  1. My freshman year of high school and my 8th grade year Oliver Springs dominated teams for two years on their way to 2 state tournament appearances. This year OS's girls made the state semi-finals. OS's enrollment is 500 and they play in AA. Lets not forget the years that Harriman won the AA state title (enrollment around 450) and the year Sweetwater won AA (again, around 500). In fact the year Harriman won it, they beat Sweetwater in the finals. And while we're talking about population, Michigan has a total of 4 different classes for all sports w/ a statewide population of about 10 million. Tennessee can talk about adding another class in basketball when (and if) it gets that big.
  2. Tennessee is bigger by about 1 million people, not that much. BTW, Ashland Blazer has the most chapmionships in KY and is annually competeing to make KY's sweet 16 and would be in class AA in Tennessee.
  3. No, donvito, it's if a coach can help teach young people a strong set of values, whatever they might be, and help them to become respectful citizens. Winning is just a nice by-product.
  4. I don't like this idea. Fact is that there are only 12-15 guys on a basketball team, this makes it easier for smaller schools to compete w/ larger schools. A class system is needed in sports like football. That was evident this year when defending A champion CPA got killed by AAAAA state runner-up Riverdale. Also, I think adding another class would water basketball down. Look at Kentucky. There is no class system and as recently as 1996 Paintsville (enrollment 260) won a state championship in basketball.
  5. Some Bobcats will have something to say about the power of 7-AA tomorrow.
  6. Oliver Springs is 31-5 while playing the 17th toughest schedule in AA. OS by 12.
  7. OS gets up and down really well. Here's your stat of the day. Cheatham's schedule is ranked 64th in AA, OS's is ranked 17th.
  8. And OS has beaten LA, but LA doesn't want to admit it.
  9. Predictions? Information on both teams.
  10. Hope they make it to Saturday so I can see them play.
  11. Will the top two teams from 4-AA have a chance to win a region game this year? Is Scott Co. fielding a team this year?
  12. I doubt South Greene could do that. OS has already beaten Seymour in the playoffs. They did two years ago in the regional semis.
  13. Yeah, I agree kinda. I think those in after school activities are having their privacy violated without cause because they want to do something they love to do. They're being singled out.
  14. ELA, I think if you have to give in to this evil, your idea is best in that it doesn't single the student out. I'm still against testing of all kinds, but that idea is at least a middle ground. Another reason I don't like it is that most school cut corners as others have said. I know when I was in school, the only thing the county tested for was pot because it cost to much to test for narcotics and steroids (I always came up clean, btw, and would have even if they had tested for all substances).
  15. A small, rural school in East Tennessee like Cosby is probably every bit as Christian as CAK is. And no, Christians shouldn't be held to a higher standard because everybody, no matter your race, creed, or ethnicity is held to the same standards that society at large places on them and those that they place on themselves. This "higher standard" nonsense just leads to Bible Beaters holding their noses in the air.
  16. Unreasonable meaning without probable cause, not in terms of YOUR moral code. Random tests do not have probable cause. Just because it goes on in schools across the country every day does not mean it is in accordance with the IV amendment, the Supreme Court dropped the ball in this one. You do not abandon your constitutional rights when you enter a public school. Also, if you were to test the entire student body, you'd really run into legal trouble. You couldn't even hide behind the claim that you were testing those in after school activities.
  17. If someone suspects that you are ignorant, do not open your mouth and remove all doubt.
  18. Hold on LC, That problem boiled down to the fact that the British believed in virtual representation because England was a very homogeneous society. The colonists sought active representation because there were sweeping cultural differences over the large land mass of the colonies. And how does free speech not pertain to parliament? If you can't speak freely in the legislative body that governs you, your country's claim of freedom of speech is built on sand, isn't it? There was free speech in Stalin's Russia, do you think those who opposed him got voice their displeasure in the legislative process? BTW, I think it's illegal for the government to test its workers as well.
  19. The freedom of speech is debatable???????? You should be deported right now. That one amendment characterizes everything that America stands for. I bet that you would still claim to love "freedom". Freedom is listening to a man's ignorant ramblings (such as yours) make your blood boil to the point that you think you'll explode and then look him in the eye and tell him it's his right to voice his opinion before you present yours. The freedom of speech was one of the main reasons the American Revolution was staged, because the Brits wouldn't let the colonists voice their opinions in parliament. Companies are not extensions of the government, they can't criminally prosecute you. I think it's immoral if they do, but they're privately owned. Public schools are extensions of the government, and if there's not probable cause, drug tests violate the IV amendment. Private schools aren't extensions of the government and would have the right to randomly test. Again, I think it would be immoral, but they have the right. Yes, drug dealers, rapists, murders, and all other sorts of criminals should have the same rights as we do; until they're convicted of such crimes. Once they've served their terms, they should regain their constitutional rights.
  20. OS destroys Kingston and gets rewarded w/ A-E.
  21. The Constitution isn't about convicting or finding innocent those accused, it is there to protect certain universal rights and set forth to operating procedures of the government.
  22. LadyTigersMom, I'm against testing, but I'd let you come up here and test me right now.
  23. The fact is that drug testing is a search and you must have probable cause to perform a search. When you're testing an entire team and you don't have suspicion that any of them are using there is no probable cause. A police officer can't search your car for a speeding violation, however if he smells alcohol or pot when you roll down your window, he has probable cause and can then search your vehicle. It's two different standards. I know how the Supreme Court ruled, but I personally think they dropped the ball. I can't figure the Court out. They got it right when they struck down anti-sodomy laws that violated civil rights, but repressed civil rights in these drug testing cases and when they upheld Affirmative Action. I hope to God they get it right and strike down the Patriot Act if and when somebody challenges it. Also, to whoever it was talking about religion being taken out of the state. Thank God. The I amendment says what it says and the Supreme Court HAS gotten that one right. You speak of our founders praying to God, which I'm sure they did, but how well do you know the founders? Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin, two of the most influential founders, were both Deist, meaning that they believed in a "clock-maker God". In short, they believed that God created the universe and then performed no more miracles, meaning they didn't believe in Noah's Flood, the parting of the Red Sea, and they certainly didn't believe in Christ's resurrection from the grave. Roger Williams, a Puritan, founded Rhode Island on the principle of complete separation of church and state because he believed dabbling in political affairs would taint the church, and it would. He did this BEFORE the American Revolution. If you need an example of how corrupt and oppressive a country becomes when it rules by religion, look at Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan when it was ruled by the Taliban.
