  1. I know and am friends with quite a few DB alumni both past and present both black and white. And back in that day it was a big laugh on Saturdays to rehash what Lamon had done the night before. A DB alumni told me the morning after the game in question that it was his middle finger that was erected and that is what got him penalized. As well there was another story of a TD catch down the home sideline as he burnt the DB and after he crossed the goal line he mimed an autograph on the football and presented it to the defender. I personally thought that both those stories were awesome. He was the shiz...and a business man also. And I will defend DB in that historically they have had tough officiating at home over the years. But when a lineman tackles you and rolls back and forth over you so that you can't get up then I believe in high school there will be a penalty assessed. And I know ;these tactics are taught at the college level. And I know that the linemen have a field day with it. And I know it is to level the field with their ability vs. the D lines ability in one freeing and the other capturing the college level RB. But, I have never seen this tactic used so blatantly in high school and previously this (or any other for that matter) season until last Friday night. It was deliberate, It was off the chart. It was a definate penalty. And it occured on every play...even after a penalty had been assessed. There was no let up. That proves it was instructed by the coach. Remember, I have not seen it thus far this season from DB. You can cry all you want about home cooking or catered cooking or the TSSAA out to get you...whatever you want to make up to make it sound good, but the fact remains....it was dirty pool. You beat us fair and square so my hat is off. But each and every one of those holding calls were legitimate. So quite crying and let's see if you use the same tactic against Bristol. Because all eyes will be watching.
  2. Hilts, my understanding was that Haynie alluded to the players to stay off the internet and their parents as well in order not to give away any changes made in practice. Which my understanding was that we were going to run the Wishbone. That did not materialize but I stayed off the boards just the same in respect to give the Rebels all the surprise factor they needed. Turns out the only surprise factor they brought was a desire to play DB to the "Hilt".
  3. You are in the know about the "two" players who are contemplating attending DB. And they are athletes. But I am not speaking of students transfering to either school. Instead, I am merely alluding to the long term plan by the city and what will happen in the future. It would be rediculous of the city to annex all around South and then leave the high school in the county meanwhile building on to DB in order to house an increased census. Common sence would dictate that the city would see it as economically good management to absorb South High School intact with it's students and send a portion of it's city students to South instead of spending money on DB. But, the city and DB administration has squandered copious amounts of money in the mis-management of additions to DB thus far so I would not be suprised to see them blunder once more. But my understanding is the long term plan is as I speak. To be seen.
  4. To keep football the main topic of discussion, I was impressed with Seabolt. He is an expert at hiding the ball as well as making split second decisions of what to do with the ball. He may have had a bad night throwing the ball but I think that is only because GC doesn't let him do it enough. In my opinion he should be throwing the ball much more. Between Cannon and Steele he really doesn't need more recievers even though when CS ran an electric route straight up the gut into the endzone it surprised all except the South defender who read the play. I don't see that play getting read very often. It was such an explosion of speed that he was where he was supposed to be in record time and the pass was on the money. South just defended it good. So that makes 3 good recievers. That's not counting the TE and Swafford. That gives DB as powerful a passing game as anyone. They just need to use it more. The time will come when DB's running game will be tested. I would like to think they have another avenue to success. Just need to use it more.
