  1. If I'm correct, Boone has never beat West. If they have, it's only been one or two times. This should give Boone some fire and they may be able to pull it out if they play hard. Boone has a different team this year, compared to the past. They are actually very capable of throwing and running the ball. If both of these things are clicking for them Friday night, Boone may be in for a big win.
  2. You are wrong. The way Coach Jenkins has turned this team around is like some kind of football miracle.
  3. Admit it, when you played at the Mini Dome you got one of those burns on your elbow and the next day you didn't want to move your arm because it hurt.
  4. I'm curious to see how Boone does playing on the new West turf field. It will be interesting to see how they respond to the hard surface and the nice burns they get when they slide across it. I'd imagine they have been practicing on a regular grass field, so it might be somewhat of a suprise for them when they actually hit it for the first time. So if any of the Boone players are reading this, bring tennis shoes and not your regular game cleets. Boone: 14 West: 14 5 Overtimes
  5. The only thing I have to say here is, football is a team sport. Yes, Phillips is a double threat with his running and passing. He does a good job at each one of these things. To me it seems like you are bypassing the basic concept of the team. Let me try to give an example: The O-line feels they are on an equal level as Phillips. They know he gets the ball from them, gets his rushing yards from thier blocks, and gets his passing yards from the pocket they form. Therefore, Phillips looks at them as an equal. The WRs see him on their level as well. He can throw it, but if they don't catch the ball and give him his 90% accuracy - nobody will even consider his passing game as a viable threat. So hopefully you can look at it from the aspect other than "Curt Phillips IS THE SUCCESS OF THIS TEAM" and look at it as "the TEAM he has around him makes him the stand out person". Another example could be Donald Trump. You have hunderds of people working for him and busting it to get the job done. How many of those people can you name? I'd say 2 tops. In any type of team work enviroment there is going to be a positition on the team that is designed to get all of the glory. A real team player can realize that the glory is not what "super star" can do, but what the lesser noticed people do to make him earn the attention and the final job done. (Getting the big W) The media only looks at stats to get their player they will talk about for the rest of the season. They don't know about football. The only time the media will give credit to the other players on team is from a quote saying "the line really blocked well tonight" or "the WRs made some outstanding catches". In summary, yes Phillips does a good job but the people that really make him who is are the only 10 players out on the field. Campus, you say the rest of the team needs to step up. They are stepping up, they may just be on the highest step. So once agian, Phillips is only as good as the rest of his team. Think about it. And this is coming from a Boone boy. P.S. I don't know if his name is spelled Phillips or Philips, I haven't had the chance to drool over the articles in the news paper long enough to have it engraved in my brain. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  6. I highly doubt they came to Boone with the attitude of "we've already won this". If this is the attitude you think they have, they will not be state champs. If they came with the attitude of "we need to play 4 hard quaters to win". That is the attitude of a state champion. For some reason I think they knew they didn't have the game won before they got on the field. I could be wrong, South could be that confident. But if they are, it might backlash them again if they didn't learn their lesson from G'ville.
  7. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Central has won a game in the last 2 years. So unless they have made some serious improvements this last summer, this game should be a win for Boone. Boone: 41 Central: 8
  8. Oh goodness, or any other smiley face thing usually is used after something that is not serious or it is sarcastic. I'll admit, I'm not a super smart person by any means, but I must me somewhat smart to be in college. Let me add in the details I didn't use before. I took summer classes so my final semester before I went into a specialized school could be full of electives. I also took summer classes because I transfered colleges and they each required different classes to be taken. I hope this makes you feel a little better about yourself. But if you read what I wrote you could understand that most people think that all of the people in the South had slaves. I used that percent to show you a general number on the actual slave count. But you're right, I went to Boone I r not smarts like you is with your out o state colege educshion. Sowwy. Maybe if ETSU had a football I'd actually be doing something more constructive than trying to explain a piece of cloth with symbols on it to a person that refuses to open their mind to other peoples opinions. Lets try to change the subject or something, hopefully this thread will be closed. I think the ETSU vote for football was either hijacked or they should have used some other type of voting than go to this web site and vote. Also, Colts 34 Saints 14.
