  1. Hey reitzneck, just a quick reply to your well thought comments. I haven't attended a (TN) state tournament game in over 20 years, so I guess I was "blind" to the game. I would think a seemingly smart fella wouldn't call a man he'd never met a fool though, but like I said, you do seem very smart. As for my comments, they were based on the methods I instruct at coaches and officials clinics I lead in two southeastern states, and certainly weren't intended to be read as "crying". But you are barking up the wrong tree my friend if you think I don't understand the prison style of basketball. I understand it all too well. Good day my mensa friend.
  2. If I were Tribeh8ter, I probably wouldn't offer any further opinions. It seems you know all the answers, about all teams from all corners of the staete, so why should anyone reply to your knowledgeable opinion? Just been reading the thread, and you seem to have strong opinions, so I'll share mine. Have a nice day.
  3. When you're playing 10-12 kids of relatively equal (good) ability, who reach, slap, and grab and play hands all over it's pretty easy for the opposition to reach the 30 foul shot plateau. On the other hand, when you have a somewhat slim bench you can't afford to foul. Thus, the difference in the calls. Anyone who would say otherwise is a moron with little to no knowledge of the game. Great year Chargers! I love you guys!
  4. Yes, I agree this place is not for the faint of heart. What I enjoy the most is the spelling, and I'm not talking about PM lingo. I'm talking about high school kids that can't spell shet, I mean shat. I am the biggest high school basketball fan in the world, but guys, please do your studies as valiantly as you do your posts. It'll help you in the future. As for Class A needing further declassifying, get a grip. Some schools would cry if a school of 200 students beat them. I think private schools having their own classes is great, but that's as far as I'd go. As we say here in the mountains, just practice up and come back.
  5. Too bad west Tennessee, or for that matter, Tennessee as a whole, can't say that at the college level. Maybe this year that'll change, but with the Vols showing against Winthrop, I doubt it. We'll see how the Tigers fare.
  6. I tell you something that pi__ed me pretty bad today on that Tennessee Sports Network (?), they called us McMinn the whole first half. Actually, they did it on and off the whole game. I kept laughing, but a few times they did say McMinn Central. They kept repeating how smooth Beau was, just in different ways. WE ARE McMINN CENTRAL. They may really have it right by Saturday night.
  7. Thanks. I was planning on being there tomorrow, but I've got the flu bug pretty bad. I enjoyed listening on CoachT today though. I was really impressed we were able to overcome the abysmal performance from 3 land. I have a really good feeling about tomorrow. You guys pull them through. I know we can do it.
  8. Can you tell me who the Harper kids parents are?
  9. I hope you're kidding. I don't really see any of the four AA teams left putting up 100 on one another. Central beat Alcoa in a bad game for them. Alcoa beat Austin East in the regionals, and Liberty beat A-E by 2 during the regular season. I think Liberty may have trouble if Central decides to play defense, otherwise it'll be a shootout. Go Chargers, chop them down one tree at a time!
  10. Dude, whatever happened to "Nuts and Bolts", and "Gold Shirts-Black Britches"? We did the same type thing in the early 80's, and the parents and administrators loved it. I did get called into Mr. Quirk's office each Monday and Wednesday morning for a debriefing so to say. Anytime you showed your a__ in a negative way, he'd jerk you up and take you out of the gym; because he did it to me during the '83 regionals against Loudon. I begged him to let me stay for the second half, and he let mestay, but I sit with him of all things. I had him cracking up by the end of that game. I think what all us old timers want for you guys to remember is you'll have these memories for a lifetime, so make the best of this run, and cheer like crazy. The garbage cheer might have came from the Cameron Crazies though. Let's let them keep it. Peace out! lol.
  11. This game could be 30+ point differential if Cloudland loses its head. Cloudland has some height and a couple of kids that have just started hitting the three. I saw them in a Christmas tournament and I still can't believe they're now this far. If UC has anything they will be fine. Just don't overlook the Highlanders. I'd say Uc by 18 due to the coach being kind.
  12. From this quote, it would seem the team wasn't playing too hard on defense to be allowing layup after layup. I would think both these teams play the same style and tempo that Howard has a history of playing from our area (southeast Tn). Saying that style equals defense all over the floor is stretching it. They just want an up and down game benefiting athletes, versus setup basketball benefiting thinkers and doers. Just my humble take, but helter skelter aint basketball.
  13. Thanks C-Red for the info. Which area are you closer to, Central or Alcoa? Just wondering.
  14. Tribe h8r, congrats! What will the Alcoa matchup be like? Any common opponents? Alcoa still an up and down the court team? Just wondering.
