  1. Ridgeway as you ask should be better, the RECRUITING CLASS they have coming in looks to be solid. They are already exploiting the situation at White Station and have kids tranferring in from Mitchell, Fayette-Ware, and word on the street is that they are working hard to get the CBHS RB that transferred to Olive Branch ( who are by and far the best recruiters in the Shelby-Metro area some of the nonsense they pull of rivals Alabama and what they pulled with Albert Means. ) Yes, the P'diddy is up to his old tricks.
  2. It is official Joe Lee is leaving for a college DC job. His last day was last Wednesday (giving no notice.) He took a program that had gone 23-2-1 over the last 2 years and went 5-6 (including a Bolton forfeit.) Just goes to prove that not all college guys are better than high school coaches.
  3. If Jones went to the LSU camp, he got to visit the last 2 Mr. Football Kicker trophies, which belong to Josh Jasper(props to my boy), who now plays for LSU, all kidding aside Jones has a good chance.
  4. Walls is just one of many Memphis area players who have been RECRUITED to Olive Branch. Ryant Denton former Ridgeway QB is also there. They have also been actively pursuing other Memphis area players including Donterrio Poe also from Wooddale(who has reportedly transferred to Sheffield). Several others were actively pursued Including at least 2 others that were on a Murphy Fair preseason all-state team.
  5. He is more of a runner than Skinner, I don't know his name, but he transferred from Briarcrest last fall and had to play only JV last year. He can fly, runs a legit sub 4.4 forty, I don't know how he throw.
  6. 90 % of NFL players don't wear Riddell for nothing.
  7. Don't look past Kingsbury, they had several very athletic players at the Memphis Camp.
  8. As a coach I don't mind having a dead period, however the timing of and the 7 on 7 restrictions in June are inconvienent and can really hurt players who are late bloomers or played behind and exceptional player as a junior. Most big schools(colleges) have 7 on 7 tournaments in June in order to evaluate players. The opportunity that we have had in the past to showcase players to college coaches in a competative situation is now gone. While it is still there for surrounding states, The new dead period following the season is something that most of us were already doing anyway, so that is no big deal. The things that most coaches have a problem with is the proximity of the dead period to the start of practice. Players work hard all summer to get themselves in shape to start practice and then take a step back. the week after the dead period we could tell a drop-off in our conditioning. I work at a 5A school, we do not play 7 on 7 because most of our qbs play baseball and they have games at night. but we work it a couple of days a week during our workouts. Most coaches that I have talked to understand the week of the 4th, but we would rather have the rest of the dead period right after school is out, so that we don't take a step backwards in conditioning within a couple of weeks of the start of practice. Most of us have already change the way that we do preseason camp, not having 2 padded practices a day, but football is a tough, physical game when played correctly. With school seemingly opening earlier and earlier every yeara, the time to get yourself in shape and perfect all 3 phases of the game, just isn't there the way it was 20 or 25 years ago, which makes coming to camp in tip top shape of the utmost importance, which the timing of the dead period definitely hinders. To the parent who was fussing about getting your child to practice everyday, I'm sure you will be the first one tho the AD or principal's office to fuss about the who doesn't get your child a scholarship to the school of your choice.
  9. I am quite sure her fundamental skills improved dramatically as a result of playiing playstation!

    Mercy Rule

I know that this is a touchy subject with all. One of the things, that we used to do to help hold the score down was instead of calling simple plays for the 3rd and 4th teamers to run we called the most complicated things we had, thinking they could execute the base stuff and not the more complicated stuff. This also gave us something for them to get fussed at during film. I've been on both ends of this problem, and it is not enjoyable on either end. The problem lies in which is more embarrassing looking in the paper the next morning and seeing you lost 76-0 or having your opponent take a knee in the third quarter in front of your home fans. Personally, as long as it not the starters in the game, I think I would rather have the first if I had to choose. I do however think it the rule takes away from the integrity of the game. I do think that coaches need to do a better job controlling this.
  11. guys after the first 2 rounds when you should be down to all #1 seeds (hypothetically) the system is about as fair as it can be. It is based on even and odd years matching with even and odd regions and sections. If you went to the championship game 4 years in a row as the #1 seed from your region you would have 4 different scenarios in 4 years. 1. 1 year you would have 2 home games 2. 1 year you would hve 2 road games 3. 1 year you would play at home week 3 and away week 4 4. 1 year you would play away week 3 and at home week 4 It doesn't get much more fair than that. It is just a matter of being fortunate enough to hit the right year to get all the home games, or good enough to go 4 years in a row.
  12. While I would not come right out and tell a parent in those exact words, I agree with rapbwood. People think that coaches have a bias against a player because of his age, who his parents are, or some other reason, haven't been on the other side of the fence. By this I do not mean people haven't coached before, I mean you haven't done it where your livelyhood and career are on the line. Most of us work our backsides off to prepare for our season, we are not abour to intentionally going to play inferior talent for whatever reason. We don't make a great deal of money doing what we do, but we love what we do and would like to keep our jobs. So we are going to put the best players in our opinion on the field. I have played freshmen at the varsity level before, (I am a 5-A coach and the only freshmen I ever had ready to play at that level is competing for the starting running back job at Miami, We take into consideration a lot more things than people realize work ethic, loyalty to the program, mental and physical toughness. This is the kind of talk that turns a player against his teammates and coaches. If this is his thinking HE needs to go talk to his coach about the situation himself, as a young man he needs to learn to handle problems himself. If this is your idea don't poison the water against the coach and other players by your comments at home. Football coaches more than any other sport preach team, in our society, people are becoming more and more self centered, if you follow the NFL at all you see how many you players are putting themself in front of the team based on their actions. It is talk like this that begins that type of behavior. If your son feels strongly about this, I suggest he approach it from the angle of coach, what can I do to get better and earn more playing time. If it is approached with the attitude that it comes across in your post the coach will take it as questioning his integrity.
  13. no Covington plays White Station at 1:00 and St.George vs. BTW play at 10:00
  14. They play MUS in the Bridges Bowl
  15. they play Ridgeway the week after the Bridges Bowl. Maybe the Roadrunners will have started practice or workouts by then.
  16. Arlington High School is coming into region 7-5a, it will be the school's first season competing for the playoffs, also first year with a senior class.
  17. Ivory Watson OT Ridgeway needs to be on the list. 6'4" 315 4.95 40 is being actively recruited by most SEC, Big 12 and some Big 10, ACC and Big East schools.
  18. I'll take Jason Jones of Ridgeway.
  19. Pomeranz at Collierville will probably be drafted in the top 2-3 rounds. 6'4" about 200 lefty throwing in the low 90's
  20. White Station and Hamilton play on Thursday night.
  21. this season in the Ridgeway vs. Memphis Central, Central through a middle screen to the fullback, it was overthrown and bounced off of the centers back to the fullback after which he gained 9 yards. The umpire threw the flag for illegal touching, the referee not only waived off the flag telling the coach the qb didn't mean to hit the lineman, but allowed central to keep the yardage.
  22. I know the cbhs vs. ecs game was 31-21 at one point and MUS won 34-6
  23. just wait til the salary cap kicks in
  24. You have got to throw former CBHS coach Tom Nix into the discussion.
