  1. EHS can take away our sledgehammer, but we don't need props to POUND THE ROCK! The "Let it snow" song that was quoted has become a new tradition; if I'm not mistaken, it's only a couple of years old. I believe the Sudderth girls started it last year, or was it the year before?
  2. This could have been the case, because the film shown on youtube only shows EHS players. However, the tape also shows the A-E coaches running in, pushing their guys back. At the end of the film, an EHS coach comes in to push his players back. There was also some mention of A-E players "stomping on the E". Again, it may have happened before the film showed the A-E players, but it didn't appear that that's what they were doing. A lot of the boys were jumping up and down on both sides. No matter, you won't see that kind of behavior from Alcoa. They'll be "taking care of business".
  3. I was really surprised when I saw the taunting video. I was even more surprised that EHS didn't start out the game with a penalty. You won't see Alcoa stomping on someone else's logo or returning taunts...too much class for that.
  4. I will agree there were missed calls on both sides of the ball, and this isn't the first game I've seen that happen. Refs are humans, and humans do make mistakes. Oh, and I don't believe Toney has broken the record...he tied it last night. Loudon played an unbelievable game and really held on tough until the end. How could an Alcoa coach have asked the Loudon coach for 1 more td? I'm assuming you're thinking one of our coaches in the pressbox approached the Loudon coach. Sorry, I find that hard to believe when Toney will get another crack at it next week. It's not like it was the last game of the year. Plus, I'd like to believe our coaches have more class than that. If it's one thing I've learned in my 50+ years on this earth, it's that there are always 2 sides to every story. Unless I'm mistaken, if a runner with the ball is stiffarming his opponent, he is allowed to push on his facemask, as long as he doesn't grab the facemask and throw him down. You even see this on the college and pro level. In all my years of watching football, I've never seen the player with the ball charged with a facemask.
  5. wow. somebody has a gigantic chip on his/her shoulder. Looks like someone is trying really hard to make an Alcoa fan say something that Elizabethton can use for bulletin board material. I imagine the EHS games are somewhat like the Smith County games. Now that's a great venue for high school football! In fact, I think that's the best I've ever seen. Looking forward to coming to Carter Co. on Friday. Hope to see a good, injury free, clean game. Oh, and, congratulations to Alcoa for being given the sportsmanship award for the year!
  6. Chauncy: good point about the defenses we've seen the past 2 games. Another reason for the low scores is Alcoa's ability to eat up the clock. IMO, Rankin is a master at this. Loudon & CAK have both gotten better through the past few years. Excited about the EHS/AHS matchup. Alcoa will be ready and focused come Friday. Can't wait to see what EHS brings to the field. Glad Turkey Day is this week; that will be a little bit of a distraction that will make the week go by faster!
  7. I noticed that the team wasn't big in numbers; that definitely had something to do with it. I would like to see a Loudon/CAK rematch as well. I think Loudon could take 'em.
  8. Loudon players have nothing to hang their head about. Defensive struggle, I think the difference was that Alcoa just wore them down. IMO, this game was tougher than the CAK game. Kudos to Loudon for disrupting our offensive line and not allowing them to give Toney, Tyson, and Hambrick the blocks they needed for big gains. If Loudon didn't have my respect before this game, they certainly do now.
  9. Can't go by "schedules & scores" when you don't know underlying factors. Loudon doesn't get the advantage of a shortened 1st quarter tonight. Both teams have gotten better during the season (what team hasn't?). Loudon may come in thinking they can win because of the win last week, but as said earlier: "Polk is no Alcoa". Alcoa rolls in this one!
  10. A-E played in a mudbowl themselves against Gatlinburg-Pittman, so they have some experience with that. So, no, Elizabethton doesn't get the edge in that one.
  11. Loudon has had a good year, except for the CAK & Alcoa games. You'll see a different Alcoa than you saw the first meeting as well. Our qb has come a long, long way since that first meeting. Sure, we have some things we can work on (who doesn't?), but our boys are much improved since Week 2, as I'm sure Loudon is. Alcoa is focused (as always during the playoffs) and isn't coming off of a win the caliber as last time. Loudon won't have the advantage of a shortened 1st quarter. Alcoa wins this by 24.
  12. No worries on that front! I think we've become more than just a "one dimensional" team since the last time we played.
