  1. Hopefully there will be Knoxville area refs at the next game. SR should be ashamed of himself......it is so, so obvious. Great game and I honestly don't see either team as the favorite in three weeks other than Alcoa has the home field but that's it....very evenly matched. Each team's strengths are offset by their own weaknesses which happen to be the other team's strength.
  2. This game won't be close. SH is very weak on defense and has progressively gotten worse as the season has worn on. They leave way too many open lanes on the perimeter which is an absolute nightmare against DB's speed. If your prediction on a 6 seed is correct, their season will end in the K'ville area. Honestly I'm not sure they would be a top 5 team out of that district. SH has got to start scheduling teams out of the area in addition to developing more kids instead of leaving starters in and scoring with seconds on the clock. Last night was very troubling and I believe they will finish the year with back to back losses. A lot of SH's yards come on big plays because of number 11's feet and arm but that won't work against top 6A defenses like it does against the local talent level which is way, way down. Hard nosed teams advance in 6A playoffs and I think DB may have a decent chance to make some noise this year. I hope it is a good game this Friday but I just don't see it.
  3. Yes, in fact AHS wore white jerseys at homein the late 70's and sometimes in the early 80's much like some NFL teams. Coach Dalton changed that beginning in 82.
  4. I hope that's not true!!!! If so, it is disgusting and shameful.
  5. As our DB friends would say, does this qualify Alcoa as Okie Dokie High?????
  6. Thanks for sharing the link to the game. Look more explosive with Foreman at QB as he has the ball in his hands more. You will present a problem for anyone you play in the playoffs and if you stay healthy who knows. The biggest negative to playing against Maryville is depth. No one goes both ways for them but who know in the playoffs. If you could get them up here anything could happen. Graham does a good job with this offense and the kids seem to respond. You can really get "outflanked" in a hurry if you are an opposing defensive squad. I don't think SH will have what it takes in 6 weeks so you will enter the playoffs 10-0 once again.
  7. Whatever happened to the Westside Raiders???? That was a true dynasty many moons ago. Had kids from every corner of the county including the mean streets of Alcoa, the hamlet of Bungalow, the hood in Alnwick and of course the fertile recruiting grounds of Middlesettlements. I don't remember them dipping into Fairview
  8. Feel bad for the young man but his health is paramount. It makes high school football unimportant. Praying for a speedy recovery and NO long term effects.
  9. I'm not so sure Fields is more of a D1 prospect at WR than Basketball, but I guess time will tell. I don't even remember Stephens playing against Elizabethton, plus the Pierce kid is a very good runner with a lot of skill as the backup to Will.
  10. Wow what an ugly game. You hit on everything, nothing to add. Elizabethton kids played hard but were outnumbered that's all. SH fundamentally looked poor and honestly I left scratching my head, just a poor, poor effort on their part.
  11. Over there counts for 14 less points, but I still think SHS wins by 28.
  12. Very impressed with Webb's character and desire. They competed hard with only 35 players. Very, very impressive. Reminded me of some Alcoa teams from the 80's.
  13. It's nice to see SH get a thread started devoted soley to them---thanks, it means someone is thinking about them early. DB is still king untl SH puts up, but I can tell you SH is deep and loaded. They do not have the look of typical SH teams, and they have 9 more weeks to improve and gel as a team. Depth is the key to playing big boy ball and I think the coaches may have figured this out. There is a reason DB fades in the 2nd half of games and in the playoffs. We shall see in a couple of months so until then good luck.
  14. Greeneville's weakness is defending the pass. Rankin won't throw it as much. SH QB is really good! I'm sure the Wilson kid for GHS is not excited to return home in Sept. He played hard tonight.
  15. GHS is lucky they didn't get beat 56 to 7. SH must have had over 150 yards in penalties. If they had any discipline, the score would have been worse. SH has a bunch of talent, just too many stupid mistakes.
  16. This is a good opportunity to pick a name recognition win. Jamaal looks much better this year. We shall see this Friday.
  17. Alcoa was 5 for 5 on their drives. Farragut is banged up though.
  18. You are correct about the Toppers. They had a rough go of it at Knox West last Friday according to a Father I talked to this evening. They looked okay tonight against weak competition. They depend so much on the big play though and that is often not a recipe for success against a grinding team like Greeneville. SH needs to work on their run game and learn to tackle better on D.
  19. Doubleheader at Alcoa: Maryville vs Cleveland followed by Alcoa vs Knox Webb. Greeneville at Science Hill is the most interesting to me however. I think SH will turn the corner this year. I look forward to the game.
  20. I have watched SH practice the last two nights and they have more numbers and better looking athletes than I have seen in a long, long time. Now, whether that means anything on the field; I don't know, we will have to wait two more weeks. I hope SH commits to the run more this year as they have some strong looking running backs besides 45. They pass the "eye" test that's for sure.
  21. Ron was my neighbor in the Boro 20 years ago before he left the first time for Coffee County. Great guy even thought I was a bit surprised he took the Cleveland job after having lived in Middle Tenn his whole life. Cleveland is lucky to have him. That seems like a long, long time ago. Rankin had one heck of a staff in those "formative" Riverdale years. Seems like yesterday. This Alcoa Boy enjoyed watching those early Warrior Teams.
  22. That is not the case at Alcoa. Rankin calls his plays NO ONE else touches his offense it is all him. The defensive coach is Brian Nix who is young and very talented and has turned down other jobs but has never been a head coach. He played at Maryville ironically but IMHO will be Rankin's replacement someday. Gary is one of the absolute best and no one builds PROGRAMS like he does. However I cannot see his family moving further East than the Knoxville area. If they move anywhere it will be back to Middle TN or another state. Plus I'm not sure Kingsport can pay as much as Alcoa. He likes to have him some talent though and won't go anywhere he cannot win. This whole conversation is useless though as I don't think Graham would be forced out and honestly DB is lucky to have him.