  5. Bud, your rap is weak. Your voice ranks with the wreak of snobbery. Your analysis is as opus as Corwalis' bounding defeat. You do not have the ability to respect anything other than your shadow. Leave my son out of this. My son, in his youth, is a fledgling officer compared to you who is nothing but a bitter sargent who was passed over many times for promotion and left to retire from an aimless career as a low paid yes man. Your Indians were superior last night. I have given your team their due but you look aim lessly stupid attempting to downgrade the Rebel community and all they stand for. I won't stoop to your level to tell you how I was treated last evening as I made my way to and from my vehicle as I was identified as a South faithful with my attire making it obvious as my chosen parking place forced me to walk against the flow of the Indian Nation. You are in fact a pathetic example of a sore wannabe competitor who could not stand toe to toe with a criple with amputated feet on crutches. Your conceit drools from your pores as the stench of your spoiled personality perspires form your sweat glands and drenches your borrowed royalty rags as you attempt to be a senator in a jesters court with nothing more than a quil minus its feathers from a long ago attempt at being someone. Only to sell yourself to mediocrety while hiding behind your Yankie Doodle mentality. ......Old times there are not forgotten.......as we stand in respect of our conquistador you spit on a fallen warrior in your lame attempt to pour salt in a wound. You my friend, are the classic example of why the Rebel Nation holds so much contempt for the disrespectful few of the Indian Nation. the Rebel Nation
  6. Sometimes the truth is hard to believe. But the truth is the truth. He is a friend and tells me his honest views. I definately admit that South got some free rides...most notably the delay of game calls that didn't happen. As far as Gate City we can't go back. But Knox West...well...one game at a time.
  7. One more thing I would like to add. I do feel as well that South should have had at least 3 delay of game calls. And this is the only thing I like about Science Hill's new field...and that is the play clock in both end zones.
  8. Art...this is mostly for you but all should know that both Souths punters are injured. So punting was a last resort. Heath is not a punter as you saw. Haynie had no choice but to go for it on 4th.
  9. Haynies wishes was for everyone to stay off the boards for this game. I tried to accomidate his wishes. A week of celebacy leaves alot of fighting to do. But, I will just let it go. I wanted to let my Rebels speak for themselves in this one. Jack, you obviously didn't make it to the game if you didn't see the holding. #72 and #57 were the two dirtiest linemen I have ever witnessed play high school ball tonight. I have watched DB play this season and I have never witnessed such dirty pool. You will see it in Division II and NAIA because those players by and large don't have a future. So it's anything goes...and the refs let it happen. In fact, if you don't play that way you won't make it. In Division I you have to learn to be smart about it. But what I saw tonight was two linemen grabbing jerseys and shoulderpads and slinging their opponent to the ground. The holding calls were legitimate. And I haven't seen them do this tactic in the other games I witnessed them play. GC must have told them all week long that they would win this game no matter what it took. It showed. That brand of dirty football will not be witnessed in this state the rest of the season. DB won the game because they are the better team. And CS's hits to Brent Hubbard were the hardest hits I have ever seen in high school football also. He read the play both times. Pretty aweome...not just the hit...but the read also. BUT...Hub got up both times without so much as a wimper...and came back in the game. Heath's mistake was throwing to a reciever. He didn't have time to find a reciever therefore he should have thrown to a spot...because the recievers were open all night. I was suprised we were able to run on you. It wasn't much but was enough to make it interesting. A DB dad told me this week that he looked forward to the addition of South players to the DB roster. He said that DB was in no way a #3 team in the state. He said that with what South could bring to the table added to DB's historic helping that it would then create a championship team every year. I didn't tell him that a South player will never play at DB but instead just the opposite...DB players will be playing at South. Once it becomes a city school. He confirmed that DB is packed to the gills with no room for more. Common sense rules here. That said, I am behind the Indians and I hope they get their secondary issues straightened out. I would like to see them go all the way. I don't think that DB played badly tonight except maybe the secondary...I just think South gave them the respect of coming to give them a game. I think it was good for them to have a bit of a test. I admired the respect CS gave his South opponents in his TV11 interview. Pretty classy spokesman. Hunter Jordan made a couple of bad play calls...Southers will well know which ones...but I felt Coach Haynie should be commended for the preparation job he put together. Especially considering what the outlook was at the beginning of the season. Plus...we are without two of our top skill players. I felt like GC didn't go to what South was giving him...the deep ball. Stacy Carter proved long ago that a couple of successful deep balls kills most any heart any team can bring to the table. #1 and #3 over and over will sooner or later produce success. I know, I know...it's not his style. I and I'm sure other Southers have a great deal of appreciation for the DB posters respectful words in regard to their teams performance against the Indians. As well, this will surely grow the Indians. I hope it grows both teams. You may not like my comments about your linemen but I feel quite sure many will back me up. As I said, I have seen DB play 3 times this season and have never seen this until tonight. I won't argue the point as I really don't have a need to fight over this game...simply because you were the better team. Rebel Nation