  13. CAK had a whiteout? I couldn't see it. The band usually does play the Horse when the band comes out, sometimes you just can't hear it because the band isn't as big as it used to be, therefore you can't hear them due to crowd noise. From what I understand, TSSAA has said that we can't use the tornado siren, hence the tornado alert. Also the reason we didn't have the incredible fireworks we had last year. I'm a traditionalist as much as the next guy, but I thought the black was pretty exciting. The fans did a wonderful job getting into it and I really believe our side was a blackout. Very, very classy of AHS to put a wreath under the pressbox to honor the CAK's player's father. Also, very classy of all of the seniors to meet him after the coin toss to offer condolences. As far as the game: The first quarter again to CAK, but, as said before, it takes 4 quarters to win a ballgame. Looked like CAK was running on a lot of emotion that first quarter, unfortunately emotion doesn't win ballgames. Our defense needed to be tighter during the passing game; CAK got in too many completions, but, if you throw enough passes, you're going to get picked off. It's very unfortunate that CAK was put in the brackets where they were; they should've gone much deeper into the playoffs than they did, but it seems like I said that last year. Very impressed that there wasn't any whining about the hand they were dealt. Congratulations to CAK for a great season. One of these games you will beat the Tornadoes, this just wasn't the year.
  14. Prayers to all of the CAK family from Alcoa. Last year one of our boys lost his father during football season, so we can certainly empathize with the emotions. May God bless the young man and his family.
  15. A couple of things I see happening (or not happening) this week as compared to 2 weeks ago: 1) CAK will not score first. I thought our boys came out a little flat and were a little surprised by CAK running down the field. Nix won't allow that to happen again. 2) I honestly don't think the score will be quite as close as it was 2 weeks ago. Hopefully the refs will stay out of the game, so we'll see what will happen. I'm not whining about the refs, but I do get a little suspicious when a team has more penalties in one game than all of the other games put together. I'd say that no matter which way the calls were being made. That's all that needs to be said about that. Alcoa "puts the hammer down" & wins this one by 21.
  16. You're absolutely right...let's win another gold ball! But, this year's qb has come a long way this season. He's proven that he can throw or scramble if he has to. Now, he's no Randall Cobb, but he sure has grown up in the past few months as a qb!
  17. Hate to keep referring back to cal preps, but they say this team would beat the '03 & '04 teams that Duck & BW were on. Don't know about the others, it only goes back to '01.
  18. How 'bout Fiftyish gettin' some attitude? It's about time! Now you're getting into the spirit! One question: Where is Ensworth? If it's in Nashville, no thank you. I've had my fill of having to travel to Nashville for a football game because no one closer will play us. RIDICULOUS.
  19. The cal preps website predicts MUS would win by 1, which means it would be toss-up as to who would win. That site is fairly accurate; they may be off by a score or 2, but they are pretty accurate. Not meaning to sound cocky, but it's amazing to me the people who say that "this team" could easily beat Alcoa. It's incredible to sit on Alcoa's side and watch a team (who thought they had a chance with Alcoa) completely deflate. I'm not saying MUS wouldn't beat Alcoa, we'll never know, but I highly doubt they would beat Alcoa by more than 1 td.
  20. Then, heck, let's give it to the whole O-line! ILuvsports: You're right. I can't count the # of times I thought he had been tackled just to see him running down the field.
  21. Avery is the one that deserves it IMO. Toney benefits tremendously from his very good offensive line that is at Alcoa. Toney is good, but no way Toney is a better back (O&D) than jabronski or avery. Avery was the MVP for the clinic bowl last year and Milan lost. That should tell us something. Robinsion is very good but I'll be interested to see who else gets nominated. I think Brown may be the better pick. Ah, yes, but Toney was the MVP last year and Alcoa won! IMO, the only reason someone from Alcoa didn't get the defensive MVP was because they all played as a team and not one person stood out. How many td's get Alcoa's d give up? (I'll answer that: 2) How many td's did Avery give up? (again, I'll answer that: 4)
  22. I vote for that! Some teams have to play a tougher schedule because we have to find someone, anyone, who will step up and play us if they don't have to.
  23. Now, don't you go worrying your little head about Alcoa overlooking Tyner. We don't overlook anybody. BRING IT ON!!! The boys will be salivating at the mouth ready to butt some Rams!
  24. Exactly my point in saying the logic is ridiculous.
  25. But who have they played besides Fulton & A-E? Besides Fulton & A-E, all of the AA teams they played have losing records. Total w/l of combined teams on schedule: 36-53. Not stellar stats. I would like to correct your last statement as you can add Gibbs (6-4) to the list of teams G-P played with a winning record. I stand corrected. Also, the w/l of combined teams on schedule should be 46-54, you must've posted before I corrected that error. Anyway, the main point is that they haven't played anybody besides Fulton & A-E (Gibbs included).
