistency.
  5. The freshman from Walker Valley-Alyson Butler plays in the same district as Meigs. How does the Meigs girl compare to Butler? They have played each other already haven't they? Who was the standout in the game. Read where the freshman from Bradley Central- Pickel- hit five threes the other night. These two must be up there in the top freshman list.
  6. Anyone out there know about the Soddy Daisy and Bradley Central game? Also, when will tomorrow's cancellations be posted?
  7. Though normally I am a supporter of the Bradley teams, I am most impressed with the Blue Raiders this year. Wow! What at year they are having. Is there anyone in the district that can stop Charles Little? The guy is a MAN.... And if you stop him inside what are you going to do with Cooper and Davis outside? Anyone hear what Tray Sharpe is going to do next year? Are there some colleges showing any interest? Man, with Cooper, Davis, Little and Sharpe Coach Green can throw anyone else off his bench in there and not skip a beat. I think it will be an interesting match-up between the Bradley Bears and the Raiders, maybe even the best game in the state that night. I always pick the Bears, but this time I may have to go out on a limb and pick the Raiders by about 8-10 points.
  8. Sly--just wondering if you have heard what Pickel is going to do after high school. Is he considering basketball or baseball? I first heard he was going to play baseball but now I am hearing that there are some fine colleges and universities showing interest in him for basketball. I would hate to have to make that decision. Because I think he may be one of the best shortstops I have seen in this area, but he is also very good on the court. What kind of grades does he make? Is he academically D-I material?
  9. Gotta have heart----and who do you think that Wells should play in front of? Maybe Holly Rogers, an All-State candidate? Or maybe in front of Buckaloo who is about three times the size of Wells and can shoot from anywhere? Maybe she should start in front of Radar who plays the best defense I have seen? I agree that the girl is one awesome freshman, but with the girls in front of her it is hard for her to see quality PT. If she was at Walker Valley or Bradley, perhaps she would be on the court most of the time. I just don't see how you could play her in front of any of the three I just mentioned. She may be the second best Point guard in the county, but the first best also plays on her team. [Edited by nick32 on 1-9-03 8:36A]
  10. If a student is zoned for the new school, then he or she can transfer and be elgible immediately. However, if a student is transferring from a school to the new school and is coming from a residence not zoned for the new school, then he or she would have to sit out for a year. Athletes can participate in JV games however.
  11. I don't know a whole lot about this district except that McMinn Central supposed to be very good. Walker Valley has two very good posts in Cox and Morris. Does Central have two that can stop them? That will be the question. I agree with the post that said that Walker Valley needs to just play inside, inside, inside. Wear there defense down in there. That is how they beat a good Cleveland team. Go with the same game plan. Let Rominger get the ball down court then utilize Morris and Cox. My bet is on Central in a very close game, and only because they have the homecourt advantage. Is it on the radio?
  12. There are probably some districts out there just as tough as District 5AAA but there are few teams if any as tough as Bradley and Cleveland. Then you throw in Rhea County and Cumberland who can beat any team on a given night. McMinn has a team that can compete. Yes, this district may not be the toughest, but there are none any tougher. I would have to agree that Bradley probably has the edge on the other teams with their speed, talent and experience. But by the end of the year there may be some surprises.
  13. Oak Ridge girls by 14 and Bradley's boys by 20. Bradley girls can't handle medicre presses and now they are going up against the number one team and number one press in the state.
  14. First off let me say that I was very much impressed with Walker Valley's girls. They played hard and played with no fear the entire game. I think I was the one who said that a AA school should beat a AAA school and not worry about the classification. After all, both teams put five girls on the court. The difference, WVHS's five girls were more prepared to play than CHS. I thought that Clevelands girls played afraid all night long. (a little like WVHS boys). And Wow, what a player in Morris. She was the best on the court and Cox played with such hustle and grit. I like the way the gal plays. Those two were the difference in the game, no doubt. Everytime the ball went inside for CHS the posts were intimitdated and tried to throw it back out. As for the freshmen in the game, why didn't Coach Moore play her little freshmen guard the whole game? Could have made a difference. I have read about Walker Valley's Butler and Bradley's Pickel, but WOW-- this little gal from Cleveland can play. She was forcing things go happen for Cleveland. I Missed the first quarter of the girls game last night but I did get to look around for some of you "posters" on here. Morris, your girl is impressive, and only a sophmore?? 23's mom, I think I saw you there last night. Peacemaker, Morgan's mom??? Don't know you but sure you were there. Mrs. Wareagle, saw you cheering for the Mustangs and your son at the game. Pitino, still trying to figure you out. Thinking you were there standing by the steps.. Was I correct? Laythesmackdown, I am still assuming that you are a parent of a Mustang, perhaps, Rominger, Butler or Cox? Still don't get your animosity toward the working class using a computer though. Amberoni and Chuck, saw you both there. lwhite? were you sitting on Walker Valley's side? Think I gotcha figured out. This is kinda fun. What did you all think of the boys game? Cleveland and Bradley will be a great matchup. Congratulation Lady Mustangs again on the big win. Keep up the good work and don't let down and let some team that is not as good as you sneak up on you.
  15. I still would have to say that Hare, Pickel and Pugh from Bradley Central would be a hard threesome to beat. These three rank up there with some of the best guards I have seen and I have been watching basketabll across the state and in the Chattanoga area for 50 years. I think by the end of the season these three will earn some respect from people across the state.
