  1. It is a good thing for 10A Goodpasture went to the East! But no matter they will DOMINATE single A. They won the AA state in 2012, 2008 & 2007. But don't feel as sorry for baseball as softball - they won 4 of last 7 softball state championships & runner-up 2x. Terrible news for all sports in A. That having been said, Rhoten is good but he does not hit one out in straight away center @ McEwen! And before you get crazy I have seen him play multiple times. No one goes deep straight away @ McEwen except Josh Hamilton lol. That is a ridiculous deep center! He would go deep everywhere else in 10A though!
  2. Have seen every team in 10A play this year already and saw every team play last year. 10A is way down this year compared to years past! Just as in football all of these teams will be competitive within the district but once 10A goes outside of district play they will be in trouble. I think the edge has to go WHH for this year. I believe they are the best team in the district this year but would be shocked if anyone goes unscathed in District play. Overall the district will be competitive just down once it comes to the other districts IMHO
  3. Heard he was already a Goodpasture kid
  4. Dickson County High senior Trevor Daniel is listed as the top ranked punter on the ProKicker.com rankings for 2012. His average distance last season was 46.70 yards.
  5. I believe Wayne County wins this big after having watched both teams. I believe they are too strong and physical for Columbia Academy! On another note, I will say that having seen Columbia Academy play a couple of times, it reminds and amazes me that schools with Christian missions seem to be the worst about sportsmanship. Columbia Academy's players use language on a regular basis that would make a sailor blush and that I don't here on college football fields! I saw them for the 2nd time last week against McEwen and not only were they cussing on the field terribly (I was on their sideline), their bench was just as bad. Their coach even put his hands on a McEwen player! I thought it a bit classless that once the game was out of hand in the 4th qtr, McEwen appeared to put kids in that were definitely 2nd team and Columbia Academy left there 1st team in to score at least 2 more times to run it up big. Just a side note. Wayne County should handle this one.
  6. Good post Mr.NoitAll! I'll have to admit I was shocked by Creek Wood's 2 and done. I listened to their game Tuesday night and they were cruising up 4-0 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th and pitching their ace. This is the same young lady who threw a perfect game in the Regional Finals and won their sectional game. I think that CW, although they hadn't stopped playing, was looking ahead a little with 2 outs and then got shocked with the walk-off grand slam! At that point CW had to go back to Charlotte (probably didn't get home until almost midnight) and turn around and leave early the next morning to get to Murfreesboro through morning rush hour traffic and be ready for a 10 am game. That's the problem with not staying in Murfreesboro. CW went from a 5 pm game Wednesday to playing early Wednesday morning. Not sure CW was able to rebound and then lost 4-3. That takes nothing away from CW's year. They had a great season and beat some super good teams - tied Beech; beat Chattanooga Central (2x), DeKalb County and Ravenwood; and lost to Riverdale 2-1. So they were no stranger to competition! They just couldn't make it happen in Murfreesboro. Good thing for CW is they have most of their team back and definitely the core of this State tournament team. Congratulations Lady Red Hawks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. The corners may be 294' at Camden but the ball flies out of there like it's a little league field. One of the kids for Camden last night told his coach as he rounded 3rd after a home run that he hit his off the handle! At least 2 of Camden's home runs were literally hit off of the end cap of the bat! Of Camden's home runs only 2 were really well hit balls. I have seen many games at that park and routine fly balls at most parks are home runs there. That having been said, it is the same fence for everybody. The big time home field advantage for Camden is that their swings are coached to be tailor made for that park. Once they hit a bomb, if you can call a home run at Camden that, I think opposing teams start trying to hit it out and change how they swing the bat. Like Central and Harpeth last night, you just have to hit the ball and not worry about the home runs. Do not try to change your swing to fit the park. So much of pitching at that park also depends on the umpire. If an umpire will not call a strike at the knees (or just below)and you have to get it up, you are in trouble. I bet Stephen Gant kept the ball down and beat Camden, you're only talking about a pitcher that may well get drafted after his senior year at Riverside! Still gotta play the game and find a way. I think it will be hard to beat Camden at that park. They will find a much tougher row to hoe once they have to leave the friendly confines I am afraid. But that's why you win the district!
  8. Well said Clemlawn! Great game at Creek Wood! Crowd was awesome! Michael Purcell is a class act! He is a great example of how to play the game. Although you feel bad for him it was a great win for CW! Great win for Creek Wood and everybody contributed. Go get Camden next!

  10. That approved list is for BESR composite barrels. ALL BBCOR barrels are legal this year and moving forward. Quite honestly I think umpires and coaches ignored the issue as the year went on. The only time I saw it challenged was the first game of the year and the umpire had no clue what was legal and what wasn't and told the coach so. After that I never saw it questioned again. As the year went on I saw kids using all kinds of illegal bats. It will be interesting to see how all that is handled come post season? Next year is easy, go BBCOR or go home!
  11. You do not need to check the TSSAA website, all BBCOR bats are legal this year and next.
  12. 1 & 2 are locked for sure. Camden is 1 and Harpeth 2, unless Camden is swept by Stewart then they would be 2 and Harpeth 1. Harpeth is finished with District play and only has 3 losses so they can finish no worse than second. 3, 4 and 5 are up for grabs! Should be an interesting few days! What will Waverly do?????? Will they save Purcell for the play in game? Or let him pitch on 1 days rest?
