  1. ddp: Don't know if this helps any, but a few weeks ago I was told that Steve Jones, the coach from CAK, was going to put together a Fall League to play at CAK. I haven't heard anything from him, but I may call him later today and get back to you. I'm not sure whether we would have enough players to play in it, but I might could get you some names of teams/coaches that you could contact to see if they could use another player. Hope things are going well for you at RCHS, ---rSquared

    Oakdale Football

tigersfan: Oakdale's staff this season consists of Head Coach Benny Collins---a former Eagle All-State lineman---, assistant William Childers from Grundy Co., assistant Michael Gilbert, and assistant Rick Colston. As you probably know, former head coach Travis Tapp has gone to Harriman as offensive coordinator, and former assistant John Daugherty has gone to Rockwood as an assistant. ---rSquared
  3. I bought a T-shirt yesterday, but I would love to see a CoachT.com polo/coaching style shirt made available, too! Others interested please let coacht know. ---rSquared
  4. Coach Parks: We (Coalfield) are kicking around the idea of having a tournament early next season since we now have lights on our field, but regardless of whether or not we host a tournament, we would be interested in playing a couple of regular season games. This past season was the first year that my wife and I coached this team, but I believe Coalfield has played Campbell Co. in the past. If you are interested, please email me at roarkr14@yahoo.com Thanks, Rowland ---rSquared
  5. crazed: You've got YOUR jock strap wound a little too tight if you are serious about that score! This isn't going to be a 35-6 game---no way, no how. Since coming to Morgan Co. almost ten years ago, I've seen several great Coalfield vs. Wartburg battles---even been on the sidelines for a couple of them. This Friday night's will be the first I'll have missed (gotta work ) and that's a shame because this one may be as good a battle as we've seen in a while. I'll take Coalfield on the road by a single point: Jackets 28 Bulldogs 27 ---rSquared

  7. I attended a coaches clinic in Nashville a few years ago that was sponsored by Baden. A great clinic with some outstanding speakers/coaches---one of which was Bobby Knight. I came away from the clinic assured of two things. One, Coach Knight probably knows his basketball but didn't seem to be a very effective speaker. About all he wanted to do was tell entertaining stories and use the phrase "God D____it" in every other sentence. Some coaches got up and left the room while he was still speaking. Two, I would much rather any kid of mine play for someone like Coach Don Meyer, Coach of David Lipscomb at that time, who was one of the other speakers. He demonstrated and communicated a far better understanding of the 'X' and 'O' intricacies of the game while keeping his speech clean and holding the interests of his audience much longer than Knight had. ---rSquared

    KingB:???

Thanks for the info, kingB. This seems to be the year to leave Morgan County for work in another school system. I'll really miss John and Travis at Oakdale and I'm sure their players are crushed. They are two very popular coaches! ---rSquared

Brian: I just got a curious reply to an email that I sent Coach Snow at Oakdale. I had emailed to ask about the teaching positions vacant for the asst. coach (Daugherty's former) position. His reply mentioned that he was looking for someone to fill TAPP and Daugherty's shoes---a social studies or science teacher? I shot him back a reply inquiring if TAPP too, was leaving, but he hasn't answered yet. Just thought you may know already if Travis Tapp is leaving Oakdale for another school???? ---rSquared
  11. The Morgan County Softball All-Stars battled a talent-laden Coalfield Alumni team (which consisted of two current high school baseball players and two former Coalfield baseball greats due to a lack of female alumni players) to a 9-9 tie after seven innings. Coalfield freshman Amanda Pennington, who garnered the All-Star game's MVP award, led the Stars with a pair of hits and two rbi's and scored the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out hit off the bat of Wartburg's Brittany Williams. Coalfield's Maressa Sexton and Sunbright's Kimberly Jones split the pitching duties on the mound for the All-Star team, while former Coalfield players Kelly Brooks and Joni Wilson Armes both worked "on the hill" for the "over-the-hill" squad. (wink) A big thank you to the Morgan County News and sponsors for continuing to support these All-Star games for the athletes and fans of Morgan County, and thanks to Sports Editor Brian Langley (kingB here on coacht.com) for doing whatever it takes to make these games happen---including organizing, umpiring, catching, etc. Thanks also to the Coalfield Lions Club for their willingness to work their weekend tournament schedule around the games this year! ---rSquared [Edited by rSquared on 6/2/02 12:20P]
  12. Yes, B., BigPapaRo (rSquared) and LilMamaRo will be there indeed. I'll only be staying for the softball game, however, because I have to work from 2-11 Sat. Glad you and Dad can make it, DDP. Lookin' forward to it! We plan to call our Coalfield gals tomorrow and Friday to remind them of the game, KingB. See ya, ---rSquared