  15. Sorry about the trash comment, too; but can I congratulate my Chargers. Awesome, and sorry I missed it. Can you guys tell me when they'll be playing? Also heard the ladies advanced to the Elite 8. I must say Coach Morgan is, and always has been, a deceptive dude. He is so good, but he hopes everybody thinks he's just a goofy guy. Anyway, when do the boys play? Roll Blue!!!
  16. I read a post last week that said his father reported Mars Hill College in western NC is the only firm offer; but another thread listed UTC, and a couple of SEC schools. Wake Forest could probably use him this weekend, due to poor guard play, lol.
  17. Cloudland is a very small school, with a very small gym. They really must have came a long way over the last few weeks, as they began the season well under the .500 mark. I think they are still sub .500. Anyone know for sure? Maybe 10-12 on the season? They are tall, that's about all I can say from the one game I saw in a tournament at Christmas. Maybe they had someone move in or something. Good luck Landers in the Elite 8.
  18. Hey Tribe h8er: Just found out I have to attend an emergency meeting at 7:30 tonight here in NC, so I can't make it. I will be at the state tournament, I can assure you. Of course, I'm depending on the guys to pull out the game tonight at the roundhouse. Gosh, I hope it's as up as it was the night we played in "83. If so, we'll see you in a few days. GO CHARGERS!!! PS- Get me a post on here as soon as the game's over. Thanks. OH yeah, Duke lost, so Central's a shoe in!
  19. Thanks for the info. I'll get on the phone right now.
  20. What time does the Monday game begin, and what's the liklihood that two tickets could be held at the gate for an out of towner? I need help on this one bluenwhiteh8tribe?!
  21. I just witnessed the sectional finals in western North Carolina, and the teams were similar to this discussion: huge D-1 insiders vs. 6'3" flashing and 3-pt shooting guards. I won't say which won, but after an OT period it was settled. Probably the best game I've witnessed since hs. The problem with your argument is centers don't play guards, and vice versa. Guards can score 3 at a time when centers play the 2 game. Many other points. I would love to see Beau go to Mars Hill, only 30 minutes from me, and DII now btw. They have quality athletic programs, and a Christ centered campus, not a bad choice to have. Central will play well, and I think the west knows it, or they wouldn't be starting so many threads concerning Central. The best team will come through, so it'll be settled soon. Go Heels, Duke just lost! Yes, Central will roll.
  22. You know, I've watched this thread over the last few days, just waiting for the next stupid comment to be made. As for state titles, Central won multiple individual state track and field (both) titles during the early 1980's. So to say someone is lying is pretty stupid unless you know it. I know it, as I was there and saw the medal awards, and also have some pictures, too, if you'd like to see them. I was at Central when Polk won their girls title, and most Central fans were happy for them. We (the big blue) were only winning three district and two region titles in men's basketball during that time (4 yrs). Oh yeah, we lost to the eventual state champion Memphis East team (with 3 Division I signees) in the '83 Final Four. And if I remember correctly, or unless my annual is misprinted, we won three regionals in men's track and field from '81 to '83, and two in women's. Does Polk have a track team yet, or do they still go to school in the the same building they did 20 years ago? I'm not trying to be an a__hole here, just a realist. Intelligence would tell you a longstanding tradition of winning at many sports would gain you many enemies, while mediocrity with one state title will gain you a few folks who only remember one great year. One championship does not a dynasty build, just see Texas Southern!?! All you guys need to get a grip, get a life, and get over the reality that is the McMinn Central Chargers. And one more thing while I'm on the history lesson, if Coach Cornwall hadn't retired early in his career, he'd probably have 600 wins by now. I can all but assure you that! Peace out!!!!!
  23. Ref's are becoming more cocky as the year's go by, in my humble opinion. When I went through ref training courses (at a state university), the first day we were told two biggies: never look into the stands, and if you can't stand the heckling, get another job/hobby. Today, they seem to have the state patrol mindset of my way or the highway. As for threats, I hope the fan kicked his a after the game; but I can assure you the ref was leading the guy and had already set his pending removal up with the local cops. Been there, seen that. An old ref. :~) By the way, whatever happened to the refs who loved the game, and not the attention?
  24. Thanks guys for the input. I thought B. Brown was 6'3". Anyway, if the program is still the same way it used to be, I don't have to worry about opinions, I'll just go with what I know in my mind. I've never really known of a Central team that didn't play at least a little defense. I just think going through the Chattanooga end of the schedule shows they can compete with the "west", but I know how some view rural schools as less than competitive when facing inner-city schools. Throw it all on the table and let the chips fall where they may. I'll see them play myself very soon. Again, thanks guys.
