  1. What does everyone think? Macon pulled a huge upset last year but did it with little to no expectations. This year, that is not the case. Macon is coming off what may have been their worst performance of the year in the Region 4AA final and McMinn seems to have been playing well as of late. Either way, hoping for a great game, no injuries, and safe travels for all.
  2. I take back what I said about Macon playing pretty good right now. Last night was probably the worst game they have played all season. Granted, the way Upperman shot the ball no one was going to beat them, but Macon's offensive game was a struggle to watch and Upperman's shooters were standing wide open. Their offense was great to watch. True, everyone has to always know where Levy is on the court, but all of their girls look to make the extra pass for a better shot, not just the first open shot they have. The girls got outplayed on both ends of the floor and White, as good as he is at times, got out-coached. Thought Macon had a shot this year of possibly beating them at some point but may not happen this year or the next few years. Upperman has best group of young players in the district and they will only get better. Hope Macon can pull it together for Saturday night. Am going to try and make the game and maybe Macon will play a lot better.
  3. Round 4 tonight - hoping for an upset. Should be a good game. If it is not, Macon has gotten beat to death because there is no way Macon will beat Upperman in a lopsided game.
  4. She was just a freshman last year. I think Macon would have a chance at either place, but hoping they pull an upset tonight against Upperman. Macon as a whole is playing pretty good right now. I don't know if I would have said that a couple of weeks ago. It just seems that we missed our graduating senior's heart for most of the season. We still force a little too much at times and take some ill-advised shots, but are currently playing pretty good. I think they have a shot at getting back to Mboro.
  5. Yes, Macon had their chances to win. Upperman's offensive rebounding leading to 2nd and 3rd shots was the difference in the game in my opinion. Hope to see them play again in region final but Cumberland County will be a huge test for Macon, providing neither get upset in the quarterfinal games. Macon has a legitimate shot to win against Cumberland, but will have to handle the pressure and play well. How the game is called and how the teams adapt to the officiating will also be key.
  6. Would like to see a Macon win, but agree would be doubtful at Upperman. Macon has to not get down big early and rebound, two things they did not do in Lafayette. Macon has a chance, but will have to shoot well and rebound. Levy will be the best thing on the floor, but after her, I think Macon has the deeper team.
  7. Clarkrange comes to Macon County - Should be a great game featuring two teams that both made the state tournament last year.
  8. That very well may be true and with no disrespect to Hurst who is a very good player, but I think the Smith girl from York may be the 2nd best player in the district.
  9. The Nera White Classic is looking for a couple of girls teams. Tournament is right after Christmas and will be hosted by Macon County High School in Lafayette, which is on the Kentucky line in Middle Tennessee. Contact Larry White or Lacy Colter at Macon County High School 615-666-4320.
  10. Macon fan here and I agree that Upperman and Macon should separate themselves from the rest, but also think that Cannon will also clearly separate themselves from the remainder. Wouldn't surprise me to see them upset Upperman or Macon at some point in the year. Also agree with above that Macon may be better across the board, but Levy can carry her team by herself. Upperman is favorite until Macon, or someone else, beats them. Looking forward to the season.
  11. Was at the game and Coach White had the girls ready to play. McMinn's press did cause several turnovers, but not a lot of live ball turnovers which led to layups. Most of the time when Macon didn't turn it over, they scored on a layup. Have to give a lot of credit to McMinn. They have such a rich tradition to go along with great players and fans. Couldn't have been treated any better at a ballgame.
  12. Think 3 out of 4 8AA teams are locks to advance. The game between Macon and Signal Mountain could go either way, especially with the game being at Signal. Hoping for an 8AA sweep to cut down on drive time.
  13. Have not seen a comprehensive list, but Upperman and Macon County both have posted their school's representatives on their Facebook pages. Would like to see a complete list as well if anyone has a link to it.
  14. Don't think Upperman will be touched, but you never know when post-season starts. Anyone's guess as to how the rest shake out. Macon girls have improved during the year but have overachieved according to how many picked them to finish. Smith Co. has experience on their side and are dangerous to everyone they play when they are hitting the basket. Livingston has faltered a bit, but never count them out. York has also improved during the year and go as the sisters play, so who knows. DeKalb and Cannon both have shooters that can get streaky at any time. Central Magnet has struggled, but have played several of the others close at times so they could sneak in a good run in the district tourney. Overall, district was down with the exception of Upperman, but that made for an exciting race for the other spots.
  15. No surprise with Upperman still being on top. They are by far the cream of the crop. The way the rest has played out so far has been a little bit shocking. Should be a good battle the rest of the way between the other teams for seeding purposes in the district tournament.
  16. Whitehouse 30 Macon 6 10 mins to go
  17. If I remember right, Macon County was in that district a few years ago. I don't think they were ever even close to the bottom. In fact, I would almost bet that they finished in 3rd place, behind Jackson and LA, their first year in the district. They also beat LA, at LA, in that first year, while giving Jackson good games as well. All I can say is, some of yall better move over cause Gary Carter won't be at the bottom.
  18. I have been in many single A gyms and there are several difficult places to play and hope to have a chance to win. Red Boiling Springs has already been mentioned and I would have to rank Gordonsville's and Celina's old gyms right up there with RBS. As bad as those places are, I would have to agree with a previous post. Clarkrange is the most intimidating place to play an away game. You seem to drive forever just to get to Monterey and then realize that you are in the city compared to where you are going to end up. The fans are diehard. They come out in huge numbers to support the basketball teams and are very vocal, to say the least. It may not be the toughest place to play, but try and tell Lamar that while staring in the glare of a few gold balls.
  19. While I will admit that Smith County girls are a good basketball team with several good players, never count out Macon County girls. Gary Carter knows how to win if his team is good, average, or not so good. He has been around a long time and has had several very good basketball teams. I do agree that a win here will be a very hard fought one, but just don't ever count out Coach Carter and the Tigerettes.
  20. I agree with all that I have read on this topic but would have to add one that I have not seen mentioned. I am going back a very long way with this one but some of you may remember her. I never saw her play in person but I have seen a couple of videos of her playing for Nashville Business College. Nera White from Macon County would have to be one of the greatest high school players of all time in the state. I know Nera and she is a very quiet, unassuming person. To this day, she humbly accepts any award that she receives and I believe that a demeanor like that is also considered as a mark of a special high school basketball player.
