  1. Great player with not enough help to overcome one of the most athletic A teams in the state. When Humboldt can be as good as they want to be. Good luck to both teams in substate.
  2. I agree this is a good match. The only problem is that Mitchell is quite a bit bigger than Liberty, i feel there would be an advantage inside for Mitchell, still a heck of a match though.
  3. I have seen them play Jackson South Side before christmas, Oxford in New Albany, MS and Crockett County. They did play good defense against Crockett, but not so much against the other two. Just so you know, I don't think Bolivar will win it all gain, maybe the tomcats can be the one to end their run. I think a rematch of Haywood Mitchell would make for one heck of a championship game.
  4. I am in no way saying that. I am well aware that Haywood beat Bolivar because i was going to go but i didn't want to have to watch the girls and i knew that is the only way i could have gotten in the gym. I am just basing my assumption on how the two teams have played recently. I have seen both in the last 10 days and Bolivar played better than Haywood. No disrespect whatsoever to Haywood, i love watching them, Varnado, Liggins, Taylor, Comage and the whole gang are very good. On the other hand, Bolivar knows how to play when the games matter. I am not saying who will win. I just know it will be wild when they play and west tn will be deep in the Murphy Center. I just hope none of the west tn teams get upset.
  5. Great Matchups, just one round too soon, but oh well. Least we will get to see them play each other, and the two best in Bolivar and Mitchell are in oppsite brackets and it won't be a repeat of two years ago when the two best AA teams in Bolivar and Raleigh Egypt played in the first round.
  6. Here's how i see the AA state bracket playing out. Bolivar beats Liberty tonight. Both win substate. Haywood will beat Fayette Ware. Haywood wins substate. Mitchell over Hillcrest. Mitchell wins over Fayette Ware in substate. Wedensday 3/15 7:00PM Mitchell vs. Liberty Thursday 3/16 10:30AM Bolivar vs. Haywood Does anybody else think it's ludacris that the four best teams play each other in the first round. least it will get more people to Murfreesboro early in the week.
  7. Not so sure about Union City winning their old district. Crockett and Dyersburg are no easy match. Both of those teams are athletic and shoot it well from outside. Union City were it still in AA probably would had pulled a repeat of last year. Great regular season only to be beaten by Ripley in the first round of the region. Be happy u are in A. Much easier to compete without size down there than in AA.
  8. I'm sure coach Varnado was there to watch the winner of the Hillcrest game. Call me crazy but unless Markeith Wilson gets crazy hot like he did the other night against Dyersburg, Haywood will probaly host Hillcrest. I just hope Mitchell can keep from getting upset because personally i feel they are the best AA team in the state. They are big, deep, fast, can shoot, run well. This is a very dangerous team playing with a chip on their shoulder after last year's early out against Haywood in there gym for substate which is a very tough place to play. I look foreward to seeing Mitchell in the boro.
  9. In comparison to the team two years ago that made it to state, is McMinn better, worse, the same??? How well do you fell they will be at matching players like Haywood's Jarvis Varnado 6'9 Mississippi State Bolivar's Wayne Chism 6'9 240 Tennessee signee or Mitchell's 6'8 200 Thad Young Georgia Tech signee top 5 player in the nation??
  10. Derek Sain from Humboldt. He was injured in the second quarter against Halls.
  11. I think this isn't a good way to match up the teams for the state tournament. Two years ago the best AA game was the first round game between Bolivar and Raleigh Egypt on wedensday night. This year could be the same way. I like it better than the way it was done in the past but i do feel some system of ranking the teams so the two best would only meet in the final would make for the best tournament. What's your opnion?
  12. Is McMinn any better than they were the last time they were at state??? Mitchell has 3 DI signees, Thaddeous Young Georgia Tech, Brandon Powell Florida, Andre Thorton Central Florida. Liberty's Brandon Evans has signed with Murry State. Bolivar, Haywood, Liberty and Mitchell all have their rosters on here. Have a look. What kind of size does McMinn have??
  13. Man did Ridgeway mess up by letting Wooddale beat them. I wanted a Hamilton Ridgeway game, but not until next game. Ridgeway is good, but i just don't see it happening for them. Hamilton is on a mission and i don't really know if anyone besides Hamilton can stop it. How big would Pierre Niles be in this one?
  14. This should be a good one. Hate i'll miss it. I know Weddle will get his for UC. I'm going to give you people someone to watch for. Some of you know but for those of you that don't, Kelsey Rose is capable of taking completely over a game at the A level. He can rebound, average dribbler, shoot and pass. The other night at South Fulton, Rose was the reason that Humboldt was even in the game. Without Toylon Smith the Vikings didn't have much of a scoring threat outside of Rose. I feel if he hadn't run out of gas in the end, it might have been a different outcome. Rose on the boards looks like a man amoung boys. No disrespect to Xavier Robinson, but he is no match for the bigger, stronger Rose. Humboldt is one of those teams that if they put together a good game and they set their mind to it, they can go all the way. Humboldt is the only team that can beat themselves at the A level. This is going to be a great game. Does anyone know the status of Sain?
