  1. That's not really what I was aiming at...I was talking about the crowd advantage! But hey, if they can't hit one in the ocean then by all means let that continue! I can't wait until February, it will be very exciting to watch!
  2. After taking a beating in Jackson County last night, the Lady Dawgs really need a win against the second ranked team in the district. Having a 16-2 record may look great, but when both losses are in your district, it makes it harder to overcome during the tournaments. Remember, they have to face these same teams if they want to make any kind of run at the sub-state or state. If they beat Clarkrange, it will be a confidence booster for them and also help them retain what respect they have earned from people. When these teams take the court in Baxter during the district tournament, Jackson County will have more home-court advantage than the other teams because they are only 10 minutes from Baxter! They will be tough to hang with. Good luck to all!
  3. I don't think we should make predictions, just let the game do the talking. I know both teams will be well prepared and I guarantee you the girls on both sides are not taking their opponents lightly. It should be a great game with a tournament-time atmosphere. It will be tough winning in Gainesboro but we will see how it goes on Tuesday night.
  4. We all on CoachT have a connection to this and it is a wonderful thing!
  5. Finally someone speaks the truth! Thanks tennisguy. It's hard to compare the two schools since one is in A and the other is in AA. Each has their own different advantages and disadvantages. But please, we are not all mentally challenged on the east side! January 27th should be an interesting night, both with the boys and girls games. And if I remember correctly who you are tennisguy, when are you going to get out of school?
  6. Sorry, I was not preaching to you, just some of these others who are on here talking directly about certain players. I was not attacking you at all.
  7. Muffin, I am sure you are wondering about who Red Boiling Springs will play. If I am not mistaken, they play Forrest at 4:30 on Thursday, Dec. 29 and they play Eagleville at 7:30 on Friday, Dec. 30. Also, someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I do not believe it is a regular tournament.
  8. First off...leave the players alone on the boards. That shows me that you have no respect for anyone and it should not be tolerated. It's like your mother has always said, say something good or say nothing at all. These kids get on CoachT from time to time and it is unbelieveable how stupid remarks will get into their heads! Red Boiling Springs has a bright future and present. Barring any type of dramatic injuries, players quitting, etc. they have a lot of things to look forward to. They just need to keep it one game at a time and if they do that and play to the best of their abilities, they will continue to be successful. There is no reason to single out the officials or put the blame on anyone or anything else. Macon Co. has a good basketball team. They play some tough teams like Red Boiling Springs, Livingston Academy, etc. They are in a tough district and will have to grow into place. They have some great players and with a little time, they will be successful as well. This is just a continuum of the Macon Co. / Red Boiling Springs rivalry!
  9. If I am not mistaken, RBS was taking advantage of the poor shooting by Macon in the first half... they were up big at the end of the first quarter before all of the foul trouble set in.
  10. Lady Bulldogs pull out another victory against cross-county rival Macon Co. and also by doing so, they have won their Christmas Tournament for two consecutive years. Congratulations girls!
  11. THANK YOU gotmilk? Tournament brackets ARE SET UP BY RECORDS. People complaining about how there is never any good competition in this tournament and how the brackets are always fixed IT MAKES ME SICK. In case you haven't noticed, there are several Christmas Tournaments/Classics out there now. In most cases, the local schools are going to be the only ones to make it to the RBS Tournament because face it, it's in the boondocks. You are not going to see teams like Clarkrange and Pickett Co. coming because it's too far of a drive for a tournament and besides, they can find one much closer (Livingston, Kentucky tourneys, etc.) As far as not competing in the Nera White goes, I think that it is great for schools to get out of their leagues and play a little bit different competition. The RBS boys did not participate in it last year. And give Coach White a break, he can take a talented team with a mediocre record places...2000-2001 team was a prime example. Back in the late 80s his teams didn't have the best regular season records but they shook up the post-season and went to sub-state on more than one occasion and also went to the state tournament. Believe it or not, Coach White will do whatever is in the best interests of the school and the players, even if it means playing a weaker team to get a good record or ticking somebody off. It is all about pulling together the community, and that's what I love about being from a small town. They have their eyes on the prize and I believe things WILL happen! They have my support 110% Sorry I got on my soapbox...have a great day!
  12. Thanks, I needed a refresher! When you got all the sinusitis that has been going around you tend to have problems with the brain as well. Muff...I don't have the brackets. I am wishing someone would post them as well. I don't have the close connections anymore...or so I do not think!
  13. When Satterfield chose to play up the ranks it was only his football team that done so...all other sports remained in A classification.
  14. Things get more childish everytime I look at this thread! Jackson Co. was re-classified and fell just a couple of students shy of AA making them about the largest A school in the state. Just as Clint Satterfield has done in the past with his Trousdale Co. football program...I am sure that if Jim Brown decided to move up that it could be worked out. I am not completely certain about the rules of that situation. However, if it is possible to move up, give Coach Brown a few years to try the waters in A ball, it is a possibility that he could break a few records. This class is going to be really exciting to watch over the course of the rest of the year! Good luck to all, as I still stand in support of all Upper Cumberland basketball...BEST IN THE STATE!
  15. I do not believe that it is worth either team being arrogant going into this game. Everyone should know that in the district that these teams play in anything can happen and if it hasn't you can almost bet it will happen sometime soon. Red Boiling Springs has just as good of a shot beating a great Jackson County team as Jackson County has of kicking the Lady Dawgs by a large number. It should be a very interesting test for both teams...for Jackson County are they as good as expected...and for Red Boiling Springs can they really hang in with the top of the district. Just from the feel of things around the area, we may have a new rivalry forming.