  9. Okay, I guess you missed the line where I stated it was still one of the bad things in American's history and that I disagreed with it? How can you say they need to screen the summer teachers, which are the same as the regular semester teachers, when you give no proof that the number is wrong? Yes, Bucdaddio we are very smart people . I agree about this is football and the flag has nothing to do with it. If you've ever seen the King of the Hill episode where the cheer leaders attacks the teams background with different cheers and stuff, you will realize that a Rebel flag is nothing but a grain of sand on the beach.
  10. Okay, there is something that makes me think you are posting this to use our comments in some type of research paper of the origins of the Rebel flag. Anyways, this is what I think about the whole Rebel flag issues. Some people view the Rebel flag as something that symbolizes the days of slavery in the South. Yes, I will admit this is the flag the Southern troops fought for during the times of the Civil War. Here is a little history for you and your image of a flag that symbolizes racism and slavery. During the times of slavery in the South, before the Civil War, the people that owned slaves was not as many as one may think. These numbers are coming from something I learned in a summer history class, so they may be off a little bit. Only 25% of ALL Southern people owned slaves. When I say 25%, I mean they owned at least 1 slave and not the 5 families of slaves that some people imagine during the time of slavery. I believe it was only 5% that had 5 or more slaves. So now you can see, slavery was not as popular as people think. I'll admit it, until I heard my professor tell me this I had the idea that each plantation owner had 50 slaves working on his 2,000 acre farm. This was wrong though. If the people that had this idea of the Rebel flag symbolizing slavery knew this, maybe they would think twice about their opinions. Before I move on, don't get me wrong...I do think slavery in the days before the Civil War was something that all of America should frown upon. Now, on the other side. This is the way I view the Rebel flag. I see the flag as a statement that shows how the South went from the part of the country that was only good for the plants and meat that they produced to a place that has made a economy of its own with industry. During the days of the rail road and Rockefeller monopolizing all of the economy, the South had very little to keep its economy in par with the North??™s. Once the taxes became to high for the average farmer to support his family, a change was about to happen. This is when the South started to gain knowledge in the industrial world and produce secondary products from their plants they would harvest. This era was called the "New South". So this could be the advantage point other people take on viewing the Rebel flag. In summary, I think it all depends of how well somebody knows the facts about the South. On another note, Channel 11 News did a story a few weeks ago when the race was at Bristol. It was on a older Black man (around 60) that was supporting the Rebel flag and wearing it proudly at the race track and around the camping areas. He says the Rebel flag is all about the pride one has about the part of America they live in...nothing more, nothing less. So, here is are my reasons for and other people reason on viewing the flag they way you want.
  11. How has G'ville improved in the last 2 years? I know 2 years ago they had that amazing running back (Gash?) and great line up of linebackers. I guess what I'm trying to say, what have they got to replace him? Or have they just tied up all the loose ends they have had the pass few years and are strong as an overall team?
  12. To whom was talking about the O-line not making a difference when the running back makes a 50 yard run....you are clueless when it comes to the rules of a lineman. So here, I will make my own list of the O-line rules: 1) If you don't hit somebody, you took the play off. 2) If you aren't hitting somebody when the whistle has blown, you took the play off. 3) If you aren't the first one to jump up and do a "belly thud" with the running back in the end zone, you took the play off. 4) If you aren't dirty on the front side and clean on the back side, you were slacking the entire game. Now, if you can understand these concepts of what a line man does during the game....you can see that even 50 yards down the field, the line man is keeping somebody off of his running back. Yes, HIS running back. I'm going to assume that you are a male cheerleader or a safety. I haven't seen either of the teams in action this year, so I can't make a logical pick on who will win. Since I was a Boone boy, I'm going to pick Boone 32 G'ville 14.
  13. Awsome website. I was looking at my senior year and we were only held to single digit points once, and that was by South. I never knew that until now. Makes you feel good since I blocked for most of those points scored.
  14. "You know...there was talk last year that Brad was gonna transfer to Boone'. I'm sure glad he didn't go. I think he probably is also. Brad, if you are on here know this...we love you too man." This is something that bothers me alot. Some players will go to different schools if they don't get the playing time they want, or they think they will have a better chance of playing in college somewhere else. Even though the school they change to is not in their district, they will move or figure out a way to get there. They should stay at their school and work as hard as possible to get the position they want. Yes it may save them money in the long run if they got a football scholarship, but that is going to happen about 2% of the time.
  15. They are just trying to make him look big in stats. He has good enough stats not to stay in when the game is a blow out. To me that just shows favortism from a Coach by not letting the younger guys go in when it is an obvious win.
