  1. You are referring to Ryan Thornton and he had a great day. Hope Ryan can finish strong tomorrow...has signed with Vanderbilt to play golf next year. The Baylor girls had a very strong day.....in the lead by 8 strokes!
  2. Big G, I usually agree with most that you say but I did not see anything at all out of line about the person that said their team had won 7 in a row. That is a great achievement and while it might be considered bragging by some....does bragging warrant stopping a thread? I guess we have so many types on personalities on this board....without alittle color or bragging....these boards could be boring I suppose. There has certainly been alot worse on these boards. I thought it was totally innocent and just a fact stated. I guess everyone sees things differently though.
  3. That is a great question. I am somewhat surprised that Signal Mountain played such a tough schedule their first year of soccer. I think we all realize that it will not take long for SM to field a very competitive team. But I think I prefer the way Silverdale did it. Since both schools have underclassman and are building for the future....this has to make Silverdale's confidence very high for next year. But on the other hand Signal Mountain knows what the tough schedule looks like. Silverdale will probably get a good look at it soon if they play Notre Dame in the postseason. I think Signal Mountain kind of sent out a statement that they will schedule a very tough schedule out of the shoot. I guess we will have to waite and see which route Silverdale goes in the next year or two. They both went about it in a different way no doubt about it. Curious to see how others see this. Good discussion MVM.
  4. MVM, you won't get grief from me. I agree with so much of what you said. I was just responding because I thought they were trying to find a way in the future to help them be given more respect in the Chattanooga soccer community. I do not mean they don't have respect...because they do. To do what they have done in a short time is great. But I thought they were trying to find a way to move up in the rankings and gain "that type" of respect. You are right that Baylor and ND do reload and continually stay at the top. I was not saying it because it is easy to say....I was just trying to give an outsiders opinion that if they want to take it to the next step to schedule one or two top area teams to beef up the schedule. A point that I do agree with you on is this. You mentioned you wish your team had scheduled a tougher schedule this year to challenge the team and maybe keep boredom down. It is not fun to have the ability to run up a score and use everyone on the bench. Last year the Baylor boy's soccer team could not get enough teams to schedule them and the coach's had a hard time filling the schedule. We had to schedule a couple of North GA teams that just don't put priority on soccer that we do. One of the teams is coached by a Baylor graduate and it was agreed before the game that we would only score so many goals and play everyone, JV, etc. This happened a couple of times. While we did not run the score up and did not humiliate the other teams.....our guys were bored, played almost O time and you get the picture. Sounds like a similar situation to yours. There is not a great answer for any of this. I hope I did not seem to make it sound easy....because I know it isn't. I just thought they want in the future a way to maybe get noticed more in Chattanooga. And I still feel if that is the case....you have to throw in a couple of annual Chattanooga powers. Again, congratulations to Silverdale for a very impressive 2nd year in soccer.
  5. It is just great what Siverdale has done in such a short time. But I too would have to take issue with the teams you mentioned as being good year in and year out. While they made have had a good year before in soccer they are not thought of in Chattanooga soccer as tough competition. No disrespect but that is just how it is. I do think that if you would schedule one or two of the traditional soccer powers that you mentioned that would help to legitimize the program. A good soccer tournament would help also. But it is great what Silverdale has done this year in soccer.
  6. You sumed it up great. Their are players and families on both teams that are great friends and it is tough to play each other because everyone wants to win....but in the end it stays classy.
  7. Baylor dominated play and had alot of shots...but the GPS keeper did a great job in the first half....whole game for that fact. Some shots we just missed on our on. But in this big of a game for both teams...both played their hearts out. The lone goal was an unassisted goal by Baylor freshman McKenzie Stokes. Had alot of other opportunities but sometimes they just don't go in....and their goalie did a great job. It was not Baylor's best game but the goal was all that was needed and put's them in the driver's seat for home field advantage.
  8. Great tread MVM. Playing as many ranked teams will only help everyone in postseason. Like you said, the rankings will change and it will be interesting to see the updates. Thanks.
  9. Bruisermom you are so right. When parents and players know each other so well....it is always more exciting and stressful at the same time. GPS has a long and successful soccer tradition and I know that the Bruisers will go all out tomorrow night. Thank you for your kind comments about the Baylor team. It has been a great year so far but with post season coming up there can be no let down....everyone is gunning for you. I look forward to another great Baylor/GPS game tomorrow night. Baylor 2 GPS 0
  10. Congratulations to Sequatchie on a huge win. The first one in any program is the hardest. This is something you can build on. Way to go!