    7A/7AA

Here is what is on my mind about Red Boiling Springs: Red Boiling Springs will be on A LOT of teams' minds' in the district. Many of the girls play basketball year round. Face it, there's not really much else to do in Macon County...trust me I am there all the time and grew up there. They have great potential this season and for many to come. As long as they stay team-oriented and stick together and play to the best of their ability they will be very good. It has been a long time since these girls have won 7A...about 7 years I believe. You are about to see the Lady Dawg teams of old like the teams in the mid to late 90's and the late 80's teams. The team, coaches, and community are all striving for greatness once again. For this season, the team has so much depth that they do not get tired. They will play 32 minutes HARD. On and off the ball they should be quick. Height has been a problem in recent past but Coach White has some girls growing like weeds. It's not tremendous height but enough to hold their own. The juniors and lone senior should lead the team well, as they are all very experienced. Coach White will master his opponents and be ready to attack at whatever they put against his team. At home, I expect a winning record. Crowd support is wonderful. I believe they could successfully defend their Christmas Tournament, and hopefully do well in the district tournament. It will be a hard road with the toughness in the district but with their desire and preparedness, they can accomplish anything they set their minds to! Good luck Lady Dawgs!!! Brandon Woodard
  17. Smith County has two proven assistant coaches...Pat Dyer and Jason Harville.
  18. If this were a year later maybe myself...what do you think coach15? A good starting point since I know the district and area well! Would any of you be behind me? I saw on the TSSAA website it was posted..."Good opportunity for young coach"
  19. Upper Cumberland women's basketball should be great to watch this season. With a little change in 7A and 7AA---the switching of Jackson County---it should be very interesting to say the least. 7A is going to be filled with a little bit of everything especially in the coaching ranks. You have three long-time and successful coaches in Lamar Rogers, Jim Brown, and Larry White and on the other end of the spectrum two young rising stars in the UC in Allison Painter and Paige Smith. The district will be loaded with talent as Jackson County and Clarkrange have reloaded and should take things and run with them. However it is upper cumberland basketball and we know this is not the case. Clay County is always in contention and Red Boiling Springs could be the bracketbuster come tournament time.
  20. Red Boiling Springs did what they had to do by getting the ball inside to Meador and letting him work his magic under the basket. Dexter White had an outstanding game. He and Tyson Jenkins made some big plays that truly helped out the Bulldogs over the course of the game. The two big turning points in the game were 1)Coach Owens's ejection and 2)Clay's Godwin fouling out...all of which happened in the wild third period. Godwin left with 12 points and with RBS burning off steam over Owens's ejection, it just didn't fair well the rest of the night for Clay County. January 14th should be very interesting on the bank of the Cumberland. Congratulations to Red Boiling Springs on a deserving win.
  21. I believe it will be hard for MTSU to stay 1A. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing them with the big boys, however, I think the program could get more recognition by being 1AA again in the OVC. With the Vandy rivalry being resumed over the next couple of seasons, it would be great to have MTSU in the OVC and then beat Vandy...that would be nice. Let MTSU build their program up in the OVC for a few years then try to be re-instated in 1A.
  22. Yes, that is the case and I am from Red Boiling Springs and I'll gladly pull for my team. I am sorry if I have offended you, that was not my intentions. I will gladly retract my comment. However, we all have our own opinions and I'm sure you have your own opinions about the teams in the district. Again, I'm sorry that you took offense to the statement. And by the way, I do remember last season when your boys almost stuck it to us on the Mountain...and I am a firm believer that there can be any upset at any time. However, according to the "norm", if your school and the other school that are in the lower pre-season rankings of 7A beat one of the top teams it would truly be an upset. And I also know that any team in this district has a chance at winning it.
  23. Clarkrange will be better than a lot of people give them credit for. My memory is not the best but I believe they still have the Hanahan kid, the Richards kid, and another good sophomore coming up. They were competitive last season but I believe they could slip in some upsets as the season goes along. But then again, I don't really believe there will be any true upset in the district this year. The competition is going to be tight from top to bottom. I think that Pickett Co. could finish 3rd as easy as they could finish in first place. I do believe that Red Boiling Springs is playing "under the radar" so to speak...just don't count Owens and Co. out just yet. And Clay County will be a lot like Clarkrange...full of surprises with a chance to claim the crown. Just can't beat 7A ball!
  24. Paige Smith will bring a lot of youth, excitement, and fire to the Clay County squad. I think she opens up a world of opportunities for the Bulldogs with a whole new style of play that Coach Sims...respectively...didn't have for them. Clarkrange is going to be good there's no doubt about it. They will definitely be a run and gun with quick guard play. You just do not leave Lamar Rogers and the defending Class A champions out of the race. Red Boiling Springs proved well over the summer, having one of the best summers in recent years. They have talent and experience which may not top the district this year, but they could make an impression for people to think about in the future. Pickett Co., Monterey, and Hermitage Springs may just be fillers for the fourth through sixth positions in the district, however, Pickett Co. and Monterey could have a few surprise games. There's just nothing like 7A Basketball, and there sure won't be anything like it in 2005 when Jackson Co. falls down!
  25. I have no vested interest in any team in Tennessee high school football this season, but I am a HUGE fan of Upper Cumberland HARD-NOSED football! Every season a team has faith that this year will be better than last. That is the way it should be because without expectations, why do we play the game? And we build on the past because it is just a stepping stone that we have crossed to get to where we are right now. The Tigers have every right in the world to be proud of their State Championship just as the Owls have every right to be proud of their victories over Gordonsville. It's just the way of competitiveness in the sports world. These actions bring to the game what needs to be there. I will agree, however, that Smith County may very well have this game locked up because of more talent and also talent in number. Lack of depth will hurt Gordonsville against the Owls because their legs may give before the final buzzer sounds. But I just love these classic rivalries, what makes football football in the Upper Cumberland! Good luck to Gordonsville and Smith County and the rest of the teams out there!