  15. I agree Bolivar travels very well. I went to school at McNairy and remember when i was in junior high Bolivar dropped down from AAA to AA. They have been in our district ever since. They have always had great fan support. Not only have they had great fans, they have had some pretty good ball players as well. Ashley Champion, Rashad Smith, Cameron Crisp, Nick Bearegaurd, James McNeal and Brian Lake to name a few "no disrespect to whoever i left off, these are just a few i could think of from the top of my head." I really don't see a drop off anytime soon either. Outside of Willie, Wayne, and Jerry Griffin, they are very young. Bolivar has just two juniors on the roster, and only one of them plays much. They love their tigers in Bolivar.
  16. I know Bolivar won and all, but don't think just because they beat Sycamore bad they are a shoe in to win it all. One might want to talk to the boys from Mitchell or Haywood to see what they think about putting Bolivar on the trophy. Congrats to the tigers, but seriously, take it one game at a time. If you don't think that is a good idea, ask Mitchell about what happened to them last year or ask GW Carver, the second best AA team in Memphis, about overlooking teams.
  17. I wasn't able to attend the games from saturday night in Lexington because i went to Ripley for the region 7AA games. I was curious to how the Sycamore Lexington game went. I didn't think Lexington was great but i did think they were quite capable of winning. I am curious as to what some of the 12AA fans think about Sycamore. No trash or dogging them, strait up tell me what you think.
  18. I agree with you on how they will have to play to win. I also feel another thing that would help them and would have all year long is getting Tyrus Mann to play inside where he belongs. He is the best rebounder and probably the most athletic player McNairy has. Not as polished as Bingham, but very athletic. I know he can shoot from outside but i feel his outside shooting would be very effective if he was to run trailer on secondary break. If whoever was bringing the ball up the floor, espically if it was Bingham, would drive the lane until he was stopped and kicked it back out to Mann he would be wide open. If that wasn't there, Mann should be closer to the goal. The problem is that this is yet to happen.
  19. If Toylon Smith is playing as well as he did last night against Halls i will have to say Humboldt. The lack of size Union City has will hurt them rebounding. Humboldt will need a big game from Kelsey Rose and Derek Sain as well. The one area that Union City has the advantage is the fact that Humboldt is yet to play any kind of defense what so ever. Evident by the 25 points DeMarcus Patrick scored while connecting on 5 threes. No disrespect to Patrick but if they don't get someone all over Weddle, I look for him to keep Union City in the game. Humboldt wins in a very tight game, probably no more than 8-10 point margin.
  20. Union City led by as many as 16 early in the fourth quarter and Lake County fought back to make it a game. Thanks in large part to a lot of missed Union City free throws and Tony Mosley not being able to hit anything. I think he missed 6-10 shots in the second half of the game. Weddle fouled out with about 49 seconds left. I don't remember everything but Lake County had the ball with 9 seconds remaining down by three. Whoever brought the ball up the floor for them took what is in my opnion not the best shot with 5 seconds left and missed. Xavier Robinson secured the rebound for Union City and dribbled to half court to end the game. I felt coach Whitby would have drawn up a better play and had either of the two other gaurds in the game take the shot but hey, he's been coaching a long time. It looked like a rout when Lake County battled back. Lake County had a great season and it was a shame someone had to lose the game. The Halls Humboldt game was also a great game. Humboldt did their damage on offensive rebounds. The Vikings had a 50-25 advantage rebounding, 30 of which were offensive. All of this without 6-5 center Derek Sain. Halls wouldn't go away but in the end Humboldt was too athletic and Halls lack of depth and size cost them. Feel free to add details to my Lake County Union City story because i have seen 12 games in the last 8 days so they are starting to run together.
  21. The video is still on the site. I have seen Hamilton play and was well aware that they had a lot of talent. What i didn't know is that when the three wildcats broke the backboard that Jermey Williams was the one who thew it off the backboard and wasn't involved in tearing the rim down. What amazed me further is that Joseph Watkins was on the bench at the time. I knew Hamilton was big, but to have three kids in the game at the same time outside of Watkins and Williams that can get up like that is just sick. This is a testament to the depth and size of the teams that come out of Memphis every year.
  22. I don't agree that Ken Bingham is amazing. He is an above average player but to say he is amazing is a little much. I have seen him play against good teams and he has done ok but nothing that set him apart from the rest of the team. I would like for someone who knows to post his carreer numbers against Liberty, Bolivar and Middleton, teams McNairy plays year in and year out. Just want to know how he fares against good competition and not the weaker teams on the schdule. Just so you know, i am a McNairy Alum so i don't have a biased view, i would actually like to say Bingham is amazing, i just don't see it. Good, but not amazing.
  23. Wasn't aware they played but yes Brentwood did win, but i still don't think they are in the class of the first three teams.
  24. I agree that they aren't head and shoulders above Liberty, but i just don't think Liberty could get it done. They would have to press, which was pretty effective against Bolivar, and push the ball up the floor to take Mitchell's size advantage out of the game.