  11. I have not heard anything about it....but that does not mean it isn't true. I guess we will have to wait until game time. Hopefully nothing to it. Mathew will be a great QB but what a pressure filled game to put a freshman into without having started a varsity game. If anyone from Baylor knows for sure if this is for real or a rumor please respond?
  12. I have never seen this situation with the red card in a JV game and how it affects a varsity game....so I can't add anything on the outcome here. I know rules are rules but I really hope in this case it does not carry over to senior night. That is such a special night for seniors and with what you said DonCChatt about her injury last year...that would be a tough blow for her. I will read this thread for the outcome and sincerely hope for the best for the Irish player.
  13. I hope you are right. Last year we had a soccer player, Andrew Roden, that consistantly put the football in the endzone on kickoffs. He did not do field goals for some reason but on the one he did he kicked about a 40 yarder. This year we have another soccer player doing kickoffs and field goals. Tanner Taylor. He did them last year except for the one Roden kicked. Tanner has over a 40 yarder already this year.....soccer players kicking....the way to go. As for the reason local teams will not play Baylor or McCallie.....I don't really know for sure. As for Baylor in recent years Boyd played us for I think four years but droped us from their schedule. East Ridge played us for two years but only if they could play both games at East Ridge. So we played both at ER. Central played us for two years to help celebrate a Central aniversary....but both played at Finley. The Red Bank coach openly came out in the paper last year that it would not help them to play Baylor because of the closeness of the schools. I really did not get that one because Red Bank is such a football tradition. But he seemed to think they had nothing to gain and only could lose in that situation. As for McCallie....at least Tyner has stepped up and continually plays them. They would have to fill you in on the rest. MVM, so I will leave it with you. You are a Soddy Daisy guy.....the reason local teams will not play Baylor is McCallie is....?
  14. Thank you for saying that! It would be so nice if Chattanooga teams would agree to play both schools so they don't have to go out of state as often as they do. I know that Tyner steps up to play McCallie and there has been a team or two play Baylor for a year or two just to drop them. I agree completely that if the Chattanooga community feels so strongly about the "right" to see the game.....then push your high school to play both schools as well.
  15. Congratulations Taylor....what an honor. Also, congratulations to Baylor, Collierville and Brentwood!
  16. MVM I was at that preseason game and was impressed by the Soddy Daisy team. I have not seen CCS yet but they are having a great year but have not played as hard a schedule yet as Soddy Daisy it seems. This is a really hard game to pick....but here it goes. Soddy Daisy 2 CCS 1
  17. This shapes up to be a great game. I believe this game will be decided by a goal late in the game. Bearden 3 Notre Dame 2
  18. Mr. Reed, I see that you probably will not post again. You may never read these posts again....and I certainly would not blame you. I am a Baylor supporter that happens to read about other Chattanooga area teams as well. When Brady left Baylor (I think after his freshman year) we all knew that Baylor's loss would be Ooltewah's gain. What a class act he is....both as a person and an athlete! I don't know what would ever make adults come on boards and bash kids. I suppose it is easy to do when you hide behind a name. The over the top fans can ruin the reputation of a school's program. But it certainly looks like the Owl's have some classy supporters on Coach T also. I wish Brady was still a Red Raider and on their sidelines on Friday nights. But since he isn't.....I will be rooting for him to all the way for the Owls! Go Baylor and Go Brady!
  19. Baylor JV has had 4 games to date. The results are as follows: 8/27 Baylor vs Siegel.... 0-0 tie 9/9 Baylor vs Notre Dame....Baylor wins 4-1 9?15 Baylor vs Chattanooga Patriots.....Baylor wins 8-0 9/23 Baylor vs Notre Dame.....Baylor wins 1-0 Baylor JV is 3-0-1 and plays GPS next on Oct 7th.
  20. What caused the East Ridge suspensions?
  21. What a great picture. And after such a hard fought game there friendship really shows through. Impressive.
  22. In a heartbreaker for Baylor.....in 2 OTS...Knox Catholic 21....Baylor 20
  23. Halftime score: Baylor 10 Knox Catholic 7
  24. So that was the big mystery? If so, I too expect good games on Saturday and Sunday.
