  1. I do not think they should change the number of teams who make the state tournament. One change I think they need to make is the way they pair the teams up in the brackets. Personally, I would rather see them draw out the pairings like they used to do. This added a little intrigue to the week and assured everyone a fair chance when they got to the state tournament. No one could complain about their pairings because it was just the "luck of the draw." Besides, it doesn't matter when teams play each other. In the end, the best team is going to win the tournament.
  2. Clay County's starting lineup looks like this: 5'9'' Ferrell 5'10'' Godwin 5'10'' Walden 6'1'' Kerr 6'5'' Rich They also bring two guys off the bench: 5'11'' Knight 6'0'' Hewitt As for the game, I look for Clay County to win this one. I watched Wayne County last year against Pickett County, and I believe Wayne lost three starters off that team. Clay will be too much in the end. I look for them to pull away in the fourth just like they always do. Clay by 12.
  3. It is early to project next season, but here are my predictions: 1. RBS- return all but one player off a state tournament team. Jordan will be missed but I look for the other players to improve and make up for the loss. Also, Leonard will be a year older which will allow her to be stronger and more mature. They appear to have all the pieces in place for another run next season. 2. Jackson County- lose three starters off the possible state championship team this season.. Dyer, Maxwell, and Sevier will team with 6'6'' Ferris to form a very balanced lineup. Look for this team to be the best defensive team in the district. 3. Clarkrange- will be a down year by their standards, but there is still plenty of talent to finish in the top tier of this district. Phillips will be the go-to player, but the Buffaloes will need some help handling the ball. 4. Clay County- only lose two players, albeit a very good one in Watson. Plenty of talent returns led by probably the most athletic player in the district, Copas, and two very capable guards. 5. Pickett County- return three starters and should improve in their second season under Painter. This team could be dangerous if Smith learns to play closer to the basket and Wright decides to play hard and use her teammates. 6. Monterey- showed some flashes this season, but will miss Harris. I don't expect much next season, but Adkins did prove to be a big-time scorer at times. 7. Hermitage Springs- the loss of King will hurt more than losing any other player in the district. She did more for her team than anyone else, so I don't look for them to win a game in the district.
  4. From a non-RBS fan, I want to congratulate the Lady Bulldogs on a great season. I watched you girls play on numerous occasions this year and I was always impressed with the way your team acted on the court. Best of luck next season. Keep working and don't just assume that you will get another chance next season at the Murphy Center. The other teams will be gunning for you now, so be sure to work even harder in the offseason.
  5. I agree with you TopDawg in that a team should not openly cheer against another team at any game. I can understand these girls not wanting RBS to win today because they are teenagers and yes, jealousy does play a part in it. These teams would have given anything to be there playing today but they also probably didn't want a team from their district or region to do well in the tournament. I am sure this happens all the time at the state tournament, but it is disappointing that they would openly cheer against RBS.
  6. Yeah, who is that in the picture? That guy can really get up!
  7. 45-42 Forrest with 12 seconds left and RBS turned it over after a timeout. Forrest makes one of two from the free throw line to win 46-42.
  8. 30-29 RBS at the end of the third quarter.
  9. 24-23 RBS lead with 3:30 left in the third quarter.
  10. I guess I was wrong if two people from Jackson County believe that Cassety made it. My mistake.
  11. I agree 100% with you, Bob77. There are enough good teams in our area for RBS to play. I recommend they set up a couple of games with both Upperman and Livingston next year. Both of these teams will be good, but I believe RBS can hold their own. If you are out there Larry White, drop Watertown and Trousdale County and add these two teams to next year's schedule. I promise it will help you out in the long run. Here's another suggestion: I know you all have your own Christmas tournament, but if you can fit it in your schedule, play in the Mid-South Classic in Cookeville. This is the best tournament in the area and will help prepare your girls for postseason play.
  12. No, I don't believe Cassety made the all-tournament team. I think it was Crowder from Jackson County. Also, I believe it was Gibson who made it from Pickett County. I may be wrong on these two, but I am also pretty sure that Pickett got three.
  13. I will try and get as many right as I can. If I miss any or leave anyone out, then someone correct me. MVP-Courtney Dyer JC Kris Ross JC Kristi Apple JC Laken Leonard RBS Ashton Gentry RBS Kelly Rich RBS Jordan Ramsey Clarkrange Ashley Howard Clarkrange Meghan Watson Clay County Williams girl from Clay County (not sure on her first name)
  14. I think this will be a close game throughout with Red Boiling Springs winning in the final minutes. I was looking on Forrest's schedule and they have beaten some good teams and played well against some tough competition. They seem to have a good team, but I think RBS will be too much down the stretch. And as for jamieroper, you obviously have not seen Leonard play in a while. She is their best player right now and seems to get better each game. She is pretty much unstoppable in a one-on-one matchup. Just ask Clarkrange and Jackson County. I am sure they will tell you that you have to double team her or she will score almost every time. I don't care if she is in second grade, this girl can play. Good luck RBS and also Jackson County. Here's hoping for an all 7A final.