  10. Wonderful thread. Good to know I am not alone. Alot of great points here. Parents of young athletes need to read this. In school I was the athlete that didn't dedicate myself as I should. I had ability but I was not pushed and did not push myself. I was the product of a broken home and my single parent died when I was 15. After I bailed out of college and became a POS I found myself in the gutter one two many times. I picked myself up and became somebody by societies standards. But I swore I would not let my children endure the same failure. So I feel I pushed them...maybe a bit too hard. They were both championship (AAU Nationally Ranked) Martial Artists and black belted by age 9. That was only the beginning. My son was an All State RB and scholarshipped to a DII school. He felt he had failed by not making it to DI. He now studies medicine and is having the fun he missed from his childhood. He made his decisions and I reluctantly allowed him that privelege. My daughter is just as talented but is nearing burn out from having bad high school experiences with coaching. AAU is her last refuge. And she clings to that by a thread. They have to have a life! It's our responsibility as parents to made sure we don't take that away from them. It has to be fun for them. Some kids have much more focus than others. Some have the talent and no focus. Some have it all. I don't profess to have the answer but it is different with each child. So many things come into play. The quality and the lack of in the home life is just the beginning. One thing I am sure of is having great role models to look up to is tantamount to success. Coaches are everything! I was as good a coach as I could be but at some point in time Dad is just Dad. I am forever grateful to the great coaches they both have had over the years. On their part (the coaches), it is a labor of love but in my opinion the key to their wellbeing. College or no college they are better people for their accomplishments. So in that thought, it is a special individual with a special set of circumstances and a gift from above if they can see it through. But I don't look at the ones that don't make it as not success stories as well. They will be model citizens. At least we didn't teach them to be thugs and liabilities to society.
  11. UT won't persue Carmichael...but Florida will.
  12. I played against the '72 Vikings in a preseason scrimmage and got whacked...over...and over. Cap, they are a looker. But, they are now twice the team that South played. So that's what Michael Vick looked like in high school.
  13. I would like to say congratulations to the Greeneville football team. When South played Greeneville you were beatable. Now you have improved to the point of being a machine. I hope the best for you! You are in probably the weakest division now but it matters not. I feel you could give the best in any classification a run for the money. I feel DB is up there with the best this year and I feel the Greendevils could stay on the field with them. This is a team for the ages. The Greeneville fans should be proud. No need for your fans to be unruly...your team is speaking all that needs to be said loud and clear. The best of everything for these players going forward. And proud parents also. Enjoy your moment in history.
  14. Batman, I wish you would have named this thread something else in order to cover this topic completely. I am with the understanding that GC will only play Sophmores and Frosh. In my opinion, Juniors and Seniors have no place playing on a JV team under any circumstance. Much less starters. It should be a TSSAA ruling but it is not. All county schools are guilty of this...not just Central. Granted, South's coaches will concede defeat and put reserves in the game, but case in point is Tennessee High vs Greeneville. Carlos Howard was still running the ball late in the fourth quarter. And that would have been against Greeneviles emptied bench. If I'm not mistaken, South is playing newly benched Junior starters on JV. In my opinion this is wrong. JV should be Frosh and Sophmores with no exception. Period.
  15. Jack...c'mon now...we can watch Sanford & Son this week. We don't have to watch All In The Family every week.
  16. 1. Bristol - Better cohesion this season. 2. JC - Always talented, always a competitor. Always the top dog. 3. Volunteer - I actually disagree with this placement. But I will leave it there because South has alot to prove. Central doesn't have the horsepower. Boone could do it. But DB most likely will play back up. 4. DB - My last post about DB was to say they don't have a chance. However, my reasoning for that statement was due to the fact that they lost a premier guard and struggled through the season with what they had. Well, she is back. Briacha is back. She will be a senior but she is fast and has all the other tools to lead the floor for DB. This will inspire the team...and especially Julie who really didn't have a great year last season. Briacha will make them a contender. 5. South - This team could go either way. Mac will be Mac. But it will all depend on her support group. With Fletcher still recovering from a severed ACL from AAU it could be touch and go. 6. Boone - Boone may be scrappy but they will turn the tables on some of the elite. 7. Central - Maddie and Jackie are about all they have. To be seen. 8. Crockett - I'm unaware of what they bring to the table. Someone else will need to tell us what they have.
