  1. You didn't mention it, so I want to ask. Did either of the two players get carded? I thought throwing a punch, even in retaliation, was a carding offense, usually a red card.
  2. Don C! Thought you retired!!!! I can't help it. I'm still reading 95% of the posts, but I'm mostly just sitting on the sidelines.
  3. Wow, I can't say for their girls' soccer squad, but I would be AMAZED if their guys didn't win it all this year. I would imagine the same for most of their sports. Who is their biggest competition in D-2 A? USN? For girl's soccer, this move might move them "up", but I don't see that change to D2-A moving them all the way to the top. What I saw of them last year left a lot of room for improvement, and with teams like FRA also moving into D2-A, I don't see them jumping all the way to the top. Other D2-A teams are a bunch in Memphis, plus USJ and JCS from Jackson.
  4. What does the Heat Index monitor do, and what are the guidlines that the coaches have to follow?
  5. I saw Franklin and Livingston Academy. I don't know if they are going to have just one large group, or will split teams up into Two or more groups.
  6. Water Dog, the Murfreesboro team won nationals at the D2 level. The list you reference is for the national champions at the D1 level...
  7. Two more to add: Tayler Shelby, Baylor School, ERSA Express 91, UTC Taylor Davidson, Baylor School, formerly with ERSA Express 91, UTC
  8. Ok, I'll be the first to admit that my opinion is based more on reputation of the team/school rather that some inside track on what is coming up from middle school. If SD is stronger, than I think, I'll eat some crow later. Coniglio, of course I still have the picture/magazine.
  9. I was reported this past spring that some D1 schools in the Memphis area flirted with the idea of possibly going D2. Nothing same of it though.
  10. 1. Baylor - agree 2. ND - agree 3. CCS - think they will be stronger than you think 4. GPS - Agree 5. SD - Will have some holes to replace with Clair and Kelsey gone 6. Cleveland - strong, but I guess I haven't drank enough of their cool-aid to place them any higher 7. Silverdale - strong and getting stronger 8. Boyd -- my dark horse pick 9. Signal Mountain - I may be wrong, but I think they are one more year out from move up to top 5, thought I think they will get some quality wins this season 10. Ooltewah/Hixson/McMinn -- no idea who else to place here
  11. the 32 teams in AAA and A/AA that advance to sections face single elimination from sectionals forward. The only double elimination ocurrs before that point, with Districts and Regionals. If a team advances to the district or regional finals, they will advance to the next level whether or not they win that final game. Some might not like it, but it helps minimize a weak team from advancing too far just becase they are the least weak team in the district or region.
  12. I don't have a dog it in this hunt, but FRA has traditionally been a much stronger team than either JCS or USJ. If history repeats itself, I suspect FRA will do will in D2-A. It will be interesting to see how they match up against ECS or whoever is the strongest from the west....
  13. It is certainly possible. I'm curious if the Memphis schools that have done so well in the D2-A (Small school) and how they might handle FRA, JCS and USJ, new to that division.
  14. Not this season, but last season, Tennessee did have 3 teams in the 91 girls R3-Central league. Arkansas is in this league, but sent no one, and TN applied for three teams, Stones River, Brentwood (may be some other Nashville team), and Express. All three teams were accepted in the the Premier League, and played in it that season. Why Tennessee didn't submit 3 teams to play in the RPL this past season is beyond me as in the U18G, Mississippii had no one, and neither did Arkansas. As far as State goes, the only team that advances to represent the state is the State Champion, which this year in U18G was Stones River. Express did not advance to regionals due to the play at State. Express qualified for regionals by being the highest ranked team based on Regional play that did not also win their State. The Alabama State champion officially won RPL, but since they also won the Alabama State Championship, they advance to Regionals that way. Same for Stones River, that came in second in RPL, but won Tennessee and advanced that way. That left the third place RPL team, Express, to go as the RPL representative. If this wasn't the last year, Stones River would qualify for RPL, and the Lobos should be the 2nd team to qualify for next year.
  15. I just realized that your said UTC. She'll be off to Tennessee Tech in the fall.
  16. Kemesha Woodfine, a boarding student at Baylor from New York, ERSA Express 91, Quinnipiac University (Hamden, CT)
  17. Warning, be careful who you might run into at the Zaxby's in the 'Boro ...
  18. Yes, and no. I can agree with your basic connection between the two, but the big difference I see is that for coaching, it is a profession, rather than just a 4 or 5 year journey. Many coaches would want to reach to the highest level they could, though I would imagine for them, family considerations may become a factor down the road. Also, look those of us in the business world, there is a value to having a job you enjoy (and not being just about the money).
  19. Many others have already responded with most I would want to say. I'll add this. Not everbody goes to college with the same goals, desires, etc. For a player of a certain ability, they have many choices that might range from (a) riding the bench at a top program, ( ocassional playing time at a mid-level program, © and solid playing time at a lower-level program.... (you get the idea). Since 98%+ of all women's soccer players in college will not play professionally after college, how and who and where they choose to play might have nothing to do with playing time, and everything to do with the school, it's academic programs, etc. There will always be players whose actual performance in college far exceeds their initial scouting report, and those that disappoint. Good luck to all the Tennessee players in their school choices. I hope they find what they are looking for when the picked that particular school. If they don't find it, I hope they switch programs, and find it elsewhere.
  20. Disasgtergirl is only a junior, so hasn't had to make her choice yet. As far as the general go/stay UTC/No-UTC Do it for the Team/Recruiting Questions 1. $$$, especially in this economy, is a factor. 2. Going away to camp, versus doing something local may go a long way toward building "team". If I have any criticism of UTC, for Notre Dame it's too close for us, as our players don't do the residential side. 3. I think going with the team should be about the team, and if there is any looking/recruiting going on, that's a bonus. Having said that, you can/should consider going to a school's camp as a solo if you really want to consider going there and have the talent level to play at that school, but haven't had the opportunity to get in front of their coaches. Amy Porter (Bearden) is a prime example of this. She wanted to play for LSU, so she went to their camp the summer before her senior year. I don't know that if was the only factor/exposure, but it is my understanding that being in front of the LSU coaching staff for a week at camp made all the difference for her.
  21. Probably. We were there. Was it VERY cold that day?
  22. My daughter attended Lee's camp two summers ago. I have nothing but good things to say about the camp and the value for the money spent....
  23. I'll be there. I'll have my two little ones with me -- a 5-year old red-head and his 4-year old little brother.
