  1. Ricardo Patton didn't land at Central because of it's "academic" prowess. Just saying.
  2. Brighton lost their all everything receiver.
  3. I am partial beacause he is a long-time close friend, But nothing personifies High School Football like Mark Healy in the PA Booth at Millington Central High School.
  4. The Millington at Houston Scrimmage has been moved to next Tuesday at 630pm. Go Trojans!
  5. Look for Antonio Webber to have a BREAKOUT year at RB for the Trojans. He averaged well over 9 yards per carry over the last 3 years playing behind Roland Genesy who is now competing for the starting RB job as a true freshman at UT Martin. Alot of D-1 teams missed the boat on Genesy. I don't think that they will do the same with Weber. At 5'11", He is over 200pds and runs a sub 4.5 40 yard dash. On defense, the Trojans will be lead by 6'1" 190pd S/LB George Odum. Odum has lead the Trojans in tackles in each of the last two years and has been drawing a ton of d-1 attention since his eye popping 40 yard dash times this spring. He consistantly ran 4.3 40 times all spring. The Necomer of the year for the Trojans could be a Senior. 6'4" 190pd SR WR really stood out this spring with athleticism and soft hands. Looking forward to getting it all started. Week 1 vs Kirby will be here before we know it. GO TROJANS!
  6. Can someone post his list of Contenders. Would love to see it.
  7. With Football Season about 1 month away, What's your thoughts on 14-AAA this year? Does the winner of this league have a shot at the other region? 1. Millington 1. Arlington 3. Cordova 4. Craigmont 5. Bolton 6. Bartlett Too early to tell how the Millington vs Arlington game is going to go this year. Millington looks to be extremely explosive this year as they switch to the Spread Offense. But will they be able to limit the turnovers against a good opponent. (Arlington). Time will tell! Can't wait for it all to get started!! Go Trojans!!
  8. I would agree about UC. It is going to be really difficult to single A schools to match them athletically .
  9. Told ya. I have seen a ton or basketball in my time and Hubbs has the attribute that all the special ones have. That's the ability to let the game to come to them. I had the opportunity to be a part of the program with two such players. Back in the early 90's, I was a part of the Boys program at Millington and saw the same attribute in Tony Dumas who went on to be a lottery pick with the Dallas Mavericks. Fast foward nearly 20 years later and as part of the Girls program I saw this same attribute in Jasmine Newsome. Newsome was the Ovc player of the year as a sophomore after scoring over 20 pts a game. She will no doubt get paid to play the game someday.
  10. The winds of change have blown through Mooney Boswell Field this spring, As Millington has joined the masses and switched from the winged t offense to the Spread. Defending their league crown will hinge on how quickly this group of Trojans learns the new offense. With all of that being said, It looks to be a two horse race for the district crown between Millington and Arlington with a good chance that both teams could be undefeated when they match up late in the year.
  11. Madison had two nice post players and the little guard was tough for us to match up with. She hit three of four threes and did a really good job as a facilitator as well. She is limited athletically but has plenty of moxy. For those of you who attended the camp, Who did you think was the best individual players are the camp? In no particular order, I would included the PG from Creekwood, Our Post Player (Millington), The Point Forward from Union City, the PG from Bolivar Central, and PF from Madison.
  12. Union City looked to be about as good a team as there was up there this year. Their "Big" Guard is a d-1 prospect for sure. Very impressed with the job the HC has done. They have come a million miles since last year. The Madison team out of the Jackson area executed better than anyone that I saw. It seemed game in and game out they were on their "A" game more often than anyone else. I would love to see more Memphis area schools join us (Millington,) at the camp next year. The contrast in styles is what makes this camp so appealing to our staff.
  13. Stan Gatlin would be a name from the Memphis area. He is a young coach with an impressive record having led Millington to the state championship game a couple of Yearsback. He just finished his first year at Southwind where he led them to the most wins in school history.
  14. Union City was very impressive this week at the UTMartin team camp. They were a very physical group that has come a long way in a year. Another team that stood out was Madison Magnet School. They seemed to be on their "A" game for the entire week and had a nice mix of both the inside and outside.
  15. As I am an assistant Girls basketball coach in the Memphis area, I see a ton of boys games and players. Hubbs is better any of the Memphis players. ( king, Johnson , Williams, nichols, etc) the way that he lets the game come To him reminds me of a young Ron mercer when he was at Goodpasture way back when. He's a cant miss at a high major program in my humble opinion.
  16. Excited about the Team Camp this week! Who else is going to be there? If you are going to be there and want to pick up an extra game. (varsity of jv) let me know. We want to get in as many games as we can in the three days there. So far, the only two schools from Shelby county that I know will be there are us (Millington) and Bolton. Is there any others? Go Lady Trojans!
  17. The front court of Tiara Cakdwell (6'2") and Treasure Redding (6'3") will both be signing d-1 schollys this year. Both are great students and have huge athletic upside. Tiara has more of a proven track record. (15pts 11 Rebs) as a junior while Treasure has an intriguing skill set for a girl her size. Nice shooting touch out to the 3pt range, excellent basketball iq, and very good passer. Can't wait to help them get better this summer. June is a big month with 2 team camps and some practice sprinkled in there as well.
  18. The Rumor in District 14aaa is that Sam Craft will indeed play football at Olive Branch next year, then move back into Memphis and play basketball for State title contender Southwind. Those of you who are unfamilar with Craft, He lead his Basketball team to a State Title as a sophmore. Incredible team leader that has the knack for making the clutch play both on the hardwood and the gridiron. He is fun to watch.
  19. After Falling 66-50 to Cordova tonight to drop to 0-3 in the league, The Trojans have proven they are not quite ready for prime time. With games against Craigmont and Bartlett coming up next week, there is a Great chance that they will be 0-5 in the league at the midway point in league play. Going to be very hard for them to make any noise in the league digging a hole that big.
  20. Looks like Arlington, Bartlett, Craigmont, and Millington are in a 4 horse raise for the top spot. Would not be surprise to see a team with 3 or 4 league losses win the title. I feel as though it is that even. Craigmont is the defending state champion, so they get my vote right now.
  21. For the 2nd time in less than a month, The Trojans upset the Saints. Trailing by 9 at the end of the 3rd, The Trojans rallied for a 61-59 victory on a bucket by sophmore guard Jordan Browning. He scored all 10 of points in the fourth quarter. Junior Small Forward Elpaso Johnson paced the Trojans with 21pts. University of Memphis Head Coach Josh Pastner was in attendance. He was there to watch Briarcrest PF Austin Nichols who is widely regarded one of the top 50 players in the Nation in the Junior class. At 6'8" Nichols is an intriguing prospect because of his ability to step away from the basketball and hit the perimeter shot. Huge win for the Trojans who now improve to 12-4 as they head into district play. Should be a fun night at Arlington on Friday as the Trojans visit the Tigers. The two teams played in a non district game over the holidays with the Trojans winning in overtime.
  22. Millington won the first matchup in an upset last month.... What happens tonight?