  13. Dickson COunty had some damage but none to the baseball facilities. I think they have a tarp but I am not sure. Creek Wood lost the roof to the 3rd base dugout but the field is in excellent condition as usual. The field was tarped after Thursday's games so as soon as the weather breaks hopefully it will be baseball time at Creek Wood. 3 good games at CW last night. CW beat Goodpasture 5-2. Spring Hill beat Goodpasture 10-1. Creek Wood lost to Spring Hill 7-4 in a great baseball game.
  14. Camden definitely strokes it, especially at their place. It is difficult to beat them at Camden with the short porch. As they are in the driver's seat in the district I would guess that is where 11AA will be for the tournament. I think that is a huge advantage for Camden as they hit a lot of home runs there. That is such a tough park for pitchers because it seems routine fly balls become HR's in a hurry. If Waverly pitches Purcell at Camden that could be fun to watch. Should be an interesting 2nd half of the year in 11AA!
  15. This should be a great tournament. You will have the chance to see some very good high school baseball during this 3 day tournament. Besides the host teams of Dickson County, Harpeth and Creek Wood, also competing will be 2010 Region 7-AAA semifinalist, Dyer Co.; 9-AA champion and last year’s tournament winner, Goodpasture; District 12-AAA champions Overton; Region 3-AAA semifinalist, Cookeville and Region 6-AA champions and state finalist, Spring Hill. Also competing will be Clarksville High and Station Camp. There are many other good teams playing! Come out and watch some good high school baseball at all 3 locations! This is an updated schedule as of Monday afternoon per The Dickson Herald/Tennessean. It does not include the Harpeth games. 16. Let me start by saying I was at this game as a high school football fan and am not from Jo Byrns or Wayne Co. Nor am I from either of their respective counties. I and some friends attended this game to watch an excellent high school football game. And that is what we were treated to! I have read this board and all of the post game comments concerning the officiating and the after game antics. Fortunately I did not see the last minute because we left after Jo Byrns' final touchdown. A few observations: * Wayne Co. came out early and stuck it to Jo Byrns. They appeared to have Jo Byrns on the ropes early. After the 1st touchdown and Jo Byrns turnover, I thought JB was in trouble. Tyler Rice held on to the pass a little too long and the JB d'back made a great play. * The officiating was suspect but that takes place in every game. I am sure that the holding calls were correct against WC as you can find holding on every play, espicially on those stretch plays. They did come at very inopportune times for WC. * I was right in line with the pass interference call against JB on the 1st drive and it was absolutely correct. * The refs missed a blatant pass interference call against JB late in the 1st half on 4th down as WC was driving. It was close to the goal line and the JB d'back was way early on contact on the WC receiver. None of this cost WC the game! What cost Wayne County the game was 1 thing - turnovers!!! WC has a 14-0 lead late in the first half and is driving. We are telling each other that if they go up 21-7 and get the ball to start the second half, JB is in trouble. WC then lays it on the ground and JB scores tie it up. WC gets the ball and after a great scramble from Tyler Rice, they are looking like they are going to score. Rice throws a pass across the middle that is tipped and intercepted. This should have been caught and WC maybe still goes up 21-14. It is instead tied at the half. WC had to feel bad as they outplayed JB by a mile in the 1st half and end up tied. Either way the turnovers kill WC! You cannot turn it over 4 times against that quality of an opponent and expect to win. Jo Byrns is not where they are at because they are no good. They took advantage of the breaks they were given and got the win. I'm glad I missed the last minute and I hate to hear what happened. I understand being frustrated and feeling like your kids are being mistreated; however, you cannot lose control. It sounds like that's what happened and it's unfortunate. That will take away from a great game between two great teams. Hopefully that will pass because both of these teams are very good. Tyler Rice is as good as advertised and JB is a very good team. They will have to play well to beat the high-powered attack of Perry County with PC having the home field advantage. I'm sure Linden and Perry County will be shutdown for the game! That having been said, PC should watch film and learn a lesson - you can smack JB in the mouth but they will not go away! Like all good teams they will come back. They have not been ranked #1 all season for no reason. And their experience keeps them from hanging their heads when they get down. Good luck to both teams next week in Linden. Wish I was going to be able to be there for a great game!!!! But family and Thanksgiving call!
  17. Take this for what it's worth, but discussed this with a dealer and according to them, NFHS will not require BBCOR stickers this year. Which would seem to mean 2011 will be up the umpire not sure. Doesn't make a lot of since even though you can buy the college legal bats online.
  18. Rumor is this kid's a stud and the real deal? What's the scoop on him?
  19. Sad that it appears the only team you can give credit to is Wayne Co. Waynce Co. had a great year and the Rice boys are very talented. But give the Academy it's due, they beat a very good Grace Baptist team who had a great game plan to beat Westwood. It's funny you say if Westwood or Humboldt wins it all then everything 's good but if the Academy wins it all Class A is just weak! Give them there due and don't hate em because they beat your team!!!!!!!!