  16. Any predictions on this game. Last year the Oak Ridge Wildcats upset the Bears. Could the Bears be looking for revenge. This is a game I would love to see but am going to be out of town. I am picking the Bears by 8-10 points. Bradley has five equal players, something that most teams can't boast.
  17. These two teams face off in a county rivalry (not district) on Friday. Cleveland is picked to win their district and I think Walker Valley is picked to win there district. Any predictions on this game. I pick Cleveland by quite a few. They have a remarkable coach, lots of speed, good outside shooting, a great post, and lots of confidence. The fact that the game is on Walker Valley's homecourt will help the Mustangs but not enough to win. I pick the Raiders by 15.
  18. This should be a good game to watch. Buckaloo and Rogers are two of the best guards in AAA ball. Walker Valley has a great record and will probably lose only a handful of games this year. However, they have yet to play any team of quality. I thnk the schedule that they play will hurt them when playing teams like CHS. But I will give this to them though, if they can beat CHS they will earn my respect. Although Walker Valley plays in a lower classification than CHS, the number of students differs by less than 200. I would say that Walker Valley should be able to compete in all sports with them. Can't make it to this game-got to be out of town or I would surely be there. This is the game of the week. Cox vs. Botts, Rogers vs. Rominger, and Buckaloo vs. (sorry, I don't know any of the other players at Walker Valley). Only because I know CHS and the quality of teams they have played I will pick them to win, but it will not surprise me if Walker Valley pulls an upset on there homecourt. I am afraid the Lady Raiders may have some "jealousies" within the team. Soemthing that Coach Moore should take care of soon if the Lady Raiders are to advance to another level.
  19. I don't know about the best but if there is a better duo than Pickel and Hare at Bradley Central, then I would like to see them. They score, they rebound, they make steals and they pass. I think that with Cory Pugh (young brother of Alphonso) they most definitely have the bst threesome in the state. I was also impressed with the inside game of Suiter and the other post. They certainly beat a more experienced and older good McAllie team Saturday and did not struggle doing so. It will be tough to shut them down this year. The Cleveland duo of Sharpe and Cooper may give some teams a challenge. Cleveland had to play without both Cooper and Davis this weekend. Put them with Sharpe and they are going to be a tough act. Can't wait to see the Bradley/ Cleveland matchup. I see a split this year with the tourney deciding a trip to substate.
  20. Didn't get a chance to see Friday's games but was very impressed with Cleveland High's girls. On the boys board there is a thread about the best duo in the state... In the girls, it has to be the duo of Buckaloo and Rogers. Buckaloo may be the best all around player I have seen in a while. Much improved from last season, and Rogers can light up the three's. Watching Bradley's girls and CHS girls Saturday, it is hard for me to imagine how Cleveland's girls lost by two to the same team that Bradley lost by one to. Maybe I just saw a bad game for Bradley, but they are going to have to be able to find five people that can get the ball across the halfcourt line. The press killed them in the second half of the game. Watch for the Cleveland duo to do some great things this season.
  21. That should indicate that next season we should see a good varsity team. Great! I think Cleveland has a strong JV too but haven't heard one way or the other about Bradley's JV.
  22. Cleveland is probaly the most talented team in the Chattanooga area. With Holly Rogers, Tiffany Buckalew and Allison Radar, they will be a team to be reckoned with. Coach Moore has done a wonderful job turning this program around. I agree that not much can be determined in scrimmages except that coaches make decisions about which players are ready to play in game situations and they can see what needs to be worked on in practices. As for the strength between AAA and AA, I think the difference is in game in and game out AAA plays tougher teams. However, McMinn Central is in what I consider one of the weakest districts in the state and it has never hurt them. You can count on them to be in the state most every year and representing District 5AA very well, may I add. I think that teams like McMinn Central, Jackson County, York Institute, Livingston can play with any AAA team year after year. The difference does not lie within the strength of an individual team, rather in the strength of the teams in which they play night after night. I hope to see Walker Valley eventually make a name for itself right up there with Central. They certainly have the players coming to them from Ocoee (formerly Bradley Junior). Rumor has it that the 8th grader from there will be a future Miss Basketball. That and a trip to the state would sure give WVHS a name up there with the Bradleys and McMinn Centrals from this area. I would love to see the strong teams in this area all in a tournament (Cleveland, Bradley, Brainerd, McMinn County and Central, Walker Valley) In this immediate area, those are the only teams that can play. I have watched them all for many years. After these teams, it falls to NOTHING, and that is in all classifications, not simply A or AA. Good luck to all the above mentioned teams. Season opens soon! 23. Nobody really knows why any player quits and really does it matter? A team can play as long as there is five willing players that want to be out there. People make too much out of it when a player quits. Many didn't want to be there to begin with, it was the parents desire, not the kid's. Many quit to pursue other sports, because they know they are better at another. Many quit because they don't see eye to eye with a coach, and many quit simply because they don't want to play. You all don't need to place blame on these girl or on the coaches. Just say that the player quit and be done with it. I get tired of reading posts on here about this subject. Like you all are trying to place blame.
  24. I watched much basketball last year and I think that Cara Reed, formerly Rhea County, now at Cookeville is the best all-around junior I have seen. She rebounds, is a ball handler, plays defense and set all scoring records as a sophmore. I am sure there are many good juniors out there, Tiffany Buckalew, Fallon Lee, Ashley Hardaway, etc. but I think Cara is the best all-round one.
  25. Is this new girl, the Hare girl, as good as Justin? Is she strong? She may just take the Bearettes to the state instead of substate this year. It's time to take that step past substate. Looking forward to seeing both the Bears and the Bearettes in Murfreesboro this year.