  15. I don't believe I was chewing you out, I was just saying that it isn't fair to say Jackson County would have won more in A. I definitely think they would have, and I even said that in my last post, but that is only if they had the same team. All I was trying to say in the first place is that Jackson County probably wouldn't have had the same team if they had been in A. Don't get mad at me for just stating the facts. I have nothing against the Jackson County program and I was cheering for them throughout the four-peat. I really enjoyed watching those girls play and I think Jim Brown is a great coach. By the way, I think Shelbyville would have won more state championships in the 1990s had they been in A.
  16. Man those Celina teams really were good back in the mid 80's. They just picked the wrong years to have a great team. Was it Bolton they kept running into at the state tournament?
  17. I don't believe height is everything in basketball. I was talking to someone who has seen both teams play and they said that Temple likes to press the entire game and that Grace prefers a slower pace. I have seen Pickett County play three times this season and I know that they are more effective in a halfcourt game. They do like to get baskets in transition but a fast-paced game definitely does not suit them. They are thin on the bench, so fatigue would be a factor against a team like Temple. Also, a fast-paced game typically produces more fouls and foul trouble will also hurt a team with a short bench like Pickett. I think the Pickett fan was right earlier when he/she said that Pickett will match up better against Grace. With that being said, I still don't think the Bobcats will have enough to pull off the upset. I'll take Grace by 16.
  18. I may be wrong, but I thought the guy on the radio said both teams had 14 fouls at the end of the first half. It sounded like the refs were too picky and turned the game into a free throw shooting contest.
  19. You need to understand what I was saying before you start jumping to conclusions. Bob77 made the comment that Jackson County would have won more state championships had they been in A. What I said to that comment is that it is impossible to make that assumption because Jackson County was in AA at the time and obviously for them to be in A, they would have to lose some students. And when they lost a certain number of students, who knows which girls might be in this group. We will never know if they would have won more state championships in A, because we will never know which students they would have been forced to give up to move down a class. Now I agree that those Jackson County teams with Andrea Davidson would have dominated the state tournaments in A just like they did in AA. But you need to realize that they weren't in A. They had too many students to be in A.
  20. Wow, I am impressed that you can read. If you look back on my posts, you will see that i used such words as "assume" and "pretend" so yes, my comment is an assumption. Again, you think that I am bashing Jackson County for their accomplishment. That couldn't be farther from the truth. I commended them for winning four straight state titles. I just said that we cannot assume that they would have won more championships had they been in A. And that is a FACT. It is a FACT that they would have lost students had they been in A. Can you do the math? I'll help you out a little. If a school is in AA, they have more students enrolled than a A school.
  21. The reason I said what I did is because someone made the comment that Jackson County would have won more state championships had they been in A. I just stated that is impossible to assume that because of some possible factors I mentioned. I agree that four consecutive state championships is a remarkable feat and I have a lot of respect for those players and coaches who accomplished this. All I was saying was that if Jackson County had been in A, it probably would have come at the expense of a couple of players. I mean they would have lost a number of students which more than likely would have included two or three basketball players. Get your facts straight before you get on here and question me like that. I was not saying anything negative about those Jackson County teams.
  22. It doesn't matter what class you are in when talking about state championships. There is a reason why Jackson County was in AA, and that is because they had a similar enrollment as the rest of the AA schools. It is all relative in that if you can win a A state championship, then you can also win a AA or AAA state campionship because you will add more students and as a result more quality basketball players as you move up in classes. You cannot say that Jackson County's championships are more impressive than Clarkrange's because let's pretned Clarkrange's enrollment is increased by 150 students or so. This new group of students might include Brandi Brown from York. If that was the case then Clarkrange would be able to play with any AA team in the state. I would venture to guess that Lamar would have gotten two AA state championships out of Brown. This thoery can work in the other way as well. Let's assume that Jackson County's enrollment in the late 90's-early 2000's decreased enough to move down to A. If Andrea Davidson and/or Marissa Hensley was one of those students who was no longer at Jackson County High School, then you could say they would have captured one, maybe two state championships in A instead of the four-peat. Again, it is impossible to compare state championships in different classes.
  23. I know this is a little bit off topic, but I have been keeping up with Hassell in the box scores all season. It is amazing how she is able to play at such a high level as a freshman. How big is she and is she getting looks from any big-time programs, most notably Tennessee.
  24. It is amazing how you can say that Pickett County would have lost to Clarkrange had they played them. It is impossible to predict that, and by the logic you are going by, you couldn't be more wrong. What you are doing is assuming Clarkrange would have played just as well against Pickett County as they did against Clay County. What you failed to mention is that Pickett County ran all over the same Jackson County team that beat Clay County just six days earlier. Just admit that Clay County did not play well and quit throwing it off on someone else. As for tonight's game, I see Clay County taking this one. I believe they will be focused and will probably shoot the ball better than in their first game at Upperman.
  25. If Clay County had the greatest team ever, then how did they do "just fine" in the tournament when they lost in the sub-state. Clay County has had some very good teams, so I don't think you could classify that team as the "greatest ever." Man, you Clay County fans are so ignorant.
