how does this maryville team stack up to the last couple of teams size in line? speed? offense? pass/run ratio special teams - punter and placekicker? Hillsboro is real quick, great speed at skill positions, qb isn't real accurate = throws like vince young with very low elbow on throws to flats... their placekicker is excellent = real nice leg

If that is indeed the case - that's a huge blow to the offense and at this level of competition it definitely could have been the difference. Now you won't hear a coach or player worth his salt make that excuse, but I can tell you from experience that it could definitely put a wrench in anything your trying to do offensively. Plus when you take away from stuff you might normally do, it doesn't allow other stuff to be as effective

I have to agree, as i stated in another thread, the crowd they bring with them is nothing but parents, they are the ones who should be there, but there's nobody else - how was their crowd last Friday?? I don't mean how many were there, but how many Hillsboro fans were there? I bet HC outnumbered them 2 or 3 to 1

i was at the beech-hilsboro game last friday and that atmosphere was pathetic - on both schools part - as good as hillsboro has been they have no following - it looked like all parents and beech's side for a home team was horrible for a quarterfinal round i was very dissappointed my prediction for tonight is that henry county has more fans than hillsboro does

didn't say they weren't big enough = only time will tell and as i said they are all fast = that's what makes them good if they come up on a team that has a huge o line they won't stop them beech is small too - but the burros are faster/more athletic than beech and that's why they won

Hillsboro is not very big but they are all fast - they have weapons at every skill position (#8 is a stud)- i will say the qb is probably the weakest link from a passing standpoint - throws with his elbow down - even lower than vince young - beech picked a pass... he has so many athletes when he throws deep they are able to adjust and go get the ball... but Maryville and maybe HC will be able to stop the long stuff... Bucs were out athleted at every position... kickoffs were deep, they didn't tackle great but swarmed and with their speed its tough to break a long one... they can be thrown on i think - beech did not take advantage of this enough beech had a chance to make it 35-28 in the 3rd qtr but couldn't score - but quite frankly the bucs would have had to play a perfect game and gotten a couple more turnovers to win

all schools go thru cycles - especially small schools which is what every RCo school is.... at SHS the prinicpal might need to change - and quite frankly, unless things have changed RCo schools don't work as hard as some other county schools - Rutherford, Sumner to name a couple - I've worked in RCo, coached football at one of the schools so I have first hand knowledge of 2 or 3 of the schools off season work, etc - When Coach Brown left ER the program went to the dumps... IMHO, the county itself which extends to the principal position doesn't understand what it takes to be a state championship contender in football - some schools are lucky to have a couple of assistants and they probably (like i once did) coach one or two (in my case) other sports... when a school has a run of good athletes they win but they can't sustain it due to the reasons listed above (off season workouts/numbers of kids/coaching staffs)

who was in the best physical condition to play 4 quarters tonight? if you saw beech play at station camp - who was in better condition? The Bucs ran out of gas early in that game - perhaps as early as the middle of the 3rd quarter i wonder how much running sprints are done at beech? anyone know? i can't believe they condition their players very well - they have some really good athletes but to me they don't look like they are in good shape - opinions?

TSWA - is sports writers - a kid gets on the team if his paper is a member of the tswa - if not the kid hasn't got much of a shot due to no one (writer) promoting him TBCA - coach must be member, send in nominations - region directors (coaches) select all region teams - all state team named from the all region teams there is no perfect way to deem an all region, all state award - everyone has bias toward players they have seen or maybe because they are AAA players vs a Class A player. If a coach doesn't think enough to send in his nominations he isn' t much of a coach in my opinion... what does it take time wise to send in a nomination?

Hunters Lane was an accomplishment... Jackson Christian they at least had to beat USJ... but this one, well there aren't any good D2 A teams at all - it's kind of like the football titles...

after doin' some diggin... had to put a new mailbox in... the kids in the neighborhood were using mine as a pinyatta... anyways, after i dug the new hole for my mailbox, i called him up (freeze)... he said the kid was a junior who transferred in at the break... he told me the depth of the breaking ball was such that if he went sidewinder could go a couple of feet behind the batter and still cross the plate, with real tite spin to it... i told him he was full of it... so i went to see this kid yesterday afternoon........... whoooooooooooooooohooooooooooooooooooo... what a breakin' pitch!! he didn't hit 80 yesterday, only upper 70's... but at his height, he has a deception quite uncommon amongst most high schoolers that are normal size (5'10 and up). i think he's gonna use him as a pinch "walker" if you know what i mean... that's just what Coach Holmes did in Westmoreland back in the 80's with his 4 footer...

spoke to coach pharr a couple of weeks back and at the time he wasn't planning on using him as a catcher, of course all that could change.

Freeze's pitching coach, some guy named Homer, older guy, they say he wrote some mythology... anyway he's got this kid throwing low 80's standing at 4'8" with cleats on! Hunt won't tell me if it's true but I snuck up to Gtown the other day and saw him throwing... he's pretty good... I overheard him say nice pitch Bonapart! Nyone else know about this guy??

what's a coach supposed to say... we aren't any good, probably won't win a game, our talent is way down.. give me a break, the coach is going to be positive and make the best of what he's got... in today's environment if you tell a kid or a parent the truth about how bad or what lack of talent he/she really has they would go cry in the corner and call you a "hater".... we are in the middle of the purple haze era (you know... barney = everybody's special, everybody's got talent, etc)... if you don't know the name Freddie MacIntosh or James Gardner then you don't know much about Jo Byrns basketball... might even add in Tim Farmer to that mix... those guys could play - ask Coach about them!

if you did something once a year, how good would you do??? these guys don't have time to be doing a bunch of homework on teams... heck they are expected to know everything about every topic and that is impossible. we should be glad we are able to watch the broadcasts... i don't have a team in any of the games and for one i'm glad they are on cause it saves me money and a trip - which means i get to see the games cause otherwise i don't have the time... usually i get to see parts of a couple of the games....