  21. That's funny. Clarksville also outshot CSAS 35 to 17 from the foul line. What's more funny is that Grace outshot Westwood 26-12 from the line and I've not heard anybody on here from Westwood whining. I'm not from CA or Grace, but it seems as if we can always find an excuse when we lose. The bottom line was Grace had No, and I mean NO, answer for the twins. They did mount a fantastic comeback and it was an awesome game. Having said that, thought it was classless for the Herman kid refusing to shake hands at the beginning of the game and then after the game one of the coaches had to push him out to shake hands with CA. He also had to be prodded out to the Mr. Basketball award. Not very classy although he has a lot of talent. I understand being upset but you have to show some class when you lose. Excellent job by the Grace coach of keeping his kids in the game and making the awesome run to double OT. Would have been easy to pack it in. Don't think I would blame the loss on the refs though and I bet he didn't either.
  22. rockets7, lets just say it it sounds like an unfortunate incident and if a McEwen fan/student made that comment that is totallu unaccepatble and cannot be tolerated. The following is what happened according to the East Robertson administration who I have spoken to: two young men from Forrest/Marshall County were escorted from the gym, one of them being African American. The administration and law enforcement escorted them from the building and watched them leave the parking lot. They were not parked anywhere near the pep bus for McEwen but in the front of the school. At some point they chose to return and went to the area of the pep bus and players bus for McEwen which was in a very different area. They then began a back and forth with the pep bus and attacked an adult and one minor. Several people joined in the ordeal and the pep bus did clear to stop the 5-6 on 1 attack taking place. At that point two Marshall County/Forrest fans were taken into custody while the others scattered. A Humphreys County school van was also vandalized. Again, this is the account from the East Robertson adminstration. I am in no way condoning any name calling by any McEwen fan and that should be dealth with accordingly as well. However, if you are asked to leave and you return and seek out a confrontation, that is not very smart. No matter what words were exchanged there can be no excuse for attacking another person and that would tend to be corroborated by the fact that two Marshall County/Forrest individuals were taken into custody. All the way around just more examples of how crazy people have gotten.
  23. Pathetic? I think it's pretty pathetic when a thirty or forty year old man makes a racial remark at an eighteen year old boy...much less a bus driver. and from what i hear this is strike two for Mcewen and their fans. Didn't they just get in a fight with eagleville as well? And i watched as a few boys were walkin pass their student section and grown men were bumping into teenagers....thats pathetic. Mcewen needs to grow up and before we send a few more Forrest teenagers down there to take on some more grown men:) harrycarey13, based on your comments, it is no wonder that all reports, except from Forrest, are that your fans/students acted inappropriately. Follows suit that your senior center was ejected for receiving 2 technicals. If it is acceptable to "send a few more Forrest teenagers down there to take on some more grown men" with a smiley face, then that is what is pathetic! Forrest High School and the Chapel Hill community as a whole should be embarrased by your comments and implications that your fans behavior was acceptable. Your boys coach has already apologized saying that the people who caused the problems were not there to help the team. So thank goodness there are some classy folks there that understand this is not acceptable behavior.
  24. Talked to someone at East Robertson who was at game and close to situation/administration and my understanding is as follows - some sort of altercation at halftime as Forrest fans confronted McEwen folks. That died down but at some point adminstration removed some Forrest fans from the game. Those fans left but then went around to the pass gate and confronted the McEwen pep bus. Two particular Forrest individuals attempted to board the McEwen pep bus and the bus driver's husband tried to stop them at which point he was attacked by the two Forrest fans, who were joined by between 4-6 other people from Marshall County. He sustained a cut over his head and a black eye. Another juvenile for McEwen was hit and two Forrest people were taken into custody. Would suspect from my information that TSSAA has been/will be contacted and more information trying to be gathered for possible arrests of Forrest associated fans. Also vandalism to a McEwen school van believed to have been committed from one of the inidividuals taken into custody from Forrest. Not present at game but as I wrote, information from pretty good source affiliated with tournament. When the Forrest students were walking by their student section they were shoved first, I saw it with my own eyes. and forrest students aren't just gonna be pushed around, neither should students from any school. So of course they retaliated. And then two grown men from the Mcewen crowd tried coming after the minors. And the situation outside was not just forrest looking for a fight. A few of their students were mouthing on the bus when our boys started mouthing back. And then the grown man shoved the boys so they sent a message...... harrycarey13 can't speak of last night because not there. However, I was at the McEwen-Eagleville game and there was no fight. So you might need to get your facts straight. Again, coming from the East Robertson folks it was 2 Forrest/Marshall County folks taken into custody, no McEwen people. According to East Robertson the Forrest kids had been removed from the gym and then drove around to the pass gate which was in a totally seperate area to confront the pep bus. I would see no reason to be kicked out and then go to an area that's separate if you weren't looking to start soomething? Just saying. The East Robertson report was the Forrest fans went to the McEwen fan section and started an altercation when their cheering section was on the opposite side of the gym. Not sure just reporting what the East Robertson version was. Find it ironic though that the reports are that your 9A counterparts of Cascade were cheering for McEwen?