  17. My original question was, "Is this feature for Admin?" Someone should have simply said...yes.
  18. I think I have a solution CoachT. Iamoz showed up on my profile view today. Oddly enough my reputation was reduced today from 7 to 6. My suggestion to prevent posters from using this feature to negatively impact the boards is to program it to where a positive or negative reputation vote is logged and identifiable by the affected user as to whom made such a vote. This way it is made quantifiable. It puts responsibility on the poster attempting to rate the member. This should guarantee genuine responsibile votes. Because a member can go back and question the voter in question. And at least understand who said enemies or allies are.
  19. Anybody seen Otis? 'Guess he's just sleeping it off. Hey, maybe he got a job.
  20. I like that Crawdad...Coach Stubborn. Ha! I've read through all the posts and OMG you would think these people are Southers. Greeneville, in all their going-westwardlyness is going to underestimate the Vikings. Yeah, I said it. First off, I am proud that finally somebody from these here parts is going to bring it home. Go Greene Devils! But the Vikings will win this one. OK, go ahead and bring up the past...say I'm a Niswonger hater. Don't bother me. Fact is you people live with blinders on. BUT, you have one awesome football team this year. However, I thought the Vikings were rebuilding...oh contrar my friend. They are going to bring it. This is probably more important than their game with DB for bragging rights. I mean Greeneville has been a thorn in their side for about as long as they have been in South's. The Vikings have one weakness and that weakness is what I expect Niswonger High to exploit. Cap, bump and run would fix everything but hey...we ain't the DB coaches. Greeneville, with all their high brow fullback ability will throw the ball. And if they saw the Topper film, throw it a lot. One thing I noticed when South played Greeneville is that if you hit their backs in the first three steps after they get the ball then they are going down. But after three yards they will go another seven. That is the key for the Viking D line. The Viking backs are shifty and can change direction 2 quickly. And they have one back that sees the field. I didn't actually see a cutback but I saw some things. Going for Bristol is the ability to mix it up. Going against Greeneville is a history to cough it up. Going for Greeneville is their size. Going against Bristol is Coach Stubborn and his inability to utilize Downs correctly. Yes I'm going to the Castle. Yes I won't have to sit two miles from the field like last week in South Carolina...err...JC. No I won't need binoculars. No I won't have to listen to one of the most obnoxious announcers in NET...however the Viking anouncer is not far behind. I think I will start a thread on the best announcer. The kicking game will be crucial in this one. Now, I'll sit back and listen to the crybabies.
  21. The late 60's-early 70's was the heyday for NET athletics in general. MoEast Football 1969. Ketron, Football 1970-1974. Sullivan West Football 1974 Chris Morelock Georgia Tech, DB Track, 70-74 with Darwin Bond, Andre' Releford, Skip Brown, Sullivan Central Basketball with Dan Moody and crew, and of course Tennessee High football. Those are the ones that come to mind.
  22. I tried to rate a poster and I got a notification that I had reached my quota of ratings for the day. I have never used the function.can you explain this? As well, why does the number box to right of the plus and munus radio buttons not display the reputation of the logged in user? Is this feature not a workable feature yet? And in regard to the number of ratings per day, is there in fact a quota to how many ratings can be entered? If so what is this number? Or is this not a workable feature as well? It seems that these features are interesting but I can see how they could be abused. Is this why there is no explanation of how to use these features as you possibly don't want everyone having knowledge of how to use these them? I think a rating system could be very useful for all involved. Both negative and positive ratings. But at the same time it could be used for vengence and that would dampen it's effectiveness. Please allude.
