  1. I have Laws as being tied with Godwin for the top point guard and top passer categories. I will agree with you in that Laws is underrated. He plays extremely hard and can score in a variety of ways.
  2. Note that I may have a few ties in my rankings since it is so early and I have not had the chance to see most of these players over a couple of times this season. 1. Godwin/Laws- Both these players understand how to score but more importantly how to distribute the basketball. 2. Walden/Allen- These players are very similar and while Allen may be the better outside shooter, Wladen has a more well-rounded game offensively. 3. Wright- Has perhaps as much upside as anyone in the distrcit and will be a great player if he learns to control his emotions on the court. 4. Rich- Is better right now than Capps because of his touch and agressive but smart play on the defensive end. 5. Capps- This is the easiest to call. Capps is the best leaper in 7A since Randy Rice. 6. Ferrell- Is a blur on the court but he gets lost at times on the offensive end. When he is scoring Clay County is virtually unbeatable. 7. Godwin/Laws- see #1. 8. Snow- Has really improved his game since this time last year as he has shown the ablity to take over games. 9. Walden/Buckner- Walden is the unquestioned leader of the favorites, but I really like the way Buckner handles himself on the court. He doesn't get much credit because he plays for Monterey but he is the type of player every coach would love to have. 10. Is way too early to determine this one. Clay County has three players (Godwin,Walden,Rich) who could win the award while Jackson County's Blake Allen could also get some consideration if the Blue Devils can split with Clay and win the rest of their district games.
  3. I will agree in that a double technical was probably the right call to make because it was obvious Wright did something to provoke Godwin. Like Dawg05 said, we all expect that out of Wright but Godwin needs to learn to walk away from that type of situation. The game was out of reach and Wright was frustrated so he ran his mouth as he always does. Godwin showed immaturity be not walking away. As for the intentional foul, it was the right call. Godwin had no intensions of going after the ball. And I don't think he was trying to hurt Capps, he just didn't want someone to dunk on his homecourt. An intentional foul is usually the price you have to pay if you try and prevent a breakaway like that. P.S. My money would have been on Capps in that fight. It would have been over with in a hurry.
  4. I agree with you RBS fans in that they do have the talent to compete with Jackson County and Clarkange. What sets them apart from RBS, however, are the head coaches. Brown and Rogers are two of the most successful coaches in the history of Tennessee high school basketball. Larry White just isn't on the same level. This is not a knock on White because I don't know if there is another coach in the state who is on the same level as Brown and Rogers.
  5. I have only had the privilege of seeing Chism play once and that was on TV in last year's state finals. For those who see him play each week, is he ready to contribute right away in the SEC and do you see him fitting the style of play that Bruce Pearl likes to play? Thanks for any info.
  6. Clarkrange lost any chance they had of winning this game when Clay County dominated Pickett County on Tuesday night. Coach Bibb will have the Bobcats focused and I wouldn't bet on them losing two in a row. It would be nice to see the upset, but I think Pickett County will win by by 16-18.
  7. Jackson County definitely has the talent to beat Upperman, especially with the game being in Gainesboro. They need to slow the game down and take advantage of their team height. I know it is early but I would not be surpised to see an all District 7A State Championship game come March. Jackson County and Clarkrange both have the talent to meet up on Saturday in the Murphy Center.
  8. Hermitage Springs has absolutely no chance in this game unless...no nevermind. I couldn't even think of anything to make up. I will say, however, that Hermitage Springs is better this year than they have been in quite some time. Let's just be thankful that Hermitage Springs and Celina High Schools didn't combine back a couple of years ago. This year's Clay County team would be scary if you throw in a couple of very nice role players form Hermitage Springs to go with the talent they already have.
  9. I was at the game and unlike most was a neutral fan last night. I had a good angle on that last play when she took the shot and I can assure you that she did not walk. She might have stepped out of bounds (I was on the other end and other side), but I know that she took the two steps a shooter is allowed to take. The most annoying thing in the world at basketball games is when biased fans yell the entire game for a walk to be called on the opposing teams. Pickett County's fans are some of the worst in the world at doing this, but sometimes a player makes a perfectly legal move and Wright did in this instance. Again, I cannot vouch for her being out of bounds, but let's put to rest the notion that she traveled.
  10. The only reason I joined was to try and bring some sanity to this thread. I have read the message boards on CoachT for a long time but just haven't felt the need to post. I am a neutral fan between these two teams, it's just that Dawg05 has no idea what he is talking about. I am just trying to encourage him to have an open mind when it comes to other teams. Celina has had some great teams in the past with some really talented players. Pickett County has also had some great teams and great players. Will this Clay County team one day be mentioned in the same breath as the great Bulldog teams of the past? Only time will tell, but I know they certainly have the potential to go a long way this season.
  11. To Dawg 05: Have you ever heard this saying? "It is better to be thought of as a fool than to speak and remove all doubt." You have proven this statement to be correct by saying some absolutley uneducated stuff on here. You obviously don't know much about basketball. You said that Walden and Chase Stephens are better than Mitchell, Parris, Amonette, Aarron, Crouch, and Asberry. That is crazy. Those two Clay County players don't even hold a candle to these six. Here's saying you didn't play much basketball because you know absolutely nothing about talent.
  12. This thread has gotten way out of hand. Obviously Clay County is the better team and should win this game handily, especially with it being at Celina. This is Clay County's year to make a run in the tournament and it would be a major upset if they lose a district game this season, much like it was with Pickett County last year. Don't get me wrong, Pickett County does have a talented team but they are clearly a year or two away from reaching their full potential. I hate seeing these fans who always pick their school to win no matter what. Pickett County fans: accept it that Clay is a better team this year and just hope that you can pull off the upset. Clay County fans: you should win this game so just take the win in stride because if not, then it will come back to haunt you at some point down the road. Good luck to both teams.
